Bhangra injuries

I'm sure all of us are aware of the concept that 'pain is gain'. From sore muscles to shin splints, we've all been there. However, sometimes the injuries get very intense. I'm sure BTF members have plenty of stories to share. Videos or pictures are a plus!

The most serious injury I've ever witnessed first hand was with Geneseo Bhangra at Bhangra Blizzard 06. During our run through one of our captains literally went flying off the helicopter stunt (which I now hate) and dislocated her elbow pretty badly. She was in a cast for a while and her elbow eventually healed but she still can't bend it all the way to this day.

Yea Waldo I remember that man...I think run throughs got delayed. Normally I get mad when organizers delay run throughs, but that day I obviously didn't get mad because 1) there was actually a serious and legitimate reason for the schedule to get screwed and 2) there was dominoes pizza which i proceeded to house.

I saw someone from Boston Bhangra break her arm at Fusion 2004 after falling off of a stunt. Personally, no one from Cornell has been seriously hurt. Besides my ego (which got hurt at every competition), my only injury was a few strained muscles in my back. I based a 3 level tower (stand/sit/stand) at Desi Hungama in Syracuse, but the team was a little slow in getting together to catch the guy on top after the routine ended. The guy on topped just bailed and landed safely, which tipped levels 1 and 2 backwards. The guy sitting on my shoulders was able to hop off, but I wound up basically limbo'ing all the way back before losing my balance and falling. It was pretty bad for a few days and the pain was managable after that, although it didn't completely resolve for several months. Also I think every big guy who did stunts has bad knees, but fortunately mine are better.

Desi Hungama 2008
One of our guys and one of our girls popped their knees out during the performance. Despite the immense pain, they kept on going with the dance (as I kinda told them). It's one of the reasons our dance got really messy here and there because they couldn't do the moves properly. Plus, one of the guys, was my base for the one of the towers at the end. We literally had to carry them out and they were back-stage for a while rubbing Icy/Hot on their knees.

In addition, during one of the prop segments, one of the girls smashed my elbow at the funny bone with the stick (not really a daang) and my entire left arm went numb for the rest of the entire dance. You cannot believe how hard it is to dance with a numb arm and it's so hard to add energy to your steps.

Thank god we're done with that performance.

Aaj Ka Dhamaka about three years ago, there was a dude from Emory Azaadi who broke both his legs on stage doing a 5 man horse...it was ridiculous that he hobbled off stage. I thought me dancing with torn ACLs was serious, but this dude WALKED off stage with broken legs.

Back at Blizzard 2005 our original captain, Chetan Bagga, sprained his leg pretty badly while trying to shove a chimta up another dude's ass. I am not joking.

Another girl on our team split her foot open when she stepped on the same chimta on stage a day later.

I cannot, for my life, think of anything more painful than that. Like, that's pretty much game over. LOL. That's the worst way to go, too.

Hans, wasn't that the same chimta that one of your teammates stepped on right before you went on stage for South Beach??

This one takes the cake.

I was at practice for BB 12 back in 2005, and my man Keerti was the base for a dragon. I bet people that I could jump on to his shoulders while he was semi-standing (not quite squatting, not quite standing). I ended up jumping so high that my nuts hit the back of his head and all you heard was a SMACK...yep, I tatted my friend on the back of his neck. I don't know who got the worst of it...

Also, for Zee 2005 practices, we were working on a dragon/mohr and I was on top, Surmeet was the base and Benjamin was in the front. Surmeet clearly said, "Benny, DON'T GO." But what did Benny do? " Bro, did you say GO? OK !"
With that, Benny jumped up and wrapped his legs around Surmeet (no homo) and the whole dragon tipped forward. It wasn't so bad as it was hilarious!

i've taken a serious beating over the years because i'm always the base for every stunt...gotta get my back checked out and make sure i'm okay to do it again.

definitely bb12 featuring hopkins was the biggest accident i've ever seen...girl standing on the three person tower i think who fell off...she broke her ribs, ankle...the works...i have the video of it actually...haha
