Hi everybody, for those of you who don't know me, my name is Shiv(Shivjot Rangi), and I'm thinking about wanted to get sheesham dhol at Jagjit Textile & Fabrics(99 Kennedy Road South[Brampton]) or at Kala Kendar(1440 Gerrard Street East[Toronto])

what do you guys think? if not, is there any other way to get sheesham dhol?

and i also want outer rim to be 12.5" to have 13" Remo Ebony Ambassador or Remo Clear Diplomat

don`t go to either. get it from india
+1 on this.. the best quality dhols you can get are from india. And you could wait until you go to india to get a dhol or if you know anyone that is going/coming back, you could give em a little bit of money to bring it for you? Tell them to ask people there from where to get it from, depending on where you or they go. If you want to get a dhol to learn it (if you're a beginner), then give a 100 bucks or so and get a cheap one from sabzi mandi or something to practice and learn on in the meantime, and then when you get a chance to go to india, get a top of the line ustad one. That's what i did; i got a cheap one from india when i went and practiced on that. when i got good at it, i got an ustad one made and shipped over here from my mama ji in india.

I'd say dont shop online for a dhol. seeing it and testing the sound in person is much better than buying it online. The only exception i can see is that if your friend or someone ordered one online and you've heard how it sounds and you get the same one, but other than that, buying it in person or getting someone to get it made for u from india is the best option

I always wanted to see it and test the sound in person rather than buying it online, talk about pros and cons. And I was about to say inspect any dhols(without any problems) and test it before buying it

i was also about to say that it's kinda hard to get sheesham dhol from india, when I'm in Jagjit Textile & Fabrics, I saw kachi pakki talli that has mustard oil on the outside(wood), i believe it's masala in the inside(wood not goatskin), cross roped by tightening away from dagga side, 11 lugs(nuts & bolts), and 2 belt locks for strap(can't explain), etc.. I should first inspect the dhol, test the sound, then decide to buy it or not.

sorry guys, i couldn't help explaining it! :( :-[

meh I stay away from bazari looking drums...like ones that are tightened away from dagga, and honestly I highly doubt its been treated with masala or else you could stink up like half the store

that was before in Christmas 2010 that my sister got me an amb dhol with brown colour(paint i believe) on the outside at Madhvi Musical & Pooja Centre and that's the dhol that i currently have right now, i wanted to substitute by putting remo but i can't do that due to a 13.4" GBC (12.9" outer rim for tilli side) and 13.5" goatskin without masala(13.0" outer rim for dagga side)

and stink up like half the store? i need febreze air freshener lol

here's my video(amb wood dhol that i currently have):
Shivjot Rangi playing the dhol again

meh the drums are too expensive...not worth it in my opinion. all you gotta look for is this one dholi who has given up on dhol ( this dude has a tdf straight dhol in malton if you want it I can send you his facebook but even his drum is a bit too expensive lol)
