other than hinduaya dey kaam comment, and the implied inferiroity with that comment, nothing he said was that outrageous.
I dont like bhangra, because a) the lyrics, b) how widely it has been diluted, and c) the type of people that listen to it. For a sikh (obviously looking at the guy, he is one of those, im born a sikh characters), the types of lyrics that Bhangra promotes is inherently anti sikhi. Someone asked isnt sikhi for the respect of all religions, yeah, and thats why what he said was stupid. But it is also against intoxication, against demeaning women.
People try to create the dicotomy of the types of Bhangra. Its such a faulty argument for so many reasons, I wont go into any.
I dont agree with the extent to what he said it, and why people are mixing this guy up as a teacher of sikhi is beyond me. Just becasue they may be in a gurdwara, dont take his words to be what is being taught or that he is teaching RELIGION.
The fact of the matter is, and he spoke the truth a bit, those who are involved in bhangra take away from the true meaning of what it means to be a sikh or a punjabi. Bhangra was celebrated in times of good harvest, but kids nowadays think that we should pimp out the culture because dancing is fun.
I wish he said it in a more respectful, and non religious degrading way, it would have been more affective to the kids. I dont think that bhangra is completely bad, but to the extent that you kids take it to is too far, and it usually leads to very underdeveloped minds which I think he is eluding to.
