Absolutely keep it an exhibition man. Don't need any more competitions... just good, quality shows with people who are there to enjoy bhangra... not win.
How many teams really go to competitions just to be an exhibition act? Like there are some teams that are willing to but, not all teams want to come across the country just to participate in something they can't place in. I mean I know Steel City were exhibition at bayside which was amazing. Although, it would help those teams in the circuit who are trying to get in the bhangra scene. It would be really hot if every team performed but doubt that will happen lol

I was assuming there would be some honorarium or at least some covering of travel costs. We've run Pao for 10 years under the same model and we've found that if you treat teams well, and pack a venue with people who are excited to watch bhangra, the teams will come. The friendly/almost collaborative atmosphere that is created with exhibition shows simply cannot be recreated with competitions.

I've been thinking about how many teams would fit this scheme and how much the honorarium would be. The numbers have to be worked out, but I have to be honest and transparent with the community; between 500 and 600 is probably the under over mark. In order to be as successful as Pao, this will have to build small and work up.

Again, this is all speculation. I want to make sure that our community BTF benefits from this as much as the Appalachian population too. The bulk of the profit goes to serving them!

In any case, keep voting!

What a great idea Nikhil! Not only will it give back to the community but provide a fun weekend for the teams and bhangra lovers. We definitely need more exhibitions in the circuit so teams can get creative with their routines and take "risks" that they normally wouldn't due to the constraints of a competition. DMV has a lot of talent and getting all those teams under one roof would be insane! I'm all for it!!!

You should do it like at the end of summer before school starts, and if you want to make it more of an exhibition event, I would suggest still having a first place like BDM did that has slightly more prize money. From what I heard, this kept the competitive spirit somewhat alive along with the overall "brotherhood/sisterhood" feeling as well.

:)
