So Ortiz just got nailed for the roids... Even with the roids, Arod, Manny and Ortiz are still light year behinds Bonds... F*ck New York and Boston, those f*cks laughed at Frisco when we were going through the whole Bonds ordeal... suck it f*ckers... Once again New York and Boston become the laughing stock of the west..

For a sport that is based on not only your contact % but the power behind each of your hits, its a mystery to me why baseball hasn't been shutdown. Every time someone starts cranking out HRs we keep forgetting that these guys could be roided up. I wouldnt be surprised if it comes out that Pujols is pill poppin' either. As much as i hate Barry, he was def a better player than those other guys. Before he turned into a beefcake he was a slick outfielder and got a good amount of stolen bases. People like Ortiz and McGuwire are just there to hit balls. Something like that definitely cheapens the game

right on... Bonds is the only member of the 500-500(500 steals and homeruns) and he took it one step further to the 600-600 club I believe... His resume in sports is probably the 3rd best behind Jordan and Gretzky... But his influence the on the game is second to none, he changed the sport like no athlete has in any sport...

Everyone forgets about Ken Griffey Jr. The guy is one of the best hitters in baseball history and was sick defensively. If he didn't go through some injury problems, he would have been the greatest of all time. Yes, better than Bonds. Even through his injuries, you can't discount what he did in his career (top 5 in career home runs, 10 gold gloves) and probably the most likeable guy to play the game of baseball. There was no cloud of steroids around him and never will be. Probably one of my favorite players to ever play baseball...had the sickest and purest swing in the game.

We agree on something, this is a monumental day... When I saw who posted in the thread, I thought you would bring up some Detroit slugger... haha...Griffey was awesome and he was probably the only player I could think of that would upstage Bonds... It's unfortunate that the injuries ruined a good part of his career... I'm happy that he's back in Seattle where it all started for him... I miss the Jay Buhner, Edgar Martinez and Griffey days...

Haha damn i didnt even think about Ken, he was definitely one of the best and one of the most wholesome dudes in the game. To watch him celebrate a HR, you had to have been a fan- he had that little hitch as soon as he saw it leave the atmosphere, and he rounded the bases. Nothing fancy, just pure class. Sad to see him get derailed by injuries, that guy deserves the best

I couldn't agree more. Griffey was my favourite player in his glory years. haha, I even used to buy his cleats for baseball. Definitely would have surpassed Bonds had he been healthy. Has a nicer swing than Bonds too. Played with a lot more grace. All that, without roids. The guy kind of reminded me of like an Anfernee Hardaway or Grant Hill of baseball. But yea, those mariners teams were fun to watch.

Vick, get off Bonds' balls. Bonds didn't do shit for baseball. He walked away from the sport with a paper bag on his head. "he changed the sport like no athlete has in any sport." wow, you've said this to me before too, and boy are you sooo wrong. Ass guy.

Bond's pre steroids was on the short list for greatest of all time, atleast in his era I always considered him the greatest. 5 tools like a champ. He had OPS+ of 200 in the early 90's which is freakin' nuts. Problem with Barry was he was a dick to the media and that eventually came back to bite him in the ass.

Steroids and drugs are nothing new in baseball, there is evidence that dudes were shooting up with horse steroids in the 70s. Amphetamines were used like crazy, even by dudes like Aaron. I don't really care about steroids to be honest, it is a business and baseball is for our entertainment, not some kind of sacred mystical game. I like watching pitchers that throw 99 and sluggers who hit it 500 feet, if they gotta juice up and shrink their balls to do it, more power to them (literally haha).

But you know who is a beast supposedly without the steroids? Albert Pujols, good god what a machine. If he can keep up his production he will be an all time leader in so many categories.

About Griffey, we don't know that he didn't take roids. We don't know that for anyone now, you can take preformance enhancers like HGH and not get tested for that shit, or even more synthetic stuff like Manny who wasn't caught because of the steroid but for the women's drug that pointed to steroid use. Griffey's injuries were alot of lower body injuries which steroid users will often get dissproportionatley. I hate to be skeptical but I am not considering anyone to be 100 percent clean unless they are David Eckstein or something.

He was walked with the bases loaded intentionally... That kind of respect is the equivalent of all 5 players guarding Jordan, 2 goalies in one net against gretzky, teams getting a 14 pt head start against the Patriots, Australian cricket team only gets 5 outs.... Let's the seek the common theme here, none of these have ever happened because these teams/players were not dangerous enough to seek that kind of respect.... Bonds was! End of story saleya, jump on the Giants bandwagon now dude, we're gunna be making some noise in the bay soon with our pitching staff pitching the way it...

yes he was good, yes he got walked an insane amount (especially in later years)

my only issue is that he didn't revolutionize baseball (except maybe bring the steroid debunking along a little bit sooner). Jordan helped fuel a new generation of players...shifted the paradigm from centers-first, and motivated new/improved defenses. Bonds' issue is that hitting is individual for the most part. Sure he got walked...but that doesn't impact the game as a whole, it doesn't leave a lasting legacy in how the game is managed (i'm not saying he had none)

What about football? Dickerson, Sanders, Elway, Rice (ah fuck it I'll bite and even say Vick) had huge impacts in how the game was played, forcing other teams to come up with better schemes.

I agree w/ swi that bonds was a great baseball player and yes omg he was walked because he was so good, but he didnt revolutionize anything, didnt show the depth of skill that a player like jordan did.

See what Bond's did, you can't just replicate that. He was a freak of nature. You can't teach players to be Barry Bonds. While I agree that Bond's didnt change the game from a long term perspective, but he turned the baseball world upside down for the year's he wore a uniform. He was walked over 200 times in one season, there is no other single stat in any sport that remotely comes to matching that in terms of respect for a player. Most people hate Bonds not because of his "alleged" steroid use, but because of his relationship with the media... If he was buddy-buddy with the media he would have gotten a lot more respect from the sporting world... If he played in New York and broke all those records he would be a god. But he remained loyal to San Francisco and that's why I love him...

If only Sabean didn't trade away one of the best pitching prospects in baseball away yesterday for a singles hitter named Sanchez hahahaha. Giants could have had another young ace I can't believe they traded him.

It takes a lot more skill to hit a homerun than a 3 pointer... It takes a lot to win a gold glove, steal 600 bases, see one pitch every game and make the most of it... all while you are on the verge of going to jail for 20 years...

Bonds getting walked a record amount of time also had something to do with the rest of his team's offense being average. There was little fear of anyone batting behind him doing serious damage which meant pitchers could walk him and deal with the rest of the lineup.

Yes, Bonds had sick numbers. But he changed very little in the game. His legacy will be that of a big, steroid pumping machine who hit home runs..kind of like McGwire, Sosa and a million other guys involved in the steroid controversy. He didn't revolutionize anything and the fact that no one outside of San Fran likes him as a person (media and fans included) doesn't help cement him as a trailblazer.

I'm not saying he's a trailblazer, I'm saying he's the best baseball player in history... and to compare him to Mcgwire is a disgrace and a comment made by amateurs in the baseball world... they couldn't be any different...

You hit it on the head. The fact that he did steroids late in his career really turned off a whole segment of fans like me who admired the 5 tool star he was when he was younger.

Revolutionize the game? Bob Gibson made them lower the mound because he was such a beast, and he still kicked ass. Now that is revolution.
