Guys/ Girls....if you are born or grew up in the US/ Canada...will you go back to India to find a bride/ groom? Yes or No...and your reasons...

The common perception is that guys won't marry here cuz they think these girls have "been around" so to speak...when reallly...the same could be true with girls in india for all we know..

thoughts...

random i know...but interesting nonetheless

My plan is that I'm going back there to get married, not find a girl. I know a handful of people however that will want to find a girl in India so that they satisfy the requests of their parents. I don't think they have a personal preference to find a girl that has not "been around", more like finding girls that are from the same village so they can have continuity in some capacity!

Personally, I think there are still many girls and guys that haven't been around. On top of that, why should it matter that they've had past experiences with dating/sex. Of course I have that western belief of falling in love and not having marriage arranged, and I am liberal in that sense. I don't see anything wrong with people who choose to be free, whether its a guy or a girl, here or in the US. As long as they are smart about it and realize their priorities later on in life, and also realize that marriage is a sacred thing.

nice post

alot of guys/girls want to go back to india to satisfy their parents...in turn they also get to pick/choose so its a positive on both ends (parents and groom/bride)

i dnt necessary think that indian girls/guys that were born/raised here are not cultural enuff or ne thing...i was born and raised here and i know quite a bit about my culture and religion, rituals, etc...

just my 2 cents

interesting topic jeeti...I have a bunch of older cousins who are ready to get married and my familys lookin for people for them (kinda depressing b/c im sure they cud just go find some1 themselves)....but my cousins been living here for 5+ years now and she'd marry a guy from india anyday, which kinda upsets me....I dont think that people living here have the same ideals as those in India. I dont kno if this holds true for people my age in India but from what I do know is that they need to be harder on themselves. They're way too non-chalant about life. They don't seem to put any expectations on themselves, if they do its their own parent's expectations vs. here we don't have our parents set our goals (they may influence them) but we like to set them ourselves.....and this whole attitude I think is probably the biggest factor that sets us apart from them.....and marrying some1 or even knowin some1 that isnt motivated to do better for themselves would just be a really depressing thought....but marriages done in India are defff done nicer than they are here

thats cause you're like 14 hahahaha.

No but good topic Jeeti. I don't really care, whatever my parents want is fine with me but I'm def getting an arranged marriage. But I'm leaning more towards them finding a guy here rather than in India (even if he's only been here for a few years) because that he way he knows the taur tareeke here and I won't have to explain much or feel a bit out of place..if that makes sense...?

Weird, cuz I thought the trend was that you find someone and let your parents know. But from this thread it seems like people are leaning more towards getting arranged and letting their parents choose.

Hmmm...very interesting topic!

I was born and raised in the U.S. so I could never ever see myself marrying someone from India. I mean im very well-versed in the indian culture, but we would still be way too different! Its a different world of thinking over there so there is not much we could connect on besides maybe our professions! (ima a pre-med so naturally my parents wont lemme marry anyone other than a doc! :p haha) ;D

I have Roop and we don't need to make things "official".

But uuhhhh I would plan to get engaged and all with someone here, and then get married wherever it makes sense. Meaning if most of our families are here, then wedding here. Maybe honeymoon in India/Pakistan? But if we have lots of family overseas, then overseas! Like that. Wherever our families suggest, I think.

Welcome to my life... :( ...lol

anyways...even though i'm still pretty young (so i might not fit well in this topic)...I'm pretty sure that my parents are expecting me to find sum1 myself even tho they found/suggested girls for my elder brothers...but they're only allowing me to find sum1 myself simply because they're confident I'll bring home a decent Indian girl (which may not have been the case with my brothers hahahaha)...but I also know think that people back in bangkok (where my family's from) will have their eye on me...and idk how i feel about that :/
