lol no that's not what I meant. of course skinny people lift, no one walks into a gym deezed... I was saying that he's not putting enough into his body to keep up with his current activities. With his eating habits and activities, weight training wouldn't add much mass.Jaideep said:Amanpaul said:Haha yea I noticed that too...GSingh said:hain?
Honestly it's not just the age thing but you are really thin... You shouldn't start lifting yet, all you need to do is eat. It's obvious you're not consuming enough already to meet your caloric needs while doing both bhangra and basketball. If you add weights to the mix you will get a little stronger but will add no mass with your eating habits and activities.
Focus on one thing right now, get to a decent size for bhangra and basketball.
lol so you're saying he shouldnt start lifting because he is too thin? that doesnt make any sense. that is the reason pple start lifting, because they dont want to be thin anymore. how will he put on muscle if he doesnt lift?
EDIT: accidentally wrote "life" at the end instead of "lift" haha
Weight training would add a significant amount to his body mass. The first four weeks of weight training will result in a neurological hypertrophic growth pattern that allows for an increase in motor unit size. The more muscle fibers that can tack onto 1 given motor nerve, the bigger the muscle, the greater the force/velocity of the movement of that muscle = evidence that weight training is significant.Amanpaul said:lol no that's not what I meant. of course skinny people lift, no one walks into a gym deezed... Gastrointestinal stress will result after a sudden increase in food intake but the way he proportions his macros and his plan of action when increasing his caloric intake has a large part to do with how his body will respond. If he takes the right approach for both conditions, I think a negative alimentary and endocrine response can easily be averted.Nikhil said:Regarding growth plate fusion; the end growth plates stay open for a range of ages through what is considered puberty. Unless you have an underlying pathological condition that will affect the health of the growth plate in proportion to the actual shaft of the bone, you CAN weight lift at this age. Gurbir is legit haha.
Also, the kid is 14...fast metabolism anyone? He's thin b/c he's playing basketball everyday probably and he's young! Eating more than you should is going to induce a lot of gastrointestinal stress, so lil' homey should eat smart.

Not to be a jackass, but telling a 14 year old kid to eat a whole shit load IS HOW YOU DEVELOP CHRONIC DISEASES down the line. Please, do not drink whole milk. 2 percent will suffice. Someone mentioned something about not lifting at all. No, that's too extreme. What you need to do is strength train against resistance or weight that is proportional to your body weight (i.e., Pushups, Pullups, and squats). Yes, you definitely do need to have a positive caloric intake, but don't over eat! This will make your bball stamina deteriorate because you will have excess weight that you need to run with. The goal is to maintain your cardiovascular fitness at your young age while improving your strength for your skill position! What position do you play currently?
Okay, you have to understand that being desi means we are predisposed to certain genetic factors having to do with our diet and how we utilize what we eat. You know that we cook with a lot of ghee, and a lot of extra stuff that we should eat. North Indian/Gujarati/Punjabi food is NOT healthy in general. So, to encourage whole milk consumption is a bad idea in my opinion. Sure you get your fat soluble vitamins, but you get a whole lot of fat and cholesterol with it too.itsG said:Nikhil said:I'm really curious to know how many of you are certified or have degrees in Exercise Science/Physiology and Nutrition?

chill.....whole milk all the way...honestly throughout my whole life i've had 2 percent for i think 2 days and yes there have been days when i drink a gallon a day.
kid look some people are just skinny..especially if they have genes from a parent thats skinny (usually the mom...like i do) being skinny doesnt mean your not as strong as the other person..and yea im sure every aunty/uncle/dada/dadi see's u and goes "putt roti nahi mildi" and all that B.S. but thats cuz they just dont understand. Im skinny and not like ur avg skinny i mean skinny like i could use a few pounds too but honestly my workout partner looks twice as huge as me but i lift more when we're at the gym so size doesn't always tell the truth you might have alot less body fat than the avg. person and no aunty/uncle/dada/dadi is gonna sit there and understand that
and yea pushups/pullups help (do pullups) pushups are just gonna kinda get you a bit size on your chest and get you cut. u dont want manboobs or a chest that stretches your shirt but then your abs dont fit so focus on pullups or just chinups for now not even pullups cuz you dont need lats just arms at first.
Brospeh, he has more chances for chronic diseases if he doesn't fix his weight problem right now. I don't think anyone is advocating for him to eat like a horse for the rest of his life but he needs a huge caloric surplus if he wants to gain any appreciable body mass. I don't think it will lead to any significant long term health problems if he drinks lots of whole milk and eats like a madman to make up for all the calories he is burning doing bball, bhangra or whatever. Whole milk gets a bad rap from diet people and people in the media but its a red herring and there are other factors much more important for considering stuff like cardiovascular health. I had my bloodwork tested since I switched to whole milk last year and my levels came back fine and better than usual. I know that is an n=1 example but just some food for thought.Nikhil said:I'm really curious to know how many of you are certified or have degrees in Exercise Science/Physiology and Nutrition?
