Please answer Yes if you think its dead or dieing. Also, How can we save it?

answer NO if you think its not going anywhere.

Also, any suggestions on choosing judges would help too like requirements to be judge.

lol one competition results cant lead to a decision if live bhangra is "dead". there has also been times when a team on music danced better than live... yet live won jus cuz they were live... so its both way around. not that i mean that live teams didnt deserve to place @ bulldog... but im saying jus cuz of fked up judgin @ one competition, cant lead us to such a conclusion.

Why not make a poll if you're going to ask for a yes/no ? Just a thought.

My vote: NO.. Bhangra is not dead or dieing after ONE competition that didn't have the placing people expected. Think about how long Bhangra has been around and how globalized it is. Do you honestly think one small Bhangra competition in North America even plays a minute impact on the overall mindset of this musical and cultural artform?

I would have to say no. A lot of Canadian teams are going live these days. We try to represent our Punjabi culture as much as we can, in any and every way so that does not really apply to us. I am on Punjabi Beat and I don't think live is dying at all. There are more and more competitions happening every year, so it is coming back if anything.

totally understandable. but knowing the thoughts of other is the objective. its not about about modern Vs live music stuff. both are cool. but judging always goes one way. either modern or live music. whole purpose of this threat is to answer yes or no and sharing thoughts on how to resolve these conflicts. So we should should create a list that what should bhangra be judged on: (dnt know if there is one already.) also i havent started this because of just one competition. seen it a lot over the years that teams are not getting the respect they deserve. Global bhangra was another one. i knew the results before com.

Also, its not about that you do not want to do live bhangra. its that do ppl wanna c it. or judge it as the way it suppose to. i did live bhangra for almost 10 years in punjab and i do not see it getting same kinda respect here. even though bhangra teams love live music, but does it get that kinda respect?

The to do list for Bhangra teams, so everyone gets the respect they deserve. (Things to keep in mind before entering competition) pls add to it.

I don't think it's dieing or dead, some judges just don't know what real bhangra is.

Judgment is killing good bhangra teams by giving wrong judgment at the competition.

Basicaly Judge are discouraging bhangra teams.

Live bhangra is alive & well. The 2005-2007 fad of doing live just for the sake of having a "live segment" in your set is dead and more teams are leaning towards doing proper folk sets.

No, this is just one comp. And this comp had a lot of flaws judging wise from what I've heard. Most comps nowadays are modern so more and more teams that are perfectly capable of doing live with a lot of work, are reverting to music. I think (just a hunch) that organizers for many new comps may think that modern comps bring in better/more teams and more sponsorships/audience and I'd totally disagree if they really thought that, but I'm not sure if they do (once again its just a feeling). So that's why live comps are a bit harder to find.

That's like saying "Co-Ed Bhangra is dead" if well-deserving co-ed teams don't place at one or two competitions.

And like everyone said, hell, live is getting better and more popular. More people are educated in the ways of traditional bhangra these days and thus can appreciate live so much more.
