300+ dead in 2 days, GAZA STRIP

Maybe I didn't look hard enough but I'm surprised noone's brought up what's just happened with the attacks on the Hamas in the Gaza Strip by Israel. Naturally it still falls under the umbrella of constant Palestine-Israel conflict, but with nearly 400 dead in less than 4 days, the violence is escalating dramatically. For anyone up-to-date on the situation... any thoughts?

And for those who just wanna know a bit about this particular situation, here's an article.

Of all the things going on with this situation, I have been surprised as to how apathetic people have been...it's sad indeed.

It's funny that the U.S. government just sits here and watches the massacre take place too... when they try to be the "world police" anywhere else there are "terrorist" attacks. Israel & U.S. ties > Palestinian lives ::) Bullshit.

Completely agree with you guys. Israel declaring its goal to completely eliminate Hamas from the map in response to terrorist attacks, however, is similar to how some people are calling for a full on attack on pakistan here in india (Been skimming newspapers here, tensions are high at least in publications. talking to family members, however, it seems that there is no desire for retaliation among a majority of the common people). Neither situation will do anything but cause massive loss of life and greater tension between not only the two nations, but any affiliated nations as well.... more should be done. by everyone.

Also, I don't know if everyone was aware or not, but the Taj completely reopened about a week or so ago, full fledged (as did trainstations, the trident @ Oberoi, etc.). They placed tributes to the attacks, and are working full scale, having fixed the majority of the damage within the first week. Definitely an admirable act, though obviously keeping one of the best mumbai hotels out of business during a peak tourist time was out of the question. Also, there are still very very very high amounts of not only NRIs, but non-indian visitors pouring in to india, unafraid. At least, to some extent, they have managed to buffer some loss of tourism, particularly with americans. It was a scary feeling, standing between the Taj and Gateway, looking at about 50-60 boats of all sizes knowing that a month ago, these man ran up right out of the water...

I am upset that no one cares about the blood of a Palestinian. If 400 civilians are killed because of the death of one soldier, than Israel truly believes that the blood of an Israeli is much more valuable than a blood of a Palestinian. So much for a 'Democracy', because last time I checked Palestinians are still treated as 2nd class citizens.

Even the media doesn't give two shits. A few weeks ago when Bombay experienced its tragic event it was all over the news and people were calling it the 9/11 of India.
Now in Palestine more than double that amount has perished and people just turn the other way.

Please feel free to join my cause and donate money to the United Palestine Appeal.

It's ridiculous how the world just turns away and completely ignores the massacre going on over there. And it gets me so pissed to hear all the American government has to say is "Hamas started it." The US portrays this image of being the "World Police," but when I see them ignore situations in Darfur and in Palestine, it just shows that they are selfish in where they chose to interfere. Letting hundreds of civilians die and not saying one word in the Palestinians defense is horrible and it gets me so angry. I hate that fact that millions of my own US tax dollars are given to the Israelis to help them defend themselves while the Palestinians are being cut off from basic necessities such as electricity, gas, food, and medical supplies (thanks to the Israeli blockade in Gaza). And then the world wonders how this hatred towards the US, Israel, and other countries is even bred? THIS is exactly why. The current situation there and the lack of interest in helping defend the helpless, innocent Palestinian lives that are being taken is what angers so many and causes them to have so much hatred. This is how extremism is bred, when you fight terrorism by killing innocent people.

Speechless...

I regret to admit that till just now, I was completely unaware of this tragedy. (I should watch/read the news more) Nevertheless, I'm astonished by the intensity of this situation and couldn't agree more with what all of you have been saying.

To know that this is already happening btwn Isreal and the Hamas is bad enough, but now to hear that India and Pakistan are considering engaging in a similar act? That's absurd. How many other nations that are out of our eye are doing the same thing? And to think, the US really want's to just sit around because they understand "that Israel needs to take action to defend itself" or that "they are taking steps necessary to deal with the terrorist threat" (quoted from the article Kush linked)... Yea Kenny, I agree, so much for being the "World Police." I think the UN has the right idea when they say "a ceasefire must be declared immediately." Maybe I'm simplifying it too much, but nevertheless, killing innocents isn't solving anything, and it needs to stop.

#1 recipient in U.S. foreign aid: Israel, at around $2-3 billion
#2 recipient in U.S. foreign aid: Egypt, near $1 billion

I dont think israel will go back into gaza after withdrawing, but what they have done to the people in that area is garbage. they raze homes/complexes to flex their muscle, and they set up Palestinian housing areas strategically so that they are never at a disadvantage if there was to be a war/battle. they maintain access to all roads, while disallowing the Palestinians the same right. gaza is in the worst possible location- you have the water behind you, israel on your other two borders, and the biggest tool of a country (egypt) below you. egyptian soldiers have been firing on people fleeing from gaza, and its no wonder because they've been whipped by the u.s., and for their "loyalty" they get a fat paycheck from us. as a muslim i pray that the palestinians get back whats theirs and we shake off any and all u.s. influence in the region, but its evident that there is too much money and power at risk for that to happen. its a cat and mouse game, because if israel really wanted to pound the crap out of golan heights and gaza and take over the country they could easily. but of course you have to worry about your neighbors rushing in (lebanon, syria, jordan), and then you have iran who is like that drunk belligerent guy at a party who tells anyone walking by that he can F your mom and kick your dad's ass. there will be no peace until the israelis get what they want, or that the palestinians get what they want. that will never happen, so my idea is that the u.s. washes its hands of that area for now, and lets nature take its course.

