Wow, this was a fantastic competition. It was really great to meet everyone and see all the teams perform.

I loved the idea of having a picnic as the pre-competition mixer. It really brought all the teams together and the games were a creative and fun way to decide the lineup of the show.

The competition itself was really well-organized, the entire committee was incredibly friendly and helpful. They were literally ALWAYS there when you needed them. My brother was the one injured on Gajjde Gabroo, and whole committee did everything they could to help him out. A special shoutout to Andy and Aaron who really went completely out of their way in assisting us in getting him to the hospital and taken care of. Also thanks to Benny and Gifty who also were a huge help. It was great to see the community come together in the face of an unfortunate incident like this and support each other, and we're thankful to everyone who expressed their concern.

With that being said, big ups to Anooj for picking up the choreography so fast and holding it down for his team the next day in Rohit's place! He really did brilliantly for picking up the routine so fast!

As for the team performances, I only have a few words, you can all decide for yourselves how they did when you see videos.

It was terrible how HPD's phumans got stuck, cause if it wasn't for that, they really would have the competition hands down. There were no visible mistakes, and the routine was completely folk with lots of energy.

Nachdi Jawani's jhummar section made my heart beat a little faster. That is all. :)

PPA downright killed their performance. The red jodi was exceptionally graceful, and I honestly could not keep my eyes from them.

KFAC brought a great routine too, really consistent with their energy kept it pure folk.

I was a little disappointed with both SGPD's live and music category, I'm used to seeing them really blow the competition away, but the routines were quite messy in some areas.

The AVA girls destroyed the competition, I'm astonished they didn't win. The energy was always high and the formations were always on point, as well as the execution. Congrats girls for being on such a high winning streak! You've really come far!

Phulkari group was pretty good, I just think 8 girls really didn't fill up the stage at all though. You either needed more girls or it would have been better if the formations/execution was bigger. But hey, what you did got you first place, so you all are obviously doing something right :) congrats!

I don't want to comment on the music categories, because each time I watch the videos my opinion keeps differing from what I saw when I watched live, but congrats to all the placing teams! Overall, I was disappointed with Virsa's, and SGPDs. From what I've seen of them before, I know they can do better and they were pretty messy. I liked DCMPAA's and WB's. Jawani Warriors were absolutely amazing...incredible stamina and energy throughout. Big ups to Furteeley Shokeen for pulling off a great performance despite the fact that you had to start over cause the CD skipped. Really good job!

Speaking of videos, I know most teams already have theirs, but in case you want another one, I have:

Virsa:OT
SGPD music
AVA
NJ live

If someone on the team PMs me, I can send it to you :)

Thanks to the Bhangra Masti committee for organizing a fantastic competition and to all the teams for putting on a great show!

Thanks Bianca B for really good comment. I totally agree with you on stage not being full, :) with 8 girls.
This was Phulkari's 2nd competition, it was unforgettable. :).

+1
i totally agree with bianca!! having only eight girls doesnt fill up a stage and you can do so much more formation wise with 12 girls!! I did not see phulkari's performance so i dont know what their formations were like but its just another plus!!

well from the 4 vids i watched jawani warriors killed it ... and other 3 were live and as for live id place it
1. koinoor.. but 2 of the dancers reallli started dying out at the end but id still place em first cuz the performence was raw
2. PPA... even tho it was hella close
3. NJ.. onli cuz i havent seen other live vids but i just didnt get too much of a "live" feel from the performance... as in the rutine, band was legit tho

and honorable mentions would be PPAs dholi was f**king crazy... especially his stance the whole time lol.. and Koinoors singer was beyond words not just his voice but the style he puts behind every boli... and PPAs jugni segment was soo damn sexy

but ya its just my opinion i kno ppl get hella defensive lol and im not picking out flaws im just saying why i placed em the way i did.. but all 3 did an amazing job i woulda loved to be there to watch in person =[

I should’ve done this fresh after the show but I had a really hectic weekend so I will try to add whatever stood out in my mind sitting in audience for most of the show.
Here goes:

MUSIC -
Furteeley Shokeen – The set started out well. One guy had a shikeh break. I liked the JK track thrown into the mix but the Cd started to skip half-way into the set. Sitting in the audience I could not help but feel sorry for them, and it just sucked the life out of the room. The MC came out and explained there was a tech issue with the CD and the team was being allowed to restart. The set was ok the second time around but little mistakes cost them.

DC Metro – Girl in the blue def stood out as one of the best dancers on the team and the set was very good. The team as a whole were very good and consistent as well. No major mistakes or slip-ups. Mix was very good. After watching their set, you got the feeling that they had a good shot at placing.

Virsa – A good set as well with a great mix. Some dancers appeared more skilful and energetic than others, as one or two of the virsa guys just seemed to be a little slow compared to others during the set at times. But even with that being said, I still thought they had an outside chance to grab 3rd.

Jawani Warriors – Everything was amazing. Energy was off the charts, as these guys came out with fire. The brothers in the red killed it along with the rest of the dudes. Chimta spin, shikeh, formations, khunde you name it and they executed it well. It was my favourite set of the night from Music category. They set the bar with that performance and jumped into 1st place and did not let go.

WB – Good energy in the start, good intro and the rest of set was adcent. I thought they probably had the best looking outfits though. Overall, it was ok but I remember feeling they just didn’t do enough to match DC/Virsa due to inconsistency, as some dancers seemed a bit more confidence than others on stage.

