The song is not only to impugn punjabi women in the west, but to make us think about what we have forgotten. To bring the point home ask how many girls know what a saggi phull is and ask the men what a hal is . Now dancing to this song is up to the team but hopefully they understand what they are dancing to. Overall this is a caustic warning for punjabis not to forget their punjabiat.

the beat gets the crowd goin and creates the atmosphere teams need to win. even though lyrics do mean what you guys said above. on that note, do judges really take lyrics into consideration when they give points? If they do, then this song is not one teams should dance to. If they don't, is it still a problem if teams dance to it? Half the crowd in attendance probably doesn't understand punjabi, so does it bother the ones who do?

I was just wondering why would a team dance to this song. The song is about girls that have lost their "virsa" so to speak. Talkin bout, "tusi kaadiyan punjabna"....what kind of a punjabi are you..?...Jhummar is suppose to be happy lovey dovey isn't it? This song is pretty much laying the smack down on girls in the west....am i missing something? Or do teams just not know what the singer is saying???
Yes i was wondering the same thing
i think its really important to know what the songs are saying when dancing to it. You wouldnt want an all girls team dancing to jattmodhe te bandook rakhda and stuff right.
Our team definaltly considers lyrics when picking songs.

oh boy don't get me started on this topic. pisses me off how many idiotic teams dance to songs that they don't know the meaning of. Worst one I ever heard was "kanjri de kotey ney pyar milda" done by a co ed team. The girls were lip syncing the song haha. Im PRETTY sure they didn't know the meaning of that line. Relax everyone, theres enough acceptable bhangra songs out there that have "sick beats" or "get the crowd going" and most importantly relevant lyrics.

we danced to this song knowing what the lyrics meant

but the whole point of the song is not presented in a serious enough manner to actually be insulting, especially when at the end of the song, they have a sing along that says "usse sare he punjabi han", not to mention its an upbeat song, which makes it seem like the singer and writers didnt mean for it to be a song that raises awareness but rather a cute duet song in which the guy and girl go back and forth
I believe the singer, Baljit Malwa is from NY too, which is mentioned in punjabi before one of the songs on the album

In the past as a co-ed team we have refrained from using songs with controversial lyrics, but on this one it really wasn't that serious

although we made sure we didnt use a line like "reindiyan clubban'ch sharabana" which is actually kind of offensive

two things:

1. meistro what song has that kanjari line. i find that kinda hilarious haha.

2. if you listen to the whole song, when the girl's verse comes up the chorus is changed to "veh mundeyo tusi kaadiyan punjabna".
like as a whole, the song has does has some truth, but with regards to using it in a routine it is kinda iffy. but at the end of the day, the beat is sick and songs this year aren't as good as last year; a team, to a certain extent, has to make sacrifices.

Turbo knows what he is sayin and even tho the song has a sick beat you should still look at the words.

well, we used the song at masti. We understood the lyrics very well and we took it from this perspective;

to us, the songs kinda like a challenge b/w guys and girls. The guy sings his part about the girls. He's referring to the "chic in the punjabi song, whose not wearing much clothing" type. The girl sings her part about the guys and she's referring to the "guy who cut his hair, pierced his ears, into the gangsta ways" type.

I felt like PANJ could dance to it, b/c we're nothing like the song, complete opposite. We're on the lyricist side, so in a sense, kinda spreading the "word". Kinda like "hey we're on stage, girls, wearing chadrey, chunniya, doing traditional bhangra with lots of respect and knowlege, and look at you all, completely forgetting your culture and where you come from absolutely selling out. So how can you call yourself punjabi? Wake up"

but its not like a song i would dance to at a reception or something, but being on stage is a good oppurtunity to spread the word. Atleast in my opinion.

A lot of songs with sick beats but controversial lyrics have been used...sometimes I think its really depends on how the team views the meaning of the song, like in H.S.'s case her reasoning seems valid that they're on the lyricists side and are trying to spread the word. There was also the case of the khalistani song that BC cultural used at AVAP, but they already came on here and apologized for that. More recently my friend noted the use of Putt Sardaran De by NJ at masti. After listening to this entire song doesn't it seem that it is kind of insulting to sardars. For instance the lyrics are" "ki kehne ki kehne putt sardara de, chitte chadre zameena gehne, putt sardara de.......Ehna diyan dara utte bili vi na rajdi, unj kehnde pith saadi rajeya naal lagdi". translation of the second part: cats don`t get enough food from their homes, yet they say they are like kings. I don't know maybe I'm missing some sort of double meaning of the song?

i think its ok to use a song like this...because it reminds us of our virsa through the lyrics..and obviously its not meant to be offending to any sex you can tell by the way they are singing...the boys are just teasing the girls...and the girls are just teasing the guys

are you talking about the 'ran rakh ni kabootar wargi' part? hahaha. essentially means he wants to keep a woman like a pigeon. 'ran' itself sounds crude but it is not the equivalent to rundi so i guess they can get away with it.
