Hey Bruah,
yeah i have family in Amdavad right now. The city is pretty big and the attacks were in the old part of the city. Luckily my family is 20 minutes away from that in New City so they are safe.

Lavanya is in Bangalore, and she was not too far from the bombs there too. She's alright though, so I'm very thankful she's safe!

"terrorist are f******"
"Stupid violence..."

Wow. Great insight.

I just posted this, but Amardeep Singh's book on Secularism in India actually has a huge part of it dealing with the hindu/ muslim rift in Gujarat.

Found this quote extremely problematic: "Most important thing today... is to see that the peace and tranquillity in Gujarat is not disturbed, or peace and tranquillity in any part of the country is not disturbed"

Not sure how many people would agree with that. Even though violence has decrease in Gujrat in the last couple of years, disnfranchisement of different religions, especially the muslims continues. I think the Indian government dropped the ball on how they treated many muslims who fled the area after the 2002 violence. I think the government seemed to take a harsher stance after that Train burning that seemed to spark the conflict there.

"land of Mahatma Gandhi has been bloodied by terrorists whom we shall not spare".

"Terrorists are waging a war against India. We should be prepared for a long battle against terrorism,"

So centric, and sad to hear. I dont know why BBC choose to print those comments trying to insinuate something, but public officials need to stop taking sides. The land of Gandhi, wow... Not taking sides either, because I think those who took the protests to another level by killing those innocent hindus on that bus were insane, but claiming that terrorists are waging war against India might undermine many muslims who are treated in Gujarat as second class citizens in their homeland as well.

Just because there has been calm, doesnt mean there hasnt been any bad done. Its way too simplistic, and the quotes and article make me feel like people are ignorant to the on-going issues in Gujarat.

There is a documentary 'Final Solution' on what caused the riots in Gujarat and what took place during those terrible days. It examines the propaganda machine that was employed to convert ordinary citizens in to murderers and looters. It is sad to see the after effects of 2002 can be felt today and that the innocent civilians are the ones who are paying the price.

Waleed, I saw that movie. Amazing, mind-numbing. This Ram Mandir is just the dumbest controversy ever. If we want to believe as God the Almighty, then people need to realize that the God can exist with or without a mandir. God lives in the hearts of the pure and true, not in a masjid, gurdwara, or mandir.

oh, and without over-politicizing the tragedy, this is just straight sad. I would hate to see a backlash against innocent Muslims occur, which would only lead to bloodshed on both sides.
