Special shout outs to Dilbagh, Hardeep, BABC, Temur (the name which I STILL cannot get that damn special character for), Vic, and anyone who helped us in any way shape or form (half of whom I probably don't remember). You guys are great!
lol glad u enjoyed having me around. had lots of fun chillin with the gajjdi jawani kids and campy n lavesh, u guys did great and i know ull do good in the future. lots of awesome people this weekend, dibagh, jeetu and the rest of the kpgd guys, the singer from nj, babc guys, nana dholi, drunk PPA guy i was sittin behind during the show, mr. partyjatt, ankur, ankush, jaggi, tz,the guardian guys at the afterparty and everyone else i did bhangra with at the afterparty. jabar, sonny, monster, gagan, sukha, and all the other virsa guys(i apologize for not knowing the names) ran the show amazingly, great group of guys and theyre always friendly and willing to help; lots of respect for all the work they put in, they ran the show well and the audience loved it. i went to BAB mainly for the live teams, this was my first time ever seeing live teams perform, and it was an amazing experience. all the teams were incredible nj, dcmpaa, babc, 3D, i loved every performance. nj was solid, talked to their singer before the show, awesome guy and definitely sang good, dude in orange definitely held it together, its scary when ur dancing on your chadra like that but he kept it together and finished the performance. dcmpaa, ricky had some sickkkkk lyrics and nana was amazing on dhol, i thought it was a clean/solid performance. BABC, singer was intense, nasty hek at the beginning, sher at beginning by one of the dancers was awesome too, loved the tumbi playing and jabar is nasty as always on algozey. BABC guys were awesome, lots of energy and nakhra, really enjoyed their performance. my favorite performance of the night was 3D, the best singer of the night, dude was intense, it was tough to focus on just the dancing when their singer was putting on such a show. incredible voice, incredible lyrics, dude was into the performance as much as the dancers were, i got a chance to congratulate him after they won second and tell him how amazing i thought his singing was and the dude completely humble. the 3D dancers were intense the girls and guys were all on the same level, the energy never dropped, they ripped it on stage and i loved every second of it; hope to see them perform live again. great weekend!

edit: sorry bout the kamarkasa(belts) joe, lol i warned you guys
haha awesome meetin u 2 hardeep, its cause of me and abhi we had to wear the belts lol...damn i hate em 2 :/

Personally I’d like to thank Pinder! If you don't know Pinder-- everyone should get the chance to know him. He's probably one of the chilliest/nicest dudes ever. I'm not just saying that because I'm a girl. Literally he's genuinely nice to everyone. He will put in all his effort to help anyone out and make sure they have the best BAB experience. He's gotten calls from us at random times of the day and night- not once did he ignore us. For teams looking to apply in the future- this is a well run competition that will benefit you in many different ways. You should contact Pinder, or any of the Virsa guys personally for more details about BAB3.

Hey guys this is Gulshan!!!!!

First off BAB was one the best competiions i have ever been too soo far. Virsa Folkstars definately held it down!

Secondly, plzzz guys im really not that good at singing! hahahahha im soo emabaressed guys! The video u guys posted is all bad ahahahhaha ma sisters made me sing at ma sisters babyshower. How often do guys go to baby showers and then are asked to sing boliyan! jk

Thank everybody for the pyaar/support/feedback cuz its nice to actually hear that ppl care about the hard work/effort that we as live bands ( singers, dholis, algoze/tumbi/chimta players etc) put into live sets. I had no idea what type of response we were gonna get being a live coed team in the east coast. All the support that u guys have given me and ma team at the comp and now on btf is greatly appreciated and i hope that we get a chance to come bak to ny next year and come back a 100 time stronger nahhmeaan! Once again thank you guys!

I thought that Jatinder Jargia of BABC had the sickest voice.
Let's not forget the Chimta player ;) lol jk
That's crazy! I didn't know he had a music video. It was great hearing him singing this weekend. An amazing guy.

lol i'll repost here kush. made the mistake of making a separate thread. hopefully the repost will generate some more discussion.

Had a great time at Big Apple and just wanted to post some thoughts from the show. Feel free to agree/disagree and add on.

Friday Night: Didn't get to make it to the mixer because all flights into LaGuardia were delayed but finally arrived at about 1 AM. The committee was welcoming and kind enough to find space in the hotel for teams to practice in. So that was definitely nice after being stuck in airports for about 9 hours.

Saturday: Tech time was a bit delayed but to their credit, the committee didn't take that out on the teams. Our team got the rightful amount of time to rehearse and we were never penalized/held accountable for whatever misfaults were going on on their end. One thing that did make the day very long - and I'm not sure if or how this could have been fixed - but we had to stay at the venue once we got there. So since we were first in the show, we were at the venue from 10 AM - 10:30 PM. That might be something to try and fix for BAB 3.

Show Review:

Music Teams

GMU/Guardians: Didn't get to see you guys but heard great things. I'm sure someone else can fill in for me here.

