Look back at the 90's bulls. HOW WAS THAT TEAM BUILT!
Very differently.
[/quote]

I didn't mean the coalition of 3 superstars. I meant a team that is built to compliment a few key players. The rest were fillers at first, until they built a reputation and got more people... Anyways not the point.

P.S. Kyle Korver too? you guys are getting stacked. Genuinely worried...

With a possibility of J.J. Reddick as well, the bulls are gonna be derrty.

I was partly being purposefully pedantic when I posted that, bhai. I got your general point. But I’ve noticed several posters using the dynasty era Bulls as an apt point of reference for how today’s Heat team could be built which I do not think is entirely accurate. For one, the Bulls’ teams of the late 80s up until the end of the first three peat was much more organically constructed. Apart from Cartwright, Chicago’s key complementary pieces were either drafted or groomed (I have Paxson in mind here) by the team. The implication is that there was continuity; they grew together. Yes, there was a focal point to build around but because the process was gradual, these players grew into their roles as opposed to being forced into them. Familiarity with this model also eased the implementation of the “plug-in” strategy utilized in the reconstruction of the team after Jordan’s first retirement. Essentially, Miami is a team starting from scratch. I’m more optimistic than COMTON that they will be able to find their supporting cast*. It just won’t be in the manner the Bulls did.

Yep, this is 100% Rose's team now. Has his post player, has his shooter(s?). Round out the bench with a defensive 2, another ballhandler and a backup scoring power forward and see how far the kid can take the team.

^^Great points. The HEAT have had a really generic, traditional offensive system. I think they are gonna become a really uptemo team and run up and down the court and generate as many possessions as they can. Also I see lots of offense coming from screen-roll plays (D-Wade with a pick set by Lebron, Lebron with a pick set by Bosh, D-Wade with a pick set by Bosh).

Here is where the personnel problem will come into play. If they don't get another rebounding C then Bosh will probably be forced to play closer to the basket in order for rebounding. From what I have seen with Bosh he has a great face up game and great range but is not that good in the traditional back to the basket moves. So it is important that he not have to play too many minutes at the 5. If they can get some legit size up front then I think they will be in a lot better position to challenge this year. Also I am sure the HEAT are gonna see a lot of zone defense and have driving lanes cut off. It is imperative that they get some guards that can shoot long range shots. D-Wade and Lebron do their damage at the rim and mid range (both extremely effective at both) but long jumpers is not their strength.

IF Lebron can develop a post game this summer then it will go a long way to helping the team. Bosh has had some injury concerns the past few years and I would imagine that the Heat do not want him playing 40-42 minutes a night at 4/5. If Lebron can take some of those minutes as a 4 and kill people in the post then it will really change the dynamic.

I just don't think they can add enough this year to get through the playoffs against teams with 8 and sometimes 9 man rotations. I think the Celtics, Bulls, Magic could beat them in a 7 game series. But these are just the biased thoughts of a scared Laker fan.

I love love love well informed, educated arguments. THANK YOU for making this fun :). I've always loved the bulls, despite the fact that between the bulls and the knicks, the miami heat never saw the championship through the 90's. You're right, the bulls put alot of effort into development of alot of players. In addition, the build revolved highly around pickingup players that FIT INTO a system, rather than revamping it. Thats why for 10 years the team was so lethal.

Rose has already shown me he has what it takes to be a boss in this league. Personally, I'd like to see him try to further develop his play making skills as a passer rather than fully push into the dimension of a 2 guard who just happens to run the 1. I think it will just make him that much more dangerous. With the addition of Korver and Boozer (who thankfully REALIZED how beautiful this team was sitting, which lebron did not seem to give its full worth, to be honest), you guys are honestly my current favorite for jumping to the top of the East, even more so than miami. I only say current, however because I have to see the acquisitions that are made by miami, which I believe will be intelligent and sound. In Riley We Trust...

Random fact: Miami now has 3 out of the top 5 picks from the 2003 draft.

And people saying that this team won't contend this year... either insecure about your own team's shot at the title, or just plain ignant.

Cheers, bhai.

