Waaris Punjab De had some really nice vardiyaan at AVAP.

GTA's rainbow chadras are nice, haha they're memorable

Yale has the best co-ed vardiyaan. Their turlas look tite.

Same colored vardiyaan are slowly but surely getting phased. I don't know, there is something about everyone wearing the same colors that looks pretty nice as well. Teams like Columbia,DRP,BMW haven't converted to multicolored vardiyaan since they need all the same colors to have a greater impact (with their massive/intricate formations)

I was really impressed with SGPD's at AVAP. They had a tie dye effect goin on their chadras and their turlas...that combined with RED contact lenses for one of their boys in red...haha that looked sick.

GS had great color combination but their vests were so small. At first I assumed, as usual GS was probably on top of their game and small vests was a new up & coming trend that teams in India were adopting but that really never happened.

Can someone educate me about the small vest phenomenon? Is it a GS thang?

I'm a big fan of uniform vardiyan, it adds a greater sense of coordination and adds a memorable flavour to the team. It seems as more and more teams opt for the colorful costumes, it becomes harder and harder to identify a team by their colors. Some of my favorite vardiyan have been MSU, Gator and Columbia's new scheme.

I heard United Bhangra had really intricate and really fancy vardiyan but they got washed out on stage. That sucks.

I'm not a van of same colour varidiyan. I've worked with both Same colour and Jori's (coloured pairs). Here are the 2 differences I see.
1) Obviously the stage is more colourful
2) Complexity of formations & Transitions - This is something that I have found to be more difficult yet more enjoyable while making a set for Jori's. It is much easier to work with formations while having the entire team wearing the same colours, where as, with jori's the transition must work out along with where the jori's are places on stage. You can have the jori's who stay side by side, or who are on opposite ends of the stage. It's a little hard to explain. It may make more sense with pictures, but that would take too long... so I hope that made sense. lol

As for the small vests, one of our team members went to India recently and orders some new suits. He found out that the reasoning behind the small vest is because the material would fold where the vest meets. Nachdi Jawani also had small vests at Idols and the India team that competed at Bhangra Nation this past year did aswell. I dont think its a GS thing. lol

to add on to what vic pointed out, formations really pop out when you have joris going on. we lost points at royale (aside from being horribly uncoordinated, but thats what you get for having only 4 hours of team practice before a competition ;D) for our uniforms being the same color, and one of the judging comments was "get new uniforms to make formations stand out". it is more complex to choreograph to ensure that the joris match up and it doesnt just become a big mess on stage, but it a sign of skill when pulling it off. and for kinnel, just because a team doesnt have the school colors anymore, doesnt mean they cant have a distinct uniform; sgpd's laffy taffy (as i call them, because i love them) uniforms will be forever remembered and associated with them, and any team that copies them (and there will be some) will get ragged on forever for being unoriginal. also, i dont think anyone has mentioned them, but sher foundations new uniforms are INCREDIBLE.

I think multicolored works well for single sex teams since it adds a little oomph. Coed teams I'm starting to like same colors more, just because almost every coed team seems to have the same set of multicolored vardiyaan. Also, coed teams already mix it up by having different guys/girls sets.

Here are our guys in our vardiyaan...

I have to say different colors are a MUST because they give so much more meaning to your formations and jodis.

Here's a picture of the vardiyaan Columbia University just got. I think they are pretty nice. The only other teams I know with kurte like theirs (sparkly and junk) is Waris Punjab De and Gabroo Shokeen I think.... Correct me if I'm wrong.
