Comp Money..

Winning teams were paid out just around six months ago. Also, just to clarify, Furteelay Shokeen was compensated $550. I'm not quite sure where the figure of $200 came from.
I feel like another point needs to be made: never once was it written what the placing teams would be receiving, it was only said that placing teams would be compensated.
I hope this removes any uncertainty or confusion.

Hello Nirpal,
We did not want to bring this up in front of everyone but since this has been an ongoing thing we are forced to put this in front of everyone. As everyone was fully aware that there were a lot of damages done during the competition weekend and the main damages occured in the Hotel rooms. After the weekend eneded we as a committee had to pay an extra $1700 for the damages at the Hotel. out of the $1700 in damages $950 were from the rooms that were under NYPD's name. We have the charges in written from the hotel specifying which room had how many charges so if you want that we can provide it to you.
Now if you talk about prize money. Your prize money was $750 but we had to pay $950 for the damages. some of which includes (moving all furniture like chairs and tables from 4 rooms and putting it into the 5th room which resulted in broken chairs plus bath tubs were fillled with beer cans and liquor was spilled all over the carpet and other damages. These are just some of them. We were very excited to have you guys participate in our first ever competition but because of all the damages that occured we had to hold you prize money to cover up all the charges that occured in your rooms. Because of all these charges and because of your team's behaviour the whole weekend we as a committee decided that NYPD will not be allowed to participate in any future Motor City Bhangra Comps. We apologize as we thought we already talked to one of your team members but apparently that did not happen or else you would have not posted this post. Again if you need any proof please feel free to contact us.

MCB committee, we all understand the situation and it sucks you had to deal with it, but a better approach here would have been to simply write 'NYPD, we've spoken to one of your members about the situation. If you have any further questions or clarifications please contact us directly' and then message Nirpaal and explain in detail all the damages and why prize money was withheld. Just because you spoke to one person on the team doesn't mean everyone knows or is up to date.

the best organizations are transparent yes, but they also know when to be discreet. Just my two cents.

Really hope you are able to throw another comp and not have any issues!

Swi, you should've been part of Sin City this year too. Thought I'd see improvements from last year but heck, it was all imagination. Hope this is it, no more Sin City. But even if there is one next year, team will still apply cos it's Vegas.

While I generally agree, in this case MCB didn't come forward on their own. It took a passing comment to elicit a very detailed paragraph. Even a simple 'Your team cost more damages than the prize money awarded, so we spoke to the captains to inform them that no monetary award would be given'would have sufficed.


Just seemed overly petty to go into detail in these circumstances, but you're absolutely right that if comps don't do this more teams just get away with it. Throwing a comp is hard, $950 is an absurd amount of damage, and if that team kept sniping at me about money I'd be pissed too...

I mean we can drop the innocent act. If the committee spoke to one member of the team, then obvs this guy knows why they're not getting the money. Great thing that you called them out, though I do wish they you guys would've called them out on your own rather than spite. Anyway MCB is setting a great example as a comp. Also call out these people when shit like this happens. Not only does it clear your name, but it helps other comps when they have to decide their lineup etc..

As someone who is interested in business im surprised this is how you went about to save face. Gary, you are exactly what the bhangra community does NOT need. A self interested, money minded individual who does not care about the culture rather wants to use bhangra as an income source. Throughout the whole process you told various teams what they wanted to hear to bring them to your competition. You’re just a 40 year old snake trying to get out of paying the teams that participated in your competition.

That's cool. One quick thing, I don't believe you answered the competitions issues on how NYPD went ahead and trashed a room, and caused lots of damages that needed to be paid for. You kinda went the other way, and just accused them of sucking at life. I didn't realize trashing rooms/damaging property and showing no respect to competitions are part of the Punjabi culture. Thanks for sharing your expertise.

Ahhh, now I get it....calling someone a 40 year old money hungry whore is fun and not doing bhangra for the CULTURE is badddddddddd.

Now a more serious question comes up...for other competitions, how often are they put through the same situation? How often do they deal with disrespectful teams who damage rooms, bad mouth EVERYTHING about the organizers, and well...just don't do bhangra for the culture?! I mean, WHO DOESN'T DO BHANGRA FOR THE CULTURE?! oh wait...most teams.

I normally dont post on btf but this one really made me... @ Nav Aujla.. just to give you my background in bhangra(not that you care) because u already have imagined me in your head as a "40 year Old Snake"(Just to let you know I can say stuf back to you as well but I respect Btf and its community so I wont) but still i would like to tell nonetheless. I started of dancing for my school in India and became the captain for my team and took them to numerous competition and then I danced with Khalsa College Amritsar. I am not sure if you know ever watched that team because if you did if you will know exactly how to respect Bhangra and everything associated with it. I danced when I came to US for numerous teams and had a wonderful experience so when I said I am done dancing I just couldn't stay away from Bhangra for too long so I decided that Bhangra have given me so much (Respect from other teams whoever have met me during comps) dedication towards my passion(Bhangra) and so much more that this thread will be small if i started writing everything.
So now coming back to the main point.... I decided to finally organize a Bhangra comp to keep gets associated with something I love and then I made the decision to accept your Team for this comp. BUT you think your team can come here at my house, at my first competition, cause all those damages and still expects me to pay YOU?? um I am sorry I do not see the reason to pay your Team. Just to make it clear into your brain that I am not any businessman because if we were we would not be giving teams 2 free Hotel rooms because we knew it costs a lot for teams to pay for all those expenses and neither I would like to fight over $750... its my generosity that I didn't ask for the Trophy back from you guys for all what you have done. Plus I do not need teams like you to tell me how my competition was because I had some wonderful Teams that thinks that our committee did a great job and I am sure Btf is aware of that as well.
AT THE END ALL I WANT TO SAY THAT BEFORE YOU SAY YOU RESPECT BHANGRA PLEASE FIRST LEARN TO RESPECT EVERYONE THATS ASSOCIATED WITH IT THEN TALK. and oh btw you have my number as well so please feel free to call and I can teach you some lessons that will help you for future comps..see how nice I am..also I am 24 =)
