Hello Everyone,

How is everyone? First off I wanted to say thank you to everyone who has kept in touch with me, and those that have been sending me email’s, asking how I am doing and so forth. It has been a while, yes I know. It’s good to see BTF still going strong, even though it is definitely not my scene, I happy for the people behind it nonetheless. Since I had so many emails from my friends back on BTF, I just wanted say hi and give an update. No worries I won’t be posting on BTF again.

The reason I had left BTF is because my father was ill. He has passed on, and I am devastated and still can’t comprehend it. I am sure everyone has lost someone, and they know what it is like. I kept in touch with a few of you guys, and I wanted, again, to thank everyone for their well wishes.

After my father passed, I decided to move back to India, permanently, to be with my mother and my siblings. I have moved away from the US/Canada. Personally, I will be starting my Law/ Ph.D (Department of Political Science) in Panjab University (Chandigarh) starting in September, where I expect my family to join me. Upon completion, I will be working, in an amazing position, with the UNDP- India,The United Nations Development Programme, which I hope one day will launch me towards international relations under India with the UN.

I was asked by a BTF member why I decided to stay in India. In addition to my family situation, you guys know, I was not at home in Canada/US. I was often critical, and when I got to the core of why I was critical, it was because… I couldn’t identify with the reduced identity. So, I am now home, my real home and I am for the most part happy with the direction I heading in. Panjab University is a great school, I will be working under some great professors, who are extremely respected throughout India, and have taken me under their wings. Hopefully I can follow in their footsteps and become a constructive member of the UN team.

Other than that, what can I say? BTF/ POL was a weird time in my life. It was a good place to debate, but the way I explained my views overshadowed the validity of them. I wish I could say I have changed, but you know… I still emplore everyone to do their duty, and realize what we owe to ourselves.

I hope everyone is doing well, and thanks again for all the best wishes. Please do keep in contact… I won't reply to this thread, but I will check it to see everyone's response. If you guys could, please include your emails. Whenever you guys come to India, hopefully we can meet up, I would love it.

Best wishes,
Summinder Singh Dhaliwal

Sorry to hear about your father. May he rest in peace!

That is great your studying and living in India.

But i still hope you come here and still post because it's becoming really stupid again.

I think no matter what you might have represented or what people might have thought of you before, this just validated in my mind that although I might not agree with you or your views, you are someone I admire for your studious nature, but also because of how you stayed true to yourself. Of everyone during the POL/BTF timeline, you will be the most remembered, not only for your independent thought, but how you strove to make a difference.

Bonne Chance

I am sorry as well. It is hard and going back was a great choice, a mother will always need her son.
Best of luck. Like others have said its not the same.

Did I mention that you are lucky because you get cheap street food? That is awesome.
