I get what you're trying to get across but some of it holds no water especially the hiphop argument, usually people who make that argument don't even know what hiphop is and no offense but you're one of em.. technically speaking under the same definition and context you're using the hiphop word in, Aman hayer and 110% of the producers of punjabi music in the industry use 'too much' hiphop beats in their music, IN THE ORIGINAL PRODUCED SONG, so you can't avoid it. The only thing remixers like myself and others do is change the bass, kicks and snares to ones of our liking, the advance DJ's can also change the melody but thats it, the hiphop is there just as much as it was in the original state. The kicks that I use are no different in style or type of sound from the kicks original producers like aman hayer use. To make your argument valid, any song that has anything extra other then a tabla/sarangi/tumbi/dhol/chimta/algoja/baja/dhad is considered too much hiphop, which obviously does not make sense and is unavoidable in 2012. Don't be afraid to evolve, with this attitude you will sink in life.bhangra_101 said:k sorry I'm not gonna copy paste to reply, sue walking was a form of transportation to get from point a to point b, we upgraded using technology and made new forms of transportation but the idea behind both is still to go from point a to b... bhangra was created as a dance form and is a part of punjabi culture and like i stated earlier add gimmicks change your music cool make it fun but remember your supposed to be doing bhangra not hip hop, not stunts that take more time to set up than to do..
im not sure who originally stated that point about fumaniya but to argue I'm not saying change up your style of doing it AEG, RU bhangra and many other teams have done it differently and it does get cooler but in the end of the day it is still similar to the original fumaniya, now take the original change the hand movements and just throw your hands up, change the footwork to iono kicking, change the moving to bouncing up and down and u no longer have fumaniya u have a russian dance step in bhangra outfits lol which is no longer bhangra lol
go ahead add gimmicks and change music make it fun but don't make it so different that it doesn't even look like your doing bhangra on stage it looks more like just gimmicks hiphop and stunts...

I have not yet stated that teams should be all live traditional full on bhangra go ahead do your changes make steps cooler but keep them as bhangra steps
here's what i said before and ima restate it

Your phumniya argument really makes no sense to me either, you're asking why people are being 'too' creative in a COMPETITION, well duh, because its a competition lol and you're going against X amount of teams that are all after the first place spot just as much as you. So you almost HAVE to create your own identity, moves, and gimmicks to win otherwise you'd lose every competition you apply for, it's not like we are all part of a diabolical scheme to destroy bhangra and it's not like we don't like performing the original moves, it's just that without evolving to this next step, you're not going to make it anywhere. The better equipped team, that includes dancers set and music, will always win over less prepared and less creative teams.
If you feel this strongly, then open up an academy lol the world needs people like you to keep bhangra alive, so why not take the chance and teach the world what you so strongly believe in? but if you're asking modern bhangra to change back to the 2007-8 days, goodluck trying to get that across to the thousands of paying customers that dish out their valuable time and money to be wowed by whats being performed on stage, none of them will give a fuck about the original bhangra moves.
Walking is still walking, people still walk to places. Driving is not evolution of walking, its one more option we have, maybe evolution from horse carriagesSue Sylvester said:Yo man, what ever happened to fucking walking to places? Like, since when did we stop using our goddamn feet and get into these Mother Earth murdering gas chambers with wheels that you cant even tell like if its like a person or an autobot in disguise. Can someone elabor8 how its even natural to get into one of those aeroplanes and be existing at like 20 googolplex feet in the air? I mean, cool that you can do all these crazy things in the modern age thanks to people trying new things, thriving to improve, survive, evolve and redefine our existence as an species.... but come on... being a human means living like we were suppose to... lets leave the cars and machines to the cylons
COMTONDAJATT said:Where do you set the point on what is acceptable as 'bhangra' or not? 1947 style? 1970s? Late 80s? Is it the spirit of the dance that you want preserved? Do you not want elements that seem foreign? No hip hop? Where do you want to draw the line of people creativity to present something they like in a new and interesting way? Don't you think if you put limits and restrictions on what is acceptable then in 20 years from now everyone will be doing the exact same routine and people will quit out of boredom?
Should I keep posting in the form of questions from now on? Is it a good gimmick?
That's cuz we didn't evolve from monkeys. Modern-day monkeys and modern-day humans share a single common ancestor, just like walking a mile through grasslands has evolved into hitching a cab-ride down a mile or the less popular, scurrying down 20 city blocks.Jatt08 said:Humans evolved from monkeys but we don't call ourselves monkeys any more do we?
Sue Sylvester said:But seriously, yo. Take Bhangra Empire back in time 20 years to a pindh in Punjab. You think everyone's still going to clamour for live bhangra over an Empire performance? Hell no...
Well I don't know about naming the kids after the dholi but they sure won't be able to tell the difference between Bhangra, Aerobics,Cheer leading and the Russian Dance ... wait isn't that called fusion? lolSue Sylvester said:But seriously, yo. Bhangra what it is today (to a certain extent) was created in the late 50's and early 60's but bhangra as it relates to cooking hemp and celebration of the harvest has existed much longer than that.faizan said:bhangra was created as a dance form and is a part of punjabi culture
Yea, it was created in like 1960. You're complaining about the evolution of a dance that has been "part of punjabi culture" for like 50 years. My house is older than bhangra. so is my dad, the tree in my backyard, and rock music...haha
