Good job choosing Warner. I was there last weekend for the Aziz Ansari show, and as the show was going on, I thought the venue would be great for a bhangra show.

YAY!!!
Aziz Ansari is hillarious bro haha

Awesome Promo and this year, I would love to make it there this time around.

Predicted Lineup:

Canada West: AVA Girls & PANJ Co-Ed with PCBCA in the mix
Canada East: Nachdi Jawani & SGPD
US WEST: APD & Bhangra Empire (If they accepted live teams, Heeray for sure)
US EAST: SMD Girls & VCU with Virsa in the mix..

I don't think they invite live teams unless the liv team is willing to dance to music! But not sure

Eh, not sure about all of these.

C West: most unpredictable. We have seen 3 different PANJ teams this past year, and there's a while to go before elite. Plus Jawani is making their return with Idols and Boston. I suppose it all depends on when they start choosing.

C East: NJ last performed at Elite 8 last year. Sure theyre coming to BDM, but Warriors/Shan-E are more recently relevant. I'd personally like to see Warriors get the shout. SGPD will return.

US West: APD/Empire. If they took live teams/live teams to music, I'm gonna go ahead and say VDW instead of empire (who has not competed since last Elite 8 thus far). We have NOT seen the best from heeray these days, though by no means are they washed up. Theyre just not as current, while VDW's name is on the tip of everyone's tongue when it comes to live teams. And they dance to music! :)

US East: SMD has been EVERYWHERE. coming off of a solid perf at boston you'd be hard pressed to find a more current AND successful team in the east. VCU will get the second invite. Returning champs, and still winners.

I'm gonna go ahead and post about this. There's nothing to do right now at work, soooo....now is a good time.

Canada West: I would say this is again, open ended. Not sure how you'd pick a team from here. Kush made a good point about PANJ, and the fact there's been like 3 versions of the team, they're good...but not sure if its enough for another elite 8 performance. I believe Jawani was invited last year (can't remember), and they had to turn it down. I'd like to see them in DC (it'd be fun to see them live again), and if they can do well at boston, i don't see why not. AVA girls have also stepped up last season, we'll see where everything goes.

Canada East: I figure Warriors would be invited since they win pretty much wherever they go. And I figure SGPD would get another invite. But at the same time, there are darkhorses like NYPD (they won 1st at fusion, and who knows what will happen at Boston), and might as well throw TAG in there for a solid performance at masti. We'll see what they bring to BDM. They would also need to perform more (nypd too) to get more recognition in the circuit.

US West: Might as well pick APD (they won't stop winning everywhere). Sure you may not agree with their style, but they win, that's what matters. I'm not sure about Empire, since there hasn't been much by them since last season. I wouldn't mind seeing VDW come in with their music set, they might be a good fit.

US East: VCU i would say has this locked down for their selection (they won where they competed, and they won last year's elite 8), and the other teams for US East might as well be SMD, Virsa or any other DC metro team. This is a hard category to predict, but i figure it would be between SMD (if they can win 1st at boston, then they're set) or Virsa (since they won first at most places they go to). Hard to choose, and this new season barely got started.

Either way, I'll be there.

I'm not sure why you think US East is so hard to pick, Jasmeet. I thought that was the most obvious. The Fall 2010 season has no effect on bids for Elite 8 2011. It's going to be VCU and SMD. Both have proven themselves with trophies and consistency at competitions.

VCU will be the returning champions with wins at Burgh, Blowout, Elite and 3rd place at BBC last year. Consistent. SMD competed consistently and placed consistently with a recent trophy at BAB.

Virsa didn't compete as much as SMD... and "they won first at most places they go to"? Where did this happen?

I think you're forgetting Jasmeet that last year's Fall season had no impact on Elite 8 2010 bids. In fact most of the bids were given to teams privately before some of these huge Fall competitions. It's not about just winning 1 competition. It seems that Elite 8 favours those who have left their mark on the circuit by competing often and placing consistently.

My argument for Empire is that while they didn't do much last season in terms of competitions, they went BIG in terms of doing a performance at the white house and a performance at America's Got Talent. It's stuff like that that promotes bhangra to the general public in a way that even the most successful teams in the circuit can't do.

The rest of my predictions:

US EAST: VCU, SMD
US WEST: APD, EMPIRE
CA EAST: SGPD, NJ
CA WEST: PCBCA, AVA GIRLS

All good points, but then how does PCBCA make it into your list? and how does NJ? PCBCA has competed yes, but i dont recall placings or LOTS of performances (though they are good, don't get me wrong). And NJ hasn't competed since last elite 8. As the slogan says... "What makes them ELITE"... well as of last elite 8, NOTHING makes NJ elite, strictly speaking. Yet overall i still think Canada West is the least predictable because we haven't seen alot come out of there. PANJ, in my opinion, is still the front runner, however because they just have a few recognized performances: All Guys at VIBC, COED at Jashan, and All Girls at Bruin.

I agree with you, US East seems to be the easiest pick but its not clear cut. Virsa had a tremendous season. they placed first at Fever i believe, second at Bayside, and third at masti. A VERY respectable performance. SMD has placings at Fever, VIBC, BAB off the top of my head, plus more performances. I guess its a tough pick to decide which is better, more competitions with a lesser placing ratio, or less competitions but constant placing. VCU is a sure bet. To not invite last years elite, even if they were subpar afterwards (NOT the case with VCU) is sinful.

U.S. west is probably APD/Empire, for all the points previously stated.

Anyways, thats all i really think/have to say until we start getting our once a week videos. Looking forward to it.
