Bhangra Bash Judging

Man, who knew the judging issue was THAT big for Bash. I think the problem may have been the focus on local judges vs judges who can do a good job from out of the area. Although I saw only 1 performance (I escaped the dressing room area to watch GW), I heard varying things about the judging. In most people's hearts, Jawani shouldn't have just placed, but they should've placed 1st. I heard the same going for BMW. I'm not here to bash anyone or anything (since i saw virtually nothing ), but I did hear something about how Rutgers didn't have jhummar in their routine. I believe it wasn't Jora or Mandeep, but one judge actually stated Rutgers had no jhummar. Now, knowing Rutgers and see how they perform...you can clearly see it. I don't think the issue is with Jora or Mandeep, but more on the level of more qualified judges for Bash. I had a great time in varying areas of the competition, but I felt that teams were quite beat up about the knowledge of judges.
That is all for me on the judges, i really wish i could've been allowed to see ANYTHING!

From what I understand the teams haven't got the official scorecards for themselves. This is utter bullshit as the teams should be able to know what was their weakness, strenghts and points deducted if applicable. I talked to Bharathi from Jawani and she said her team hadn't recieved the score card but were told they would have within a certain time. I'm not shitting on anyone, just i think its unfair for teams to be kept in the dark as to what they recieved from the judges collectively or individually.

I am really new to the competing stage of bhangra as before all I have done is bhangra at fundraisers, parties, and other events. I just don't understand why people are living in the past. We can't change the past. in this topic most people are complaining about the judging. Instead they should be positive and think of recommendations for the comittee. I am also sure that everyone knows that there is no such thing as a flawless routine, so the best thing to do is to get a few videos of your routine. look at your mistakes, (there are guaranteed to be multiple) and improve. the most important thing is that everybody I saw there had fun and enjoyed the whole experience. Correct me if I'm wrong but that is what bhangra is all about.

I believe you are missing the point here....no one is living in the past...if you look at the very first post, it clearly was created to take an example (ie: wat happened at bhangra bash) and use it to create change for future competitions (ie: not having peers or people who are associated with teams judge as it may create biases).
And...yes you are right: bhangra is about having fun and enjoying the experience of this beautiful artform, but in addition, we live in a society where we are able to create a change when such instances occur, and this forum and the awareness of issues to the public is way that will occur

I didn't say that this thread was created cuz everybody wanted to complain. It was made for improving future comps. I'm actually talking to those people who wrote things like "If he he or she wasn't judging, they would've placed". The ones who are. I wasn't talking to everybody though. I do agree about this forum being used to change but some people (not all) are taking these comps a bit too seriously.

I believe that people are making such statements because there was a lot of questions raised regarding the placings after the competition (as in any comp), but in addition, the correlation between that and factors raised in the first post come into play, therefore the importance of a change needed within the community is further stressed.

Honestly a lot of people say.. "bhangra is supposed to be for fun" and things like that.. but the truth is when you put in so much time, effort and money into your team...time and money that could have gone into family, and school... you expect competitions to at the very least hold on to their end of the bargain.