SGPD – Their set was good I thought, but not killer as Idols, E8 or Masti09. But I think they were missing some of their main core guys to the LIVE set for later on. Nothing really went wrong in their set, but it just wasn’t enough to beat Jawani Warriors in my eyes for 1st. They definitely did enough to merit a place in the top3, but I guess the judges may have held them to a higher standard because i was surprised they didn’t place. I would love to see the scorecards (thats if they are going to release them) to see how close the battle for 2nd and 3rd place was.

Overall – I thought Jawani Warriors deserved 1st place and they had the best performance of the night in my opinion. That’s not taking anything away from any other teams, as it was a good show. 2nd and 3rd couldve gone to DC, SGPD or Virsa. I would love to watch the videos again because this review is only off watching it live.

Girls-
I didn’t catch the start. I think I walked in during Romantic Jatt for AVA. They looked sharp.
TAG also did a crazy routine with a lot of energy and a lightning fast pace.
Other than that I don’t really remember much so I won’t comment.

LIVE – The Main Event

Let me start by saying this part of the show was amazing. Videos will not do these teams justice. SGPD, NJ, PPA, KOHI, HPD all killed it.

Gajde Gabroo – Very good set. Didn’t expect you guys to come out and do so well. I didn’t know about all the drama that was described by the other posters. You guys held you're own out there. I think there was a little bit a tangle with phumaans with you guys as well , but it was for a few secs at the most.

Nachdi Jawani – Excellent set. Everyone was amazing. I loved the intro. Very proper and their performance had a legit claim for 1st place.

PPA – Excellent set. All of these guys were sick. All of them were in sync. Nana the Dholi tore it up as well. PPA was another team that could’ve easily walked away with first as their set was too sick as well.

SGPD – Excellent set also. They brought their “A” game for the LIVE part. Their moves were very clean and simple, totally in sync. They did enough to stake a claim to place and it sucks they got shut out because I thought they did well. (Maybe the judges took off points because Rahul was wearing green instead of red... oh the blasphemy) :)

HPD – Most unfortunate team of the night as they started out so strong, and were doing so well that it appeared that they would’ve separated themselves from pack to take 1st but green and yellow had phumaan problems and they couldn’t untangle themselves for what seemed like a minute. I was shocked and you could hear the crowd gasp as these two guys were trying their best to get untangled but nothing was working. They finished their set strong and with class and professionalism after a horrible unfortunate error. Hope you guys return next yr.

MAD – Ricky J did well but overall their performance was not up to the mark.

Kohinoor – Great job as well. No complaints on their set. Very graceful indeed as someone else mentioned.

Overall, NJ, PPA, SGPD, & KOHINOOR, really really really did well I thought. HPA may have surpassed them all had the phumaan issue not occured but those are the breaks I guess.
I might have gone 1.NJ 2.PPA 3.SGPD, but if HPA didn’t have phumaan issues, I would’ve given them first.

It was a great show and I hope some HD videos are released soon.

TAG is NUTS! Having SGPD helping is a plus but executing a routine that well takes alot of skill, aside from what Tag already has! Nice.

Its not about formations its about bhangra :)
Not exactly... not when formations hold weight in judging
I agree with Miss Amy and Ojala. It may not be solely about formations but entertainment is a big thing and that comes with having complex formations .I'd get bored of watching people do,even super folk bhangra, standing in one spot. Tag had alot of nice formations which must have had something to do with them placing. The girls category seems really tight. Being off by .5 or .anything is insane.

What's so hard about being a LIL creative with 8 dancers on stage? Phulkari cant use that as an excuse.. AVA girls and BN also had 8 dancers :S
Soo0o many teams do crazy things with 8 for example PCBCA at vibc.. that was legit. If you dance proper then you can for sure fill up space on stage its no big :)
++ IMO its boring when teams do hella creative formations but don't actually do bhangra..

sure, its boring when teams do that... but I don't think that was the case here. TAG managed to do bhangra AND have insane formations. And i don't think Phulkari was using anything as an excuse, they agreed with the criticism/feedback... last i checked they got 1st Place too so I'm sure theyre happy with how they did.

Congrats to ALL the winners, i hope the general aura around the comp was fun and social cause there were definitely some great teams here!

Thanks again for your comments....i don't think i was making any excuse i agreed with comment given to us
we did do formations but not like other teams because our coach likes to keep simple and clean routine. I loved AVA and TAG bhangra (i didn't see other team), we never thought that we will win 1st place but i guess judges did saw something they liked in our bhangra. All teams worked very hard, it was an honour for me and my team to be part of this competition and finally watch all the teams perform live . :)

is this the same phulkari team that won first at bhangra flames '09?

ifso i hope tht it wasn't the same routine from that competition, cuz i didn't' agree with their placings there nd im pretty sure tht i aint gonna agree with em here aswell
Parm you're right, it was the same Phulkari team from Bhangra Flames '09
And yeah, that competition was horribly rigged
And if this performance was anything like that, then there must have been a huge mistake with the placings here

Dont ASSUME

makes an ass out of U and ME. You may not agree with them placing there but have you seen their video from Masti? How can you say your sure you wont agree with them placing at masti? Unless it has nothing to do with their routine or their dancing ability but some personal grudge.True?

Jaskirin my apologies.I was speaking in general about teams having only 8 dancers.Phulkari never posted anything about "using eight dancers as an excuse that they won".Hopefully you can explain your post better because im having trouble deciphering it.Sorry if you thought it was an attack at your team.I can see that your not a formation based team and it seems to be somewhat working for you.Congratualtions on third :)

Deepi are you putting up a video?
