Some people just are ashamed to speak real punjabi, cuz they think they are cool?? Well some people dont have good background so they try to be funny spekaing some of the punjabi or they cant proonounce it right. My cousing used to call rajmah-maharaj haha. Thats why its always parents fault who doesn't teach their kids how to speak proper punjabi and values of the culture. Dont call yourself PUNJABI, if you are ashamed to speak PUNJABI. She is right about Baksua, dwana, and one most of all i have heard saying lot of people BHAGRA, DOLL, i call it fancy punjabi.

OO yaara, har ilaake di boli different aa. ehde vich kisey di nahi galti ki oh kiddan word nu "pronounce" karda ja kardi aa. Let me use myself as an example, cough cough, ahem...i'm from Doaba N' if i talk to folks that are from Malwa or Majha, its somewhat different but not the same. They use words that i've never heard before but that don't mean they are wrong. If we listen to punjabi from Pakistan, its totally different, they probably have their own punjabi dictionary, idk. "Jeh koi punjabi bolan di koshish karda aa, ohnu bol lain dayo. Let's not get all butthurt!!!" Ajj kal di generation punjabi ghatt e bolde aa.

*Mere ik dost di saheli, kadey punjabi nahi boldi and she call herself punjabi. If i talk to her in punjabi, she would call me a "fob" lmao. N' just cos i do bhangra, she calls me a "fob". Kar layo gall. Patandar da eh zamaana aa gaya aa. (talking in punjabi or doing bhangra doesn't make you a fob)

I been in Cali since 98 and i still speak punjabi, no matter what. Punjabi bolan da nazaara e hor aa. But I know people that are ashamed of speaking punjabi jus cos they think they are so kool. lol. kool your freaking ass. To be a Punjabi, you gotta be able to speak and understand punjabi. Don't just go on calling yourself punjabi, just cos you were born a Punjabi.

All i'm trying to say is that it shouldn't matter how such words are pronounced. Har ik ikaale da apna bolan da style aa, unha deh apne words aa. As long as they are speaking punjabi its all good. N' i'm not saying " just curse in punjabi, but actually have an actual conversation in punjabi" lol

I certainly call it Bucksua and Hadwana.. Never heard anyone refer to Watermelon as Matira though!! Perhaps, Majha/Malwa slang??

My parents are from Patiala and say Hadwana , so not sure if it's a Malwa thing..

OooO and lechian are called Cardamom, sonf is called fennel seeds in english.. I dont know what the candy coated sonf would be called.. but essentially I guess the same.



All in all Punjabi is a difficult language because there are literally words for every little difference in an object.. ghara, ghadoli, gaagar.. I'd just call them all water pots..
