I'm kinda bored so I thought i'd make a random ass poll. When i ask whats your favorite magazine, i mean it in the sense, if someone was to come over to ure apartment or ure house, what would they see on ure coffee table or magazine rack. Me personally, at my apartment; FHM, Maxim, sports illustrated, car and driver, and men's health. At home on the other hand; SI, slam, espn, mens health, and flex. WHAT ABOUT YOU?

WHERE IS HIGHLIGHTS?

I am a fan of Maxim because of the variety of articles. Fashion. Fitness. Babes. Culture. Pop-Culture. Gadgets.

I agree. The website as well is a wicked tool to gain more insight in workout routines and so forth.

Are you kidding? Men's Fitness and magazines like it are one of the main reasons 99 percent of people in the gym have bulging biceps, lagging triceps, no quad or hamstring development and lower back problems. The whole magazine is pretty much an advertisement for the supplement companies. In the 3 years I had a subscription the only part of the magazine that was useful was the doctor column and the sex column.

For example this is what they say on the website
http://www.mensfitness.com/fitness/beginner_weight_training/521
But if all you're interested in is big muscles, you need to drive as much blood into the muscle as possible, and machines can allow you to do this safely and with good form.
I don't even know where to begin with how stupid it is.

That's sorta true. But I never said it was for beginners haha. It's mainly for people who already have a good foundation, and are able to handle the workouts in that mag, which are mainly splits and focus on specific bodyparts more often than not. Most of the workouts in there will lack compound exercises which you need as a starter, but I would say their workouts are pretty good for someone who has a decent built.

If anything, its just good for motivation, seein those freakin monsters in there before goin to the gym gets you pumppped lol

Yea, but beginners get caught up in the covers that say 'Put on 14 pounds of muscle in 7 days!' or 'Rock hard sexy abs in 3 easy steps!'. The bodybuilding split is the worst way for anyone who is not on steroids to ever train but these magazines shove it down people's throats and most people get lackluster results. I can see how they appeal to people though because when I was younger I ate at all it up and wasted so much time on the dumb stuff they published.

I think Esquire > GQ. GQ had just way too many ads and the style + topical essay articles in Esquire are good

Men's Fitness has excellent nutritional information, and the reason for the bulging biceps and underdeveloped back is generally because people choose to ignore the exercises they least like doing...do not confuse that with Men's Fitness not advocating it.

If you want a good exercise database, check the internet. This is one I use exclusively.

www.exrx.net

For nutrition, I just refer to a nutritionist because many claims out there can be backed up with little fact/test/studies.
The only magazine I have a subscription to is Automobile magazine. One of the better written Car magazines IMO.

I haven't read any of the issues recently but from 4-5 years ago all that was in there was low carb high fat diet crap. What kinda viewpoints do they have now? I will give them credit for turning me on to fish oils back in the day, freakin' miracle pill.

Most of the magazine's workout plans look like bodybuilding splits which normal non steroid taking people just won't see adequate results from. Like 4 different chest exercises because 'you gotta hit the muscle from all angles' and advocating leg press and leg extensions/curls for the legs. The supplement and machine companies have a lot of say to what is in these magazines. There has been an obvious change in the last 10-15 years because I have gone through the old issues of the different fitness magazines and back then it was a lot better.

I am not gonna lie I thought doing 100 curls a day would make me into Sunny Deol, and this was only like 2 years ago!
