Siddy P's camera should have SCGB's preformance recorded. I think Payal had recorded while FCB and fans cheered :)

That was a good idea. The FCB video we recorded is deafening at some points due to cheering.

As for the competition, Muqabla was disorganized and many of the staff members were not knowledgeable about what was going on at any point during the day. Only 75% of teams were allowed to buy tickets to the after-party and not all teams were even approached to buy tickets (they didn't even talk to FCB and myself and the other SCGB captain did not receive tickets). No one was informed about this in advance (the packet indicated anyone on a VIP list provided by the team would get in) so people were naturally upset. There was also an unnecessary 8 a.m. call where team members were checked in one-by-one to receive backstage wristbands. This could have been OK if breakfast was provided (it wasn't-teams had to fend for themselves), but many teams woke up hours before their tech time, for something that could have just been done when they got to stage.

The competition itself ran pretty smoothly. The MCs were a bit awkward, but other than that no major hiccups. A lot of teams were very creative incorporating in the 25% American music/East meets West theme. I had fun watching everyone (I unfortunately missed Rochester because we were backstage getting ready to go on- I heard it was sick!) I feel like the auditorium should have been packed, but it wasn't that crowded. The people who were there were a great audience; I had fun dancing for them!

So in summary, everything leading up to and after the competition, disorganized. The competition: a fun time.

Note: A mixer would solve so many problems. Not only could you check in all the teams without making all the teams turn up early in the morning, you could also sell everyone their after-party tickets in advance and clear up logistical issues. Just a thought.

YES a MIXER, reppinsteelcity you got most of the stuff that i was concerned with but, A. WHO THE HELL ONLY LETS 75% OF YOUR TEAM GET AFTERPARTY TICKETS? and for 12 dollars? uhh, no, but afterparty was pretty fun, it was in some banquet hall, but got shut down like 2 hours early because some sig rho dudes got into to a fight... surprise surprise...
AND B. I think a mixer would be a great idea so we could get the logistical stuff outta the way, and plus I LOVE MEETING NEW PEOPLE.
just sayin.
besides it being kinda disorganized muqabala was HELLA FUN, a trip to remember.
OH and i think they should def do a better job of advertising, venue was sick, but not full!

I had the pleasure of watching the entire show, however I did not take any notes and I am recalling most of this from memory, so please excuse how vague the reviews are. Also, I am only reviewing the bhangra teams, as all the fusion teams have now molded into one large conglomerate in my mind. (If you have friends on those teams that want a review, they are more than welcome to ask but I might need to be told what their theme was, what they were wearing etc.)

Geneseo Bhangra:
A huge improvement from last year! The formations were very clean and it is great that you got multi-colored vardiyan. Everyone was smiling, though nakhra can be improved. It is one thing to smile, but another to show that you are truly enjoying the performance and every song has a different mood, so that should be present as well. Energy was consistent, though never hitting a high point. I feel that your performance also lacked a wow factor- everything was extremely simple. Add some pizzazz to your choreography and it will definitely draw the audience in.

Binghamton Bhangra:
I will obviously not offer my comments as they already know what I thought. All I want to say is Im extremely proud of my babies and how far they have come! :)

First Class Bhangra:
You guys were very entertaining! I loved your song selection. Risks were definitely taken, and unfortunately some did not turn out so well (a khunde was dropped I believe?) There were so many things thrown in the air, maybe simplifying would be the best option if you want to make changes to this set. Everyone's energy was off the charts, however there were times that the formations became sloppy and some dancers forgot choreography. This performance was enjoyable and congratulations on third!

I watched the following teams from the balcony so these reviews are even more vague..sorry =\

Rochester Bhangra:
This performance was hands down, the best of the night, amongst bhangra, fusion, raas whatever. What set you guys apart was your cleanliness. The transitions were really smooth, with very few mistakes. This was your most "folk" performance up to date, and the "folkness" was maintained even with the American music. There is a distinction between your more experienced dancers and the less experienced, so keeping working on form with them because they have amazing potential. The MCs mentioned that Rochester was at Muqabala from the beginning, so congrats on taking home that first place trophy :)

Steel City Girls Bhangra:
You girls have great energy! I was also surprised to see how large your team was, which really helped the stage appear much more alive. I think there is a lot of variation amongst your dancers in terms of style and technique. Work on dancing as a team so that everyone looks much more in sync. Some formations were also sloppy. Also, I think you girls should change up your vardiyan. They seemed somewhat old-fashioned and drab. It seems like you ladies have so much fun dancing so it was fun for the audience to watch you!

About the show itself:
Those MC's can be described in one word: awkward. I know it is difficult to be in that position, but have some material prepared beforehand if you are not good at spontaneity. I am glad that they kept everything as brief as possible but that did not take away from how uncomfortable some of the MCs were. Also, there was an inappropriate comment made about MILFS during the show. There are parents and children in the audience; why would a comment like that be made?
The show ran fairly smoothly, even though it was long. Five hours is somewhat overkill. The audience was really receptive considering how small it was.

Organization:
The staff of the show, at times, were not very nice. The performers of the show are guests to your university- wouldn't you want to treat them as graciously as possible? It is commendable that the Muqabala staff wanted everything to be as organized as possible, but please do not be so uptight about little things, to the point of rudeness. I am not saying this show was poorly run, but please be a bit more open to answering questions.

Afterparty:
This was my third Muqabala and this was the first time that I dealt with an afterparty situation such as this. I find it extremely unfair that only 75% of performers could buy pre-sale tickets. How can you expect an entire team to attend an afterparty if there is not a guarantee that the team will get in. My teammate gave me her afterparty ticket so I ended up going (I did bring a dress after all) and the party gets shut down early! Apparently a fight broke out between two fraternities or something. I strongly believe this would not have happened if more teams were guaranteed entry because teams are there to meet other people and bask in finally being done with competing!

I hope I have not offended anyone :) I know that for those who were in attendance at the show, Binghamton Bhangra would appreciate some feedback on their performance even though it is still uncertain whether the video will be posted. Thanks and congrats to Rochester Bhangra, Roc the Raas and First Class Bhangra on their wins!!!