SSNY: Could see that there were some good ideas and potential but the main thing that detracted from your performance was there were too many choreo slip ups and the formations didn't hit very well. If the set was executed better then I think it would have given the audience a different impression but it was distracting to continually see someone doing opposite legs/forgetting a move/being out of place. Like I said though, good potential and hope to see some improvement in the future.

DCBC: Had some really great segments! Overall I liked the ideas in the routine and I'm a big fan of the girly-swag that is highlighted at key moments in your routines - loved the freezes in photo rakh ke. Great song selection as well (I believe 2Nyce did your mix so props to him). I think the energy at times was a little low and could have been higher. As well, there were a couple key times when dancers messed up choreo and one fell - from what I remember especially in the ending song. That left a bit of a bittersweet taste because the last impression I got was seeing choreo being forgotten. One thing I would watch out for is when the team is doing jhummar, it looks like some of the girls are over dancing (swinging elbows). Also maybe at your next competition, if you do the light up khunde again, try not have black out lights for too long - the initial impression was great but then as time went on the idea started to get stale.

SGPD: Very very dramatic and original beginning. The crowd was definitely pumped up by it with a lot of audible "oohs" and "aahs." The props segment was extremely innovative. I'd say even a step up from Elite 8, which was impressive. After the props segment though, the routine started to lose it for me. Some of it might have been because I've watched the Elite 8 performance a bunch of times so I knew exactly what was coming in the recycled choreo, but alot of it was the messiness/lack of energy throughout the performance. You've created an almost unfair standard for yourselves because of how many great performances you've put on. With the reputation of being an elite team comes the expectation of always executing like an elite team. At BAB, I didn't get the vibe I was watching SGPD. Rather, I got the vibe I was watching another team do SGPD's routine. I have no doubt you'll amaze us with many more performances in the future and you're still my favorite team to watch, but the routine didn't click for me on Saturday night.

AEG/SMD: Now this team clicked for me Saturday night. The mix was fire, the swag was there, and the execution was pretty on point. A lot of great things to be said about this collaboration and as anyone in the audience can attest to - they had by far the loudest crowd reaction of the night. In fairness, I'm sure some of this was from being the hometown team; that being said, it was a very well earned reaction and in my opinion, AEG/SMD deserved first place.

Gajjdi Jawani: Props to the other team from NC! There was a lot of great stuff here and you can tell this is a well coached/run team. In this lineup, with the amount of firepower that was there, I think GJ looked a little bland. But that's not to say it wasn't a solid performance - the dancers are high caliber and I'm sure we'll see them at many more top tier competitions in the future.

Furteelay Shokeen: First off, congrats on a great mix - that was a very well deserved award. This team is on the upswing and is going to be a force in the near future. In the past year, I think FS has shown they can get into all the big name competitions, but now they are starting to show they are contenders to place wherever they go. One thing I will say is keep working with dancers on your form. At points in the routine people weren't completing moves and that took away from the performance. All around though, very impressive and congrats once again!

KPGD: Really proud of my team, especially for all the adversity we faced getting to BAB. Unpredictable stuff happens to teams all the time, but we lost a dancer 2 days before the competition (props to FCB's Harman Deol for picking everything up in a night) and didn't have our first full team practice until rehearsal the day of the competition. This team has constantly improved and it's because of the hard work put in by our captains and the core of our team - Sumeet, Nikhil, Kanwar, and Varun. The four of them held it down and the other 8 of us followed their lead. Though we didn't come away with a placing this time, we're pleased by our performance and glad so many others were as well.

Live Teams

I'll allow someone else to put together a review of this side of the competition. I'm not as well versed in live to give as well informed of an opinion or perspective on it. That being said, I thought 3D was the best live team at BAB and should have won 1st. The grace, power, execution, and creativity were all on point. NJ was a close second but I thought 3D got the better of them.

Judges Commentary

I second a lot of what has been said in the now separate judges thread. When you're going into a competition where judges have seen you 3-4 times within the past 5-6 months and you're competing against the same teams that repeat about half of the set, prior knowledge is bound to inadvertently affect a judge's decision making process. A judge should never go into a competition being familiar with a team's set. Though credit is due for some of the monumental performances by some of the teams at this competition (SGPD with a lot of this set at Elite 8 and AEG with a killer performance at Bruin), that credit should stay within the confines of the previous competitions. Simply put: If a team won 1st at a past competition and repeats that set at a second competition, they should be judged solely on their performance at that second competition.

Beating established teams is difficult enough - they're obviously very talented. Underdogs shouldn't have to compete against a team plus their reputation.

Special thanks to Havish for helping us with our paggan, Harman once again for coming through in the clutch, and the committee for a great weekend overall. Congrats to all the placing teams!

thanks so much for the feedback - really appreciate it :) just a side note to clarify - our lighting got messed up (even though in rehearsal it was fine) the black out was only supposed to last for the instrumental and lights were to come back on for the entirety of the miss pooja song. the extra long black out and random shut off in the middle of the miss pooja song weren't planned to happen but unfortunately did!

I was told that captains were informed in the pre-show meeting that points would be deducted for girls hitting their thighs. Is this true, and if so, which judge or judges said that?