i wish obama could tell israel to F off and treat them like any other country (where aid is based off of meeting certain requirements), but there are too many powerful yahoodis in this country for that to ever happen

the biggest tool of a country (egypt)
agreed, Egypt takes much of the blame here...they refuse to let Gaza citizens in to their country for medical help, and even their own citizens are turning against then...wanna know why? Because they are on America's Pay Roll.

i wish obama could tell israel to F off and treat them like any other country
So do i, too bad the sec. of state is Clinton who owes the Yahoodis for her senate seat in ny, and the Chief of staff, Rahm, has a former Super Zionist father...the Democrats have historically been much more on Israel's Lund, I doubt Obama's admin. will be much dif...

It's not funny, it's disgraceful! Why don't they just help instead of watching people being massacred?

In more recent news, Israel launched a missile into a refugee camp and killed Hamas military commander Nizar Rayan. Let me just play devil's advocate for a second...please don't take offense...

First of all, the fact that members of Hamas are using refugee camps as shelter is despicable. They are using their own palestinian people as human shields and should be condemned by their own community before Israel has to do it for them. Israel should be condemned for their brutality, but I just would like to bring to light the fact that no one has a solution. We can play the blame game as much as we want....shouldn't the Palestinian community be standing up against Hamas and attempting to eradicate these people themselves? Again, this country is completely up Israel's ass and there is no debate there, but "money talks, bullshit walks", and in this country many of the people with deep pockets are closely aligned to Israel...it is what it is....

The Palestinian People need a true leader...like Yasser Arafat...who was able to break considerable ground in peace between the two parties, and the lack of a true leader since then has cost the Palestinian people dearly...if the Obama administration really wants to go make a dent in this situation, the Palestinian people need to find a leader which can deal diplomatically who is not aligned with Hamas, and attempt to suppress violent organizations such as Hamas. The fundamental issue lies in whether Palestinians are willing to accept Israel's existence. It appears Palestinians have two options. Either accept Israel's existence and reach some sort of a peace as was accomplished by Arafat for awhile, or do not accept Israel's existence and continue to lose innocent lives. As I said before, the US will back Israel regardless...nothing we can do to change that...Palestinians stand no chance in a fight against Israel.

Sorry if this upset some...I see 2 ways this can be done...1. continual conflict as has been the story for countless years, or 2. finally a compromise which would sadly involve Palestinians acceptance of Israel's existence. There must be a Palestinian to convince the majority that enough is enough...Hamas violence is not doing anything but leading to more innocent casualties.

for jeeti,

u make valid points i see where u are coming from, and that would be the logical route to take for 'peace'.

however, the majority of u do NOT know that the Israeli brutalities happen on a DAILY BASIS. the bulk of you on here, just like the bulk of the world, does NOT know that these atrocities happen everyday committed by the state of Israel. u only hear bout it when Israel officially launches an offense against Palestine, so therefore, Hamas/Philistinis probably must have reallllly fuckedup if Israel is deciding to bomb people again.

thats terrible.

i dont feel much like stating my views on here on this subject cuz thers too much history behind it, too much history that none of you know or probably will know cuz ive been around this my whole life, where as most of you being indian probably focus more on indian/desi issues growing up and thats fine.

but on the statement bout the two state solution and the Philistini's accepting..
who knows exactly what occurred in 1967?

let me put it this way since i have a problem with rambling and explaining evyerthing completely indepth when it comes to history (ask roop or gabar) and i dont have time rightnow ...

***wat if afghanistan took india, and bulldozed hindu n sikh houses down at will, destroyed crops at will, fired on kids running to school, disallowed ur access to roads to get to school/work/hospitals/ relocated all non afghans into small tight communities surrounded by afghan communities, which in turn are cutup by roads that u CANT use, so therefore u need permission to even leave ur hood and go to school or hopsital or market place, meanwhile people raid ur house middle of the night, rape a daughter or two, kill someone, destroy ur house, harrass u til u LEAVE ur own house, and then ur house is replaced by another jewish built home.

imagine THAT happened. and then tell me wat ud think of a two state solution. would u get on ur knees and jsut accept it? KNOWING, THAT SINCE THE ATROCITIES ARENT HERE N THERE DURIN ISRAELI OFFENSIVES, THEY ARE EVERYDAY OF YOUR LIFE NO MATTER WHAT...would u accept it? or would you want YOUR LAND and YOUR RIGHTS back to what they used to be? ****

who here really knows wat happens there? honestly. i dont need BBC heads, or FoxNews heads or Sky News heads cuz we all know how the media works. the zionist PR campaign is unbelievable. i wana know jsut in general, who really knows wat happens there on a daily basis?

ps the afghanistan/india thing is jsut for example, so maybe it will hit home more properly. thats all.

No doubt Tai that Palestinians have been treated unjustly...but where does it end? Do you see Israel conceding? I understand your perspective completely, but what if continuing to fight only leads to more Palestinian casualties where does it end? From your perspective, someone more familiar with the atrocities committed by Israel, what is the solution in your opinion?

when israel finally is forced to follow the resolution of 1967. its THAT SIMPLE.

but oh yea, they wont be forced, cuz Zionists control every body of power needed to keep Israel out of jail.
