Arrange marriage...

1- Parents find you a girl whose from a nice family, they do their research before finding you a nice girl.

3-4 of my cousins were arranged marriage, however once they chose who they wanted to get married to, they dated them...if it didn't work out, they didn't get married. It's an advantage for me because i don't have to find random girls and not know about where, how their family is and other things about the girl, it's already taken care of, all i have to do is just choose which one i want to get married to.

Even though girls over here are said to be very "out going", however there are girls who still are not "out going".
Same thing in India, there are girls who are very "out going" since the western culture hit India, its wild. But there are still girls who are not "out going".

I was in India in June, it's wild haha

I actually feel that people in India are more wild than we are. They try wayyyyy too hard to adapt to the western culture that they just end up looking like posers. Thats really what they are; posers. Ok, most of them. Im sure theres that token guy or girl thats not trying to be us. Here, I feel like theres a good balance where you've grown up here but you still stay connected to your roots. I think that if you're born here, you should find someone from here or else theres a difference of night and day if you go steady with someone from the motherland. Not too fond of arranged marriages either. Haha come on, this isnt old school india where you're not allowed to be seen with a girl. Just my opinion though.

but jabar, sure its an advantage that ok u kno the background bout the person but isn't that like i dunno!!!! that defeats the whole purpose of developing a relationship....i mean if u don't really care about learning about this person's life and their past and all yourself and rather just have ur parents figure it out and make sure its all good....then wats the purpose??? the whole point of a relationship is to learn about people and that doesnt even matter whether its ur spouse, or a family member, or a friend- if u dont take time to learn about them then u dont know anything about them....wat if ur parents chose a bunch of people u cud be friends w/? then u decided which 1/ones u wanted as ur best friend(s)----now thats a superficial relationship...and if u dont kno bout that person then how cud u ever live w/them? and how wud u kno how they act and respond to things and omgggg i cud just go on bout this situation.....so my point, sure its an advantage and it takes out the time and hassle of having to find some1, making sure ur parents approve....but wheres the challenge?????? i mean its the obstacles u have to go through that make the relationship last (I shud write a book even thoug i dont kno wtf im saying)

and meistro i agreee, indian people are just annoying!!! they need to stop tryin to be like us and show some more pride in the identity they have and since their indian they shudnt try to change that

I was born and raised in the states...but i still live in a society where this rule holds and i agree that it's very annoying at some times. Some people still find the idea of a platonic relationship between a guy/girl impossible...

but i can also say that this view is slowly withering away...so that's a good thing...

I say do whatever you are down with! I mean I would rather have a Love marriage but that doesnt mean all arranged marriages are superficial! my parents had an arranged marriage and it has been anything but superficial...they have had a very happy and loving life together!!! If I found a partner who was anywhere near as perfect as my mum n dad are for each other...i would be down for arranged marriage! Arranged marriages wouldnt be so common and existant in so many diverse cultures if they were fake or didnt work...its how u see it, and who u end up with! lol

As far as FOBers in India tryin to be all modern and all, just like we're not all loose and druggies, theyre not all bad either. We have just as much responsibilty to keep our culture alive as they do back in the motherland! Just because they live there doesnt mean they should stop trying to be like "us" and we should start being like "them", we are all indian, whether we live abroad or in India, we should still represent ourselves well...ANNNNDDD thats my 2 cents! :)

I'm scared what my parents might think if I don't have arrange marriage...
But I myself would prefer arrange marriage because all the people I know that have had arrange marriage haven't had many problems with their relationship, i.e divorce.

I never said anything about building a relationship with your spouse or anything, i just said about the family and i also said my cousin's dated them, so i guess they built a relationship first and then they got married. tubelight haha

Great topic! I think in this day and age it is really hard to find a suitable man/woman that will inheritably have the same qualities as you and or what your parents are looking for. For me being a girl finding a guy was a difficult task not because it?s hard to find someone but just in terms of finding someone that is good enough for my family. I have very strong moral believes- yes, I go out party it up with my friends but that?s where I draw the line. I don't randomly hook up with guys or get drunk just for the sake of drinking. For me I want a guy that will respect and love my family like it?s his own-and in the same token I would do the same for his. My family is a dime piece they're amazing and would treat anyone like their own...but its hard to find people that actually realize that a marriage is between two families.

Marriage I believe has changed a lot in the last decade it has now become a fashion statement on how extravagant the wedding/reception can be. BUT, when you're walking those four laps (at least for myself) those "vows" we're taking together mean so much its insane. I don't think 1/2 of the people who are getting married today actually understand what is being said. It?s about everything else which is all great that?s what makes weddings enjoyable. I just feel the institution of marriage has changed and finding a person that believes in the same values is a difficult task. Especially being born and raised here someone in India won't be able to catch on to my lifestyle -I'm fast like a nascar and he would hold me down. And guys here just don't seem to get it... anyway those are my thoughts. Perhaps I'm way too old school...

Luckly, my parents haven?t forced anyone on me and they?re very liberal on finding someone on my own or if need be having them find someone for me. I think them finding someone takes all the pressure off of me and if things don?t work out?I can always blame them! ;D
