After another week of strong performances, we've reached week 3 of the Mixing ladder, and for the first time, we have a new reigning champ: Swizzee! Don't rest on your laurels, though, because there's a strong roster of challengers gunning for that top spot. The ladder's below: rising DJs are listed in bold, and falling DJs are listed in italics.

This week's challenge is a segments challenge: we'll give each pair of mixers a single song with the task of making the best mix segment. This is a great chance to show you know your jugni from your jhoomer, and to produce a mix you just want to dance to.

Challenges will be accepted until 11:59PM PST on Sunday, August 11. After that, you'll have a week to prep your mix. As always, you're encouraged to get your challenges in early: early entries get their songs in advance.

We've got a new prize this round for challenge winners, too. Trisha Arora of Radio Asia will be playing the three best mixes from each round of the competition on her radio show Bhangra Beats (on every Saturday from 4-6PM EST on Radio Asia 103.3hd2 and 103.9 in New Jersey/New York, as well as streaming live on radioasiafm.com and on iHeartRadio's app). We'll put up a separate thread today to let people vote on last round's best mixes.

What's the rule with defending yourself? If you haven't defended yet, your challenge can be declined?

Hi DJPurp, great to have you join the ladder! Per the rules, you're only allowed to challenge up to 3 spots above your current rank.

So right now, you can challenge as high up as spot 33 (which is DJ Sargam). The DJ's in spots 34 & 35 are respectively fair game for you as well!

So are you not defending yourself with my challenge? As I think..you challenge whoever you want..first come first serve. That's what makes the ladder so tough to climb cuz people below you are challenging and your defending yourself.

if you challenge someone, and someone else challenges you BEFORE the one you made is accepted, you are obligated to defend yourself whether or not your original challenge gets accepted.

preet can challenge someone else cause you, sk, have your own challenge from SSK to defend first. the point of the "defense takes priority" rule is to give a chance for the challenges of DJs lower on the ladder to have more of an effect.
