To be very fair and honest - I can't stand Sarina Jain but is her "newbie friendly" version of bhangra actually slowly helping bridging gaps and educating others. Better than not knowing anything right? What makes me cringe is that she sells this as a 'folk dance' which her workout is definitely not. I don't know what to think about her. She's annoying to us, yes but is she exposing a small part of our culture to those who would have known nothing otherwise?

Ya I guess a diluted perverted misrepresentation is better than nothing... We got a big movement here where bhangra has been extremely feminized and I think it's more like bollywood masala jazzercize cardio bhangra than anything else... I mean, it's all bhangra moves and bhangra music, but it's been morphed. but ppl r jammin on it... Because if it's exhuberance, it is catching tons of ppls attn and popularizing this dance form. So ya, you have a point that it's creating awareness and is an inlet to peopel who might have not ever had the chance to experience it. Back to the local scene, to me, even though I'm gori, I feel it's very sad that this particular local movement is getting all the awards and newspaper spreads instead of anything traditional or authentic. But I feel it's pretty much all targeting non-Indians and not geared toward the Desi culture anyway... Will b back, can't type n e more, freakin hand is killin me..

Whatever. If she can make a buck off of it then more power to her. I wish I would have thought about this and done it before her.
