On another note, to our more mature participants, D-Will to the nets... Harman what do you think of that one? I'd say Prokhov is making major moves
I think he possibly made his first good move since taking over as GM (assuming Williams re-signs with the Nets which is no guarantee). Prokhorov missed out on all the big free agents in the off-season, overspent on an average player (Outlaw), and missed out on the player he REALLY wanted- Carmelo. Until this deal there were no facts to support him being a genius as a GM.
Still, Derron Williams and Brook Lopez are not enough to take the Nets anywhere. They lack depth and until they address that in the off-season they are nowhere near an NBA title. Lopez has actually regressed this year and I am not confident he has the ability to be a top tier center in this league.
Agreeable, but Prokhorov pulled off a sweet one with this, and they have lots more to come before next season. I don't see how you can really get it wrong, you were 2nd in the running for the most desired player during the season in Melo, only losing out becuase the player himself had his own plans. I can see them being a very marketable, very attractive option for others in the offseason, and yes Brook Lopez is average, but the potential is there... giving him other pieces in the surrounding will only allow him to be better.
As for Billups, I agree, he was the leader, but the thing is you had other people to take huge, lead dog positions on the team on different nights... if it wasnt there for Billups, Hamilton was on... When Rasheed was hot, man was HOT! You had lock down defense in Prince and Ben Wallace pulling down rebounds like he had magnets on his hands. Billups had to be a voice on a team with so much focused talent that his job was relatively easy.
My argument wasnt that felton>billups... but regardless of w/e "inflated stats" may exist in the d'antoni system, felton shows promise as a young point guard. In a team in REBUILD phase, that wants to be contesting for titles for the next 5 years, you don't want billups to be your primary guard. With all due respect, he is quite old and joining a high-octane offense. It isn't a walk in the park. In addition, he'll be out in a year depending on how the knicks look... and they themselves will be searching for a more long-term option (CP3, etc.). Felton could have filled that void, and he would have only gotten better with Anthony on the court.
I just want to see Gallinari do amazing things, I feel like he had so much potential and could have been NY's rock within the next 2 years.