Playmaking wise, I don't think Rose will ever be on par with a Stockton or Nash in terms of pure vision. I think he should be able to bump up his assist numbers now that it looks like the new personnel will lead to better floor spacing (and also have better natural ability to take advantage of said space). I think our biggest worry was that he'd turn into a Marbury/Francis type but he has a good head on his shoulders so while he may never be an elite passer (though certainly an above average one), he definitely finds ways to get his teammates involved.

Can't say whether the Bulls will jump to the top of the pile just yet. Still a couple of things that need to fall into place.

Another random fact: Three of the top five picks in the 2003 draft are not capable of leading their respective teams deep enough into the playoffs

Hopefully D Rose keeps improving, because he's ill. Bulls looked stacked, and I like the move of Dallas keeping Haywood and trying to lure away Haslem from MIA. Cuban has gone on the record saying that what MIA did shouldn't happen, so I can't help to think that he's doing what he can to stick it to Riley

Well that depends on what your definition of "deep enough" is. Wade has led his team to a title already, Bron and Carmelo to their respective conferences' finals. I guess Bosh is the only one who hasn't had the opportunity since he's been stuck with a buncha scrubs throughout his career. And Milicic... well he has a ring too lol

What i think he means by deep enough is, 3 guys can only do so much, with most teams who get to the finals do with about 7-9 guys, but those extra 2-4 guys are only good if they've played with their superstars for a decent amount of time to get acclimated to the superstars game. Not only will "the big three" be taking steps back in the form of the game they play, so will the role players. Normally with a superstar or two, the role players have some responsibility, but now that there are 3 guys on one team, that could have earned the max nba contracts on their former respective teams, they will take ALL THE THUNDER from the role players. They'll jus pretty much be there to stand around and and fill the roster spots at the beginning. And until the role players can get acclimated, there will be no chance of a title. The heat will win 2 rings in this 5 year period, but only if the role players get accustomed to LOLbron's, Flash's, and Bosh's responsibilities.

I hope that made sense, cuz i jus woke up, so im pretty much writing half asleep still.

Phoenix finally added a decent 1-on-1 player that doesn't try to do 360 dunks on breakaways (only to get em blocked, I wish i had youtube access at work because I would totally post that LBJ block video on J-Rich). I know Turk is getting old but he should be a good addition to the roster. If they still had STAT and picked up Turk, that would be interesting. CP3 was making some statements about how he wanted him, melo and STAT to get together and form another Big 3 in NYC. What is it with star players teaming up and going for rings? Wheres the competitive edge? I would understand if they were at the tail-end of their careers but these guys are at/near their peak.

Miami brought back Haslem, good signing. Still need to find a good defensive, rebounding center.

I know people like to point out the Big 3 of the Celtics did it so the HEAT can too but the Celtics had great role players on that team that won them games. Leon Powe literally won a game for them (even though most of his points came on bullshit freethrows). Eddie House's 3 pointers helped them comeback in game 4 2008 finals and PJ Brown, Rondo and others carried them in some games in the earlier rounds.

I know the HEAT players are better but the fact remains that real life is not NBA Live, player ratings dont exist and the difference between players on some nights can be razor thin. And over a series some dude named Rashard Lewis can decide he is not going to miss any 3 pointers. That is why players like Horry, Fisher, Kerr, Paxson can make the difference.

Also. How will this team be officiated? Lebron and D-Wade get to the line a lot but if they are going to the line too much the NBA will let the refs know they are gonna have to officiate different. How does that change their games?

Wow, i just ogt home and did not realize we resigned haslem. I hope he's still one of the team captains, LOVE that man. For anyone who thinks that miami's just a bunch of jumping all stars, see haslem. born and bred miami, loyal to the end. My favorite player on the heat STILL, next to Wade. Haslem is consistent, and I would see no qualms about putting him in for the few minutes that bosh/lebron need to sit down. He pulls down consistent boards, puts up consistent points (10 and 8 roughly) and brings a decent defensive presence. Love this guy.

If this Fisher deal goes down, I can see all the lakers fans starting to pee in their pants. Not because hes that key or clutch (which, though i hated him for it, he is) but because if lakers players are jumping ship, something just MIGHT be on the horizon ;).

^Fisher re-signed with the Lakers I believe.

Mike Miller on board with Miami Heat.

Stern fined Dan Gilbert 100k for that open letter and Gilbert's response? "thats like fining Anne Frank for writing her diary."

LOL
