Ok so I read this whole post and I agree with Karan. Teams like unc and Bhangra empire do Bhangra but most of the time their gimmick has nothing to do with Bhangra. If u disagree please tell me how a marching band had anything to do with Bhangra.Teams like Sgpd virsa Aeg nj nypd etc do Bhangra and gimmicks yet everything works out fine cus their gimmicks are Bhangra related. Also no one is sexist or calling out coed teams. The performance with Aeg and Smd collaboration was amazing and one of the best sets I've seen.
95% of UNC's set last year was a pretty "folk" set, more traditional and less gimmicky than performances done by SGPD, AEG, NJ, NYPD..etc. If anything, I'd think you would be arguing for teams to follow in their style and execution. All of the teams you mentioned are creative and integrate variations, gimmicks consistently within and throughout their choreography and performance, which is way less "folk" than the safer, cleaner performance by UNC. The marching band gimmick was a small part of UNC's entire routine and to me, plays tribute to traditional, live instruments bhangra with a modern day metaphor.
And to say that all those teams only perform "bhangra related gimmicks" is not only hilarious but insulting to their creativity and the risks they took to try something different and new. How do the Spartans play into bhangra? And the "Shawshank Redemption theme of SGPD"? Popping balloons? Jabberwockeez? Hiphop gimmicks? Yo-yo's? If your argument is that these teams were "dancing" while doing these gimmicks, then did you forget that Bhangra Empire's dholi was playing while coming down from the ceiling? That UNC was dancing to the marching band playing similar to how live teams dance to their musical troupes?
