Awsome Weekend. Didnt get to watch all of the teams so cant give a complete review.

VCU- same routine, simple , clean

SGPD- energetic, clean, folk

NJ- creative, messy

Everyone values, energy, creativity and being clean in different rankings.

-Nachdis routine will change the course of bhangra, they have showed us that over and over again

-SGPD energy, being folk and clean is what they are, they have showed us that over and over again

-vcu- finds a routine that work and kills it for a whole season, and they have showed us that over and over again


-Do you believe creativity and thinking outside the box should be ranked higher then being clean?
-Should being folk be ranked higher then being creative b/c actual bhangra is being done?
-Should you stay simple and safe ?

In my eyes those are the differences between the 3 teams.

They dont have the same style, these teams only compete against themselves at every comp, so how can you say whos better if what they value in their routines in different?

No Canadian bias in this post what-so-ever...

Being clean should always carry more weight than being creative/thinking outside the box... You can't be sloppy on stage PERIOD...

Being folk vs. being creative, so you basically just said folk bhangra is boring... Thank you...

I think you can be simple and still creative without going overboard... There's a fine line...

and no Nachdi did not just change the bhangra landscape, I'm not even sure how much bhangra there was in their routine... Time to take the Canadian sun glasses off...

And yes they did change bhangra with their idols set the leaning jugnee, and with the vibc set and once this set is out in MY Opinon it will change bhangra again.

And I did not say being folk is boring..sgpd brought out a whole new style of bhangra 2 years ago by doing folk the way they do

Raju johal is the MAN and i respect him like no other - have always been a big fan and i was singin' his famous "assi LBC de much phut gabru, mela boston da lutke le jaanaaaa" all weekend just for no reason its just catchy hahaha. i totally agree, but the only thing i take exception to is the word "only" let us not forget RickyyJATTTT as well he is a sick dholi and singer as we saw this weekend, and has danced many a time, holdin' it downnn. But overall ur right we have many double threats like dancer/dholis such as gagandholi, nana the dholi, jasraj and dj dholE i believe as well but not as many triples. So props to Ricky and Raju for being diligent students of the Bhangra Arts! The force is strong in them!

it was awesome to finally meet u and i also love what u just wrote - the spirit of bhangra must go on!!! and i did see it a lot this weekend.

at one point in the wings of stage something made me almost cry tears of joy, i saw/heard 3 guys in NJ sweatshirts go up to another 2 guys in NJ sweatshirts - I KID YOU NOT they were saying "yo empire is dirrrrtyyyy yo" next guy says "sick yo" and after that another says "yea yo empire is killlin it they did this thing with their phumnia" and i waited a couple seconds (sorry for my prejudice but i couldnt believe my ears - not a judgment on NJs sportsmanship or anything but this was just my preconceived notions from reading these forums, not based on anything substantial as i have barely interacted with anyone from NJ in my life so pls forgive me it was just my preconceived notion...i had not anticipated such a warm response. but it only confirmed what i would only expect which is: great sportsmanship from such a legendary team) to check if they were gonna say "NOT!" or some sarcastic ending to their comments, but they DIDNT!!! no laughing, nothing, it seemed sincere. So i waited and waited and then continued walking with a warm feeling in my heart. ah, yes, balance is restored to the force!


maybe i didnt witness it, but from what i saw all teams hung out and were very chordial even at afterparty and the after-after party in the hallways of Holiday Inn. no problems or panga or whatnot. bravo!

That is sick. Great Sportsmanship.

Also, I find it ironic how ppl on here have came and said Rummaals are so outdated, lame, and from the '00-'04 era etc etc and some have even hated on Raas (idk why it's actually pretty fun to watch). Yet NJ did it and it's the sickest shit ever now. Props to you guys pulling it off so nicely! Not many teams would get that kinda love for that!

It's Dankara when bhangra teams do it... But Raas when others do it... Dislike for raas runs deep in this forum, but it's OK because Nachdi did it and all of a sudden "raas" is actually some form of traditional bhangra set...

Dandiyas are used all over india, different regions have different makes for them so you are right about that much, but it didnt become bhangra because NJ did it, it became bhangra because punjabis did it in punjab hundred of years ago. NJ was just the first team to showcase the way they are used in punjab.

and yes raas deserves its credit too because its an amazing gujurati art form, but what NJ did did not come from that.

LOL...no oxymoron here...there's no beef at all. I spoke with some cats from Empire about this whole beef thing and we squashed it! At the end of the day it's all Bhangra and that's what it should be about. Just because I have an opinion about how things should have/could have turned out in the past doesn't mean anything, because it didn't stop Empire from doing what they do best...destroying competitions straight up...and that's how I (as a competitor) would want it
