Guest act at Bhangra Idols is the RnB group 112?

The hook for 'Peaches N Cream' is playing in my head and I'm wondering why the organizers invited an RnB group to a bhangra competition. However, its an interesting tactic which might pay off, switch it up a little bit for the audience - I am curious to see how the audience will respond to them.

I would still encourage competitions to try to get atleast one folk artist (Jassi Sidhu doesn't cut it).

Could this be the beginning of a trend? Non-bhangra artists at bhangra competitions to diversify the entertainment experience for the audience.

Being able to sing in Punjabi should do it...rather is be Jassi Sidhu or not

but 112.....wow im going agree with Vivek DESPERATE.
I dont think organizers should even consider it...lets just stick with BHANGRA

although, I bet the young crowd will like it, but I remember someone saying before how the crowd here is more family oriented rather than just the youngsters...i guess time will tell if other organizations will do it

awesome! i guess blowout will bring out 50 cent, and maybe they'd have sukhbir as the hardcore folk act.

it's interesting about 112...i wonder if they'll sing peaches n cream. someone has to tape that performance!

parents and family are going to be attending competitions and America hip-hop/rap/R&B will not mix with the Punjabi environment. For example, the people who don't speak Punjabi will be like WTF "oye ah ki ah"...people who do speak English and understand it will or might get offended by the lyrics especially if they have their daughters with them and these guys are point out to girls and acting out the song with might be a little sexual...I just don't see the positive that Idol has in mind when they decided to bring them? is it to just bring something different into the scene? not to attack the organizers but just curious as to the logic behind picking 112? bring a different audience to the competition? My only fear with that is what if this different audience that comes is very disrespectful and racist towards the dancers because of the phugs? Again not attacking just curious, I def commend a competition for looking outside the box and being innovative.

damn...jassi sidhu isn't entertaining. his lip syncing gets annoying. it's gotta be more exciting than that.

I feel where you guys are coming from. A lot of us folk heads would rather no guest performer over Jassi Sidhu and the likes, but the fact is a lot of people who aren't as into bhangra love Jassi Sidhu, Juggy D, Jay Sean, etc. These kind of acts attract more of the college brown crowd than someone like Harbhajan Mann. Jassi Sidhu had a free concert at my college last year and Gurjaratis, South Indians, were all there loving it more than Punjabis who were laughing at his terrible accent and lip synching.

But competitions know Punjabis will go regardless of if its Jassi Sidhu or Babbu Mann, and to reach a market they wouldnt otherwise reach they decided to get him. Makes sense for business, but it sucks for people like us who actually want to see a legit performance.

Yeah I completely agree. A lot of bhangra still played at college parties where indians mix is still basically 4-5 years old. At that time, names like RDB, Jassi Sidhu, Manak-E...etc were hot and people will still go out to see them. As Harman pointed out, as choreographers, we listen to the latest songs and appreciate good folk singers as well and would like to hear something else other than "Yaari".
