Christian Bhangra?

This is actually amazing.

We mix and add bhangra lyrics to a variety of different types of instrumentals and perform for numerous causes and at events. It's definitely refreshing to see this, but I don't think there's anything awkward about it! :)

I'm sure there are people out there who are like, "Who are these bhangra people using hiphop instrumentals and doing hiphop steps in their cultural dances at Vaisekhi melas?"

Somehow it just strikes me as being even weirder than the Christian Qawwali I once heard. Yeah, that was really weird.

I don't know, I know that bhangra's ostensibly secular, yet has a lot of semi-religious overtones, but somehow it just feels weird to see those less overt overtones getting replaced by really overt ones. The "one true god" line was what really sealed it for me, because it almost feels like cultural appropriation as a means of conversion. Not quite culture warfare, but it definitely takes the tropes we're used to as bhangra dancers and turns them on their head.

Plus they're not bouncing on the beat at all.

Paging Ashveer Singh... Paging Ashveer Singh.

I thought it was kind of interesting to see bhangra in this context.

But I disliked the song. Really. Disliked the song. There's thousands of other gospel songs/hymns that could have been used. WHY this song? Oh well...
