Dear Bhangra Lovers:
We are proud to bring Nirmal Sidhu to this year's Boston Bhangra Competition. He hasn't performed in the USA for over 12 years! We look forward to him rocking the stage on Saturday, November 12th!

We have a video of him up on our site. Please visit our site and learn more about Nirmal Sidhu, along with viewing a special video he made especially for us and all of our observers! www.bostonbhangra.com/bbc

Sincerely,
Boston Bhangra, Inc

NIRMAL SIDHU? NASTY.

I commend BBC for being one of the few comps left who actually has a musical guest (a real musical guest, not the organizer's buddy who sings or bikram can't singh).

BBC is the dopest comp out there, but I'm going to have to disagree with you on that one... Jaz Dhami last year was amusing to say the least

We do try to bring new artists to Boston every year. Whether they be up and coming, or some of the oldies but goodies. Unfortunately, not all of them perform up the level that people expect. We want people to at least get a flavor for some of the people that help to keep Bhangra alive, both the teams and singers. Artists in general don't provide us one cent in additional revenue, but we do it for the teams, audience and again, to increase the footprint of Bhangra in Boston and New England.

Fine Jaz Dhami sucked (although he's decently big in the UK)...but a listing of all the performers over the years would probably blow our minds...does anyone have a list of all the performances by year at boston?

We've had a good mix of old and new. We've never gone with the SUPER highly priced artists as those guys simply aren't worth the money compared to where else we could spend it (Jazzy B, Sukshinder Shinda, Surinder Shinda, Harbhajan Mann, Lehmber, etc). We would love to bring those guys here, but they simply have taken themselves out of the market with their pricing (there is a reason you haven't seen them at ANY competitions over the past several years).

It would be nice to showcase some of the up and coming north american talent, such as Jasbir Thabal, Raju Johal, Harleen Singh; would probably be cost effective too. The issue that most people have with the established artists is that when they get on stage most of what they do is playback singing. I would rather prefer an artist who isn't too famous or well known who actually puts effort into singing and showcasing their talent than someone famous who has some hit song that they lip sync to on stage.

The problem is that any set on stage without a band would most likely be lip synched to some extent. Showcasing new talent isn't a problem, but we have to appease the audience to some extent as well. The songs that the artist created have to be somewhat known, otherwise they add almost no value to the audience. Even the teams might not have heard of the songs. As long as the artist has at least 2-3 songs that are recognizable by a relatively large size audience, that would be our criteria. Again, we have no problem putting the new talent on stage, but if nobody has heard their songs before, that doesn't help the situation.
