great idea joe
im not going to lie i actually have had similar visions in the past but then thought forget it im only 18 i cant pull this off. whatever help you need your aeg brothers are there for u

i really feel teams should use a competition like this as a way for giving back to the community, it can be a way to test how strong we are as a community and how big of an impact we really can have. to the world we may just be bhangra teams but lets come together and show what we really are by doing something that we can all feel proud of.

so what can be the plan of action? should we make a reg packet first? book a venue (probly not, risky right? we need to gauge interest first).

Then maybe we should start contacting sponsors and community service organizations or charities first. obv. booking a good venue and getting a good date is gonna be tough right? we're talkin about the city.

what do you guys think? what's the first step? gotta get started somewhere.

1] Find out how much booking the venue will cost. Make an analysis of all costs that you will need to incur. (ie: Prize money, security costs..etc)

2] Talk to charities and make sure that they are on board. Let them know you're in your first few steps of the process.

3] Talk to sponsors. Let them know where you plan on having the venue. Let them know about the costs. Let them know what the benefits are (PR) and the multiple plans they can invest in. And make sure they know which charities are involved so they know its for a good cause.

4] Pick a date. Book the venue.

5] AND THEN, registration packets for teams.

^^ That's our plan. Thanks Kinnell!!

Also, before I do any of this-I need a board. That'd be useful.

idea: if you can get a couple teams to commit why don't you also get funds from the teams (say like each team commits $500 --or less-- or something) . so use the team money and money from sponsorship.

i mean if the teams are truly doing it in support of the charity why not.

Sarina Jain is my hero!!! She's the reason I got into bhangra in the first place!

... I wish there were a sarcasm button on this keyboard.

Ok, I'm pretty sure I could get ACTUAL judges who know what they're doing... but I'm not on that step right now.

I still need a board-people living in NYC who, during this process, can take me to my therapy sessions when I'm about to lose my mind. Totally kidding... but not really.

Again, we're still in REALLY early stages of this competition (as in the idea just came up barely 2 days ago).

Proceeds will be going to St. Jude-this is probably the one thing that I'm not willing to budge on. I'm also pretty sure they're game for anything that could potentially save a child's life, directly or indirectly-and if the actions themselves are moral.

The "community service for a ticket" idea is really cool, but for my first time doing competition-I want this to run as smoothly as possible. Something like this seems like it will be a little difficult to regulate and organize. Plus, to be honest, money would just be easier. The more money that comes in, the more money we can donate. Expenses are probably going to be high (this is Manhattan we're talking about), so $$$ would just help us a little more. I don't want to break even-I want St. Jude to receive as much money from this as possible. Chemo is EXPENSIVE!!!!

As for the team cash thing-that might be asking too much from them. Teams will already be paying for transportation, hotel, the application fee (is $150-$200 the standard for application fees?). I think I could get them a deal on the hotel, but everything else is all them. $500 might be too much-especially if they don't place.

But again-still not up to that yet. Things needed as of now: Board, and Sponsors.

For sponsers, talk to big shot lawyers, they always wanna get their name out to people, and also local community banks, because they are the only ones atleast in cali that havent had problems with near bankruptcy, im sure its the same in NY. And the lawyer thing, not just a one or two man partnership, unless they are rollin, but the major LLP's and corporated law offices.

hi joey!

i looked for the venue and stuff! For

Tribeca Performing Arts Center its 8000$ for the day. The capacity is 3000. This is where fusion royale took place. mad nice place u no.

Hindu Temple Auditorium is 300 per hour. Capacity is 800. This is where bhangra royale took place. I guess this is ur best choice.

I dont think there will be any other expenses unless u wanna give prizes. and i guess the sponsors could cover the price of the venue. and the tickets that people buy can go for charity.

By no means am I doubting what you found in anyway, just make sure you also look into:

- Non-profit pricing
- Staff and security charges
- If food is allowed backstage for teams
- How much of money they will take from ticket sales
- Miscellaneous charges for things like mics, lighting, projector screens, etc.
- How many hours they define as a "day." For some venues that means 4 of less hours, and on top of that they charge you for rehearsal time.
- Have a venue that is near the hotel so that teams can easily go back and forth if they are running late or need anything, and also so that you can cut down on transportation costs
- Predict your audience: you don't want to have a huge venue if you don't think you will be able to fill it up. But since this is going to be in New York, I don't think that will be a problem.
- Whether or not there is enough parking available (can be a big problem).

If there is anything else, please feel free to add. Again, good looking out for a venue sargam...i like a man who is on top of things (no homo)
