Name: Fusion Royale
Date: October 18
Organizer(s): Gotham Productions
Venue: Tribeca Performing Arts Center, New York
Type: Half Fusion/Half Bhangra

The venue opened up at 11:02 am. The teams were guided to their dressing rooms. Breakfast was served from 11:16 am to 12:14 pm (Dunking Donuts - donuts and coffee). The stage rehearsals were on time (12:35 pm to 3:53 pm). From 4 pm to 5:02 pm, they served lunch (Dominos - pizza and soda).

Amazing organization; one organizer kept on repeatedly going to the teams and saying "Any questions, concerns or complaints?" (lol). They were on top of their stuff; a huge staff.

The show started at 7:17 pm. The host was parvez miah (outgoing stage personality and definitely entertaining). A lot of shout-outs were made to the sponsors.

They had a lot of security and EVEN ushers this time (lol). No fights or hostility. The show ended at 9:57 pm.

This show was definitely WAY BETTER than Bhangra Royale. They had a huge staff. Everything was on time. They had breakfast, lunch and a table with lots of water.

The order of the show was:

Naya Dance bollywood dance (Exhibition)
Bollywood Performing arts (Exhibition)
Lehigh University Bhangra
Boston University Chankaar
Cornell Kudiyan
Hunter Jalan
Intermission (12 minutes)
Shaan Mutiyaaran Di Bhangra
CUNY Wanted Ashiqz
Anakh-E-Gabroo
Binghamton Masti
Naya Dance semi-classical dance (Exhibition)

Good luck gotham productions on their future shows.

My overall rating: 8.5/10

wow, even I wasn't paying that close enough attention to the times.

Also, AEG was right after SMD, and Wanted Ashiqz followed. Not that it really matters, but Wanted was sadly the only performance I was actually able to watch.

Liaisons were really nice-very helpful! They, along with the organizers, were always there if we had any questions, concerns, or random boli sessions. If anything I would have served breakfast and lunch an hour later to the dancers because by the time the show started we were all starving.

Overall, I agree-everything was smooth as butter. Good job Gotham Productions-very big upgrade from Bhangra Royale. Keep up the good work.

To all of the teams-it was an honor sharing the stage with you. Congrats to Cornell Kudiyan (I'm hoping that I spelled that right...) for a job well done. And in regards to AEG, I'm blessed to have great leaders and awesome teammates.

... And this sentimental moment ends right... now.

Payce!

I am an independent film maker. I came to the venue at the same time the organizers had invited all the other teams. However Tribeca didn?t allow me to set up inside the theater till 5:02 pm, so, I had plenty of time to wait around and spend time with the teams. We did a singing session with the dhol.

I have the entire show recorded on video and I am currently in the process of editing it. Since fusion royale didn?t officially hire me to record the event, there were other videographers present at this event (such as ITV). However, I plan to sell the DVDs to compensate me for my time spent at Tribeca. Please message me know if anyone is interested in buying a copy of the show.

Hello Everyone,

I am one of the organizers of Fusion Royale. The event was a huge success, Security was on point, the teams had fun.

Congrats to all of the teams that won! Overall the feedback from the teams is that the competition was a solid one. I hope the success of this event serves as an example for future New York competitions.

Gotham Productions website says Bhangra Royale II will be in March 2009. Lookin' forward to it.

Congrats to all the fusion teams and AEG! AEG was sick (new vardiyaan were hot). They were really creative so it was refreshing to see that, and they had a great mix.

The Wanted Aashiqz were actually really funny/quirky and entertaining. They had like a whole Dark Knight theme going which went over pretty well, and they did some acrobatic stunts. They did classic songs like "My name is Lakhan" and so on so it was great.

Fusion royale was a great competition. The organizers were nice, even to me. They got the teams food and water. Our liason even ordered pizza for us, props to him. the show ran on time for the most part and so did the run throughs. The competition was run by guys who actually enjoyed bhangra so that was an awesome help. shouts to kevin and google singh for the boli sessions. the security was o.d. overall it was a million times better than bhangra royale and i think the guys learned their lessons from last time. i recommend that teams definitely apply to bhangra royale in the spring. it's safe to come back to nyc everyone.

on to the judges.

deplorable is the only word i can think of.

pashi singh was the only one who actually spoke to the team afterwards, and showed us our score sheets. he was very helpful and his comments were great.

on to the other two.

Amandeep Singh and Ajay Kataria, it is alleged, refused to speak to the teams, and actually ducked out early to avoid us. these two guys have judged a lot of competitions and have been professional in the past, but this time around, this was not the case. i feel that amandeep is a little out of touch with the current status of bhangra choreo and the direction it has taken. ajay, apparently has a strong background in traditional bhangra so i will not assume he does not know what he is doing. Although he did dance for NYU, a very modern team.

i believe that competitions should stop picking at least Amandeep as the default judge at competitions (burgh, boston). It is unfair to teams and the way they disappeared after royale was disrespectful. Teams going to burgh and boston, beware of shitty judging.

this is in no way any kind of crying about the placings at royale, but it is a protest to the way the judges carried themselves.

end transmission.

If they won Faizan's endorsement (their biggest critic), then you KNOW it's legit.

Can someone that was there give a review of the competition, with individual team performances, etc?

Good job at a very organized run competition!

P.s-Which organizer was it that wanted a cut out of the donations for the flood victims?
