Fudge it I know btf gonna rip me a new one for this, but Fudge it. This is the sadest excuse for a bhangra attempt ever :| Dholi was holding his dugga wrong lol. Like i cant even rip this because it would get too long and boring of a post. People really need to learn that these guys arent a bhangra team. Like the do chal(jugni, tunka, luddi) about 28 times in the video, Thari jhummar was turned in to a massacre of 16 step moves. After the video was done i poked out my eyes

I know ppl are gonna be like yo their legends and insperation to us all. But i still think they suck :)

It's amazing to think that this was just 6 1/2 years ago...and that at the time it was considered the gold standard! Definitely an inspiration to many of us baabey logh on the circuit back in the day. This performance (which I remember downloading on Kazaa! b/c there wasn't a YOUTUBE or india videos haha!) gave us a platform from which we could evolve and take bhangra to an even higher level from where KJ had brought it.

RU's performance here was pretty good...Remember that one really 'large' girl in yellow...She could move!!!! haha!

And this attitude is exactly what's ruining the circuit. No sense of context, no appreciation for history, no respect for anyone. It's fine to think the dance is not that good, cause it isn't by today's metrics. That doesn't diminish what they did in the framework that they did it in and how much they affected the evolution of Bhangra in NA especially in the way competitions have grown since then.

But more importantly they were a team predicated on having fun, and if nothing else I hope that's something people keep carrying forward.

Clearly illustrated why you must still be a teenager.

you cant compare bhangra in north america from 2004 to bhangra in north america from 2010, they are totally different entities. hell, you cant even compare bhangra from more than a couple seasons apart against each other; the art form has evolved so much, and continues to do so at such an alarming rate, people will watch performances from now in 6 years and say the same thing you are saying now junglyjatt.

do bhangra for the love it, no more no less, how i look at it,

in my opinion, bhangra is a dying art, which isn't being revived, and i know these guys personally, and they did for the love of it, hate on their dance, but i think its wrong for not thinking what they did and what foundation they formed for the bhangra we have now,

+1 Totally agree with Sulman.

You can't even begin to think that most traditional teams or modern teams would have a platform to perform at if it wasn't for the old school teams bringing "hype" to the bhangra circuit. Heck, even competitions wouldn't be at the level they are at if it wasn't for their "learning process" of how to cater to teams/put on a legit show/etc. It's a sad thing to know that most people on the circuit nowadays have no appreciation for how North American bhangra/bhangra competitions came to be what they are now.

This is similar to how many that weren't around for the POL stage of bhangra forums have no appreciation to how good we have it here at BTF. ;)

~ Basim :)

P.S. - On my hard-drive that crashed a while back, I had a lot of old school bhangra team videos (from the first couple DDA's/Bhangra Blowout competitions) that I mostly got from DC++ (Yes, I know.. I'm old school). Sulman, I even had some of your "pre-partition" bhangra cultural show videos from RIT. haha. Bhangra was just about having fun back then.. so many good memories!

Its KJ... they don't suck.. If it werent for kj, i don't think half of the people would be at all associated to bhangra or dancing. If I were in 2004, i would be so excited to see them perform; to be honest it was pretty cool watching them right now as well. Its kind of amazing how a competition would fly a team all the way out from one side of the country to the other. A team has to be somewhat good in order to get flown out and get treated sort of like bhangra royalty right? Well, great post danny! Definetly love watching kj routines even right now; easy to see how they sort of influenced bhangra in a sort of modern way and helped teams in the creative aspect (gimmicks, stunts, etc.).

I remember watching the Zee Tv Bhangra Competition in 2004 through 2006 I think.. And was amazed back then to see all those teams compete. Khalsa Junction does and has played a big role in some peoples lives! A lot of us started dancing because we had seen KJ compete at so many shows and basically place first. Only thing is they might seem to suck now but this was 2006 or whatever... and back then we all thought KJ was one of the top dog teams..

I for one started doing bhangra because of Khalsa Junction. Its easy to criticize them now because we have so many resources to learn bhangra... but hey if you were in the year 2004 in north america you'd probably be doing the same thing as this video because at that time everybody was pretty much learning off of KJ.

I started doing bhangra and got interested in this scene because of teams like KJ. Plain & simple. Bhangra would not have got the exposure and growth in North America if it wasn't for teams like KJ to pave the way.
