No world cup for Ballack, he's out lol
its so sad! germany's chances are slimming down slightly.
Schweinsteiger is the new center attack, doesnt play wing anymore. I wouldnt put anyone else there on that team cept him. Sami Khedira steppin in as holder behind/next to Schweinsteiger.

heres my ideal lineup for them with their new formation this year 4-2-3-1

(Position) Name

(GK) Jorg Butt - LB Lahm, CB Westermann, CB Mertesacker, RB Boateng - DM Khedira, AM Schweinsteiger - LW Podolski, CF Ozil, RW Müller - S Klose

The loss of Ballack although crucial isnt as bad as people might think. This team, second only to id say Spain, prob has the best depth out of anyone in the cup in EVERY position, including their youngsters. Id be damned if i would blame a Germany exit on Ballack not being able to play. Championship contenders always have other options!! Deutschland VOR!!! So gehen die Deutschen!

I guess not having Ballack is not going to be that bad. I have no idea that Schweinsteiger was taking over central back.

Your ideal line up is pretty solid too. I don't quite agree with the formation though, I'm more of a 3-5-2 fan. I have this whole logic behind the formation that makes me believe that that is the ideal formation.

If the Germans & the Spaniards play like they did for the European Cup - we may have a repeat of the finals from 2008. Then again the Neds played (correct me if I'm wrong, my memory is a little fuzzy) fairly well during the European Cup as well, so they may bring it pretty hard. Personally, I am an Italian fan, so I'm obviously rooting for them - they have the most mature team, these guys have done this many times before which means they know what they are getting into, and its Cannavaro's last World Cup, and I think he needs to remind everyone why he is the world best defense-man and captain (in my biased opinion). Admitted that because they are much more mature than most of the teams competing for the World Cup this summer that many people like to believe that their stamina is shot compared to all the younger teams, which may be slightly true, but everyone does need to remember that these men are legends (we've got one of the best goal keepers (Buffon) and one of the best defense- man (like I said before) Cannavaro) and they're fighters - unlike the European Cup, where the lose of Cannavaro completely messed up the Italian's game, they're going to come back harder and stronger and prove that when they won in '06 with or without Zidan getting red carded they still would have kicked France. I strongly believe they will prove it again - they're a team that is open to learning from their mistakes and the European Cup is a prefect example in that. They messed up in so many ways in their first game (against the Neds), but they came back for the second game looked at their mistakes and improved on them, admitted that they still didn't play as well as I would have liked but still they still used the first game as a learning experience. Hopefully they will do the same for the World Cup.. .

yea much as i hate italy u can never write them off. but in regards to ur formation, no one in the world actually runs a 3 man set in the defense. thats jsut FIFA stuff that people do cuz well most people jsut play fifa and hold down turbo, and overload with attackers, and it works when ur not playing realistically. lol

in real life, no one runs a 3 back set as their line up, even when a defender is red carded, a midfielder is usually taken off, so that another defender can come in for the backline. only time people play with 3 backs is when theyre up on the opponent, and they can afford to sub in younger attackers or someone that wants to get playing time. even then, the holder in midfield will become less invovled in attack, and stay as a sweeper in front of his 3 backs..

having only 3 backs is suicide especially nowadays with such raw talent n speed in the midfield for almost every country. u cant deal with 2 wingers, and 2 forwards with only 3 backs. Italy are known for defense, their goals come late in games, and very methodically, they run 4 as well.

ive even seen weaker teams like Greece run 5 at the back here n there lol

the 4-2-3-1 is a variation of the 4-4-2, and its very suitable for confident teams like Germany and England who look to strike quick and who have reliable holders in center mid, and speed and ability to cross from the wing. it looks chaotic when u see it used at first in a match, but besides the 4-3-3, the 4-2-3-1 creates endless triangles for passing and freeing up attackers around the 18, usually leaving 2 people with a clear shot of goal at all times during an attack on goal.

i cant wait for this cup to start.
