in this compition they announced a 4rth place team to so yeahh . ???
Yaa Lally that's so true - this competition was the biggest jaloose i've ever seen in my lifeLally said:I have to agree, the competition was the most UNPROFESSIONAL competition ever held. We drove out 10 hours, the day before the competition no organizer bothered to contact us, no one cared whether we had got there or not, we had to harass the organizers to get us a ride to rehearsals. The rehearsals were 2 hours late, had to wait on stage for 20 min just b/c they couldn't find a mic! We needed a blackout and flashing lights which they assured us there would be no problem with, but during the actual performance there were NO flashing lights during the intro music and the blackout was 4 secs late. Talking to the judges (before organizers started choking performers), it turned out we were penalized b/c of these technical problems which we had NO control over.
Before announcing the winners, there were HUGE speeches given by the judges in which they stated that if girls chose to do bhangra they should actually DO BHANGRA and not giddha, props should be used properly, etc. The placings totally contradicted everything the judge spent hours preaching. The team that got 1st place did everything that the judges said wasnt proper. They announced more winners than they had trophies for.
And just to clear things up, it wasn't organizers fighting against the judges. It was actually one of the ladies who was part of the organization who started grabbing a trophy back from the one of the winning teams and choking one of its members. After the incident she kept on yelling while the victim apologized repeatedly saying "tu meri bhan lagdi ah".
20 hours of driving for a rigged competition with NO pre party OR after party
The only thanks i want to send out is to the uncle who drove us to and from the theater.
There you have it folks, BHANGRA FLAMES 2009!

We spent months of practicing, plus taking time off school/work to prepare for this, just to get screwed over
And anyways, the reason why we do bhangra is so we can proudly represent our culture and show people outside of the Punjab what Bhangra is
Its our generation that's carrying this tradition forward to other generations - but its bullshit competitions like these that , instead of helping us promote culture, put politics ahead of pride, turning bhangra into more of a business than an art
