NFL Mid season thoughts...

What are yours? Whos the MVP, Defensive player of the Year, Coach of the Year, biggest surprise and upset? Other thoughts. Keep your own bias out of this...

Personally, MVP: Clinton Portis... Having an insane season, and is one of the main reasons why Jason Campbell is looking somewhat decent this year. The way that the defense has to respect on the PA's and you can see the line backers tripping over their own legs making decisions, and the way the Portis took apart the 36 defense, it was amazing. Santana Moss also owes a lot to Portis and the O-line.

Surprise: Buffalo Bills and I think Dick Jauron is the coach of the year SO far. Even though they lost two in a row, they are right their with the pats, and are a fun team to watch. Young team, with a 2nd year QB, who is making his name in the 4th quater. The Bills look nice. ALSO WHAT THE HECK? KYLE ORTON?!?.

Disappointment: Jacksonville's Running Game. There is no way with that much talent they should be running for 50 something yards per game. Also Dallas, a HUGE disappointment. I TELL EVERYONE... THE BIGGEST LOST TO THAT TEAM... Not Pacman... Not Romo... Not roy Williams... Not Newman.... FELIX JONES.. He is a game changer, he is a guy that gives them good feild position off kick offs and bust at least one or two 30+ yard runs per game...He is that guy you need to switch up the power game from barber. Watch the boys next game. Watch how the other team wont even defend against any stretches, any tosses, nothing like that... they dont respect barber's speed and ability for the big play and its hurting the boys.

Rookie of the year: Steve Slaton. I think for the team he is on, he has shown some amazing things. Matt forte and Chris Johnson are up there, but Chris Johnson has White and an insane defense, as does Forte. I just think right now , Steve Slaton 1, Chris Johnson 1a, and Matt forte 2, have to put D jack up there too...But slaton, wow, is a beast.

Defensive: No question... Hanyesworth... He is a monster on the feild, and an idiot off it.

Best story: Aaron rodgers. Knows how to play the game. doesnt throw too many picks. Makes smart decisions. Knows how to manage the game. The guy is going to be a top 5 QB in the very near future, and quite possibly be my favourite player this year just because what he has gone through.

MVP- Portis is pretty much a no brainer

Biggest surprise- Michael Turner...you would think opponents of the Falcons would put eight-nine in the box and force the rookie Ryan to throw, but hes been steady and has really complemented Ryans maturity in the pocket well with big runs (remember he is Turner the Burner). The fact that this offense is working without a reliable Algae Crumpler rests on Turners ability to run and provide Ryan with favorable one-on-one matchups(that win games..cough...one second on the clock...cough cough...)

Biggest Disappointment- Broncos D. If this defense was ranked at least 20th they would be 6-1 or 5-2 and a possible superbowl team. There offense can pile it on but a defense with Champ Bailey and Dre Bly at corner cant stop the run, and there run defense is akin to running skeleton drills in practice(with actual dummies instead of players). Mike Shanahan said this team would be competitive when the season started, but I think he meant if his Offense came around, not if his defense just decided not to show up. Also consider the Bengals passing game, Brett Favre as Jet, Chargers outside of Philip Rivers

Rookie- Chris Johnson probably wins this award, and he is the next Marshall Faulk, but im going to give some props to DeSean Jackson. He does look stupid at times, and hes from Philly, but if he wasnt there, who would McNabb pass too...Hank Baskett? He has his hands full with Kendra Wilkinson so...yeh. Hes also great returning punts and kicks too.

Defense- Patrick Willis. Albert Haynesworth is a beast, and hes been like that for a season or too(he need the consistency) but Patrick Willis is one of a kind. If he was on a half decent team he would be one of the most talked about players in the league. Right now, hes quietly going to lead the league in tackles again in his 2nd season wait patiently as San Fran tries desperately to bring Steve Young out of retirement to play Q.

Coach of the Year- Mike Smith. Atlanta doesnt suck. Wow. Looks like no ones going to be playing who let the dogs out anymore on Road games.

Best story- The bears lead the league in scoring. Yup...the bears. That potent O...ok my post ends right now so I can go eat before hell freezes over...the bears though

MVP: I hate C-Po, but he's on fire right now. he's keeping them ahead of the chains while Campbell chews away at the D. By the end of the year, I would saw Brees if the Saints have a solid record- that guy is throwing up just nasty numbers. Also, Frank Gore is playing out of his mind

Biggest surprise: Miami Dolphins. Running the Wildcat formation along with Pennington's accuracy is totally keeping them kicking. They've gotten more wins than I would have thought they'd have at this point in the season. and i LOVE ricky williams since he came out of Texas. Get a proper WR/TE and jack up the D and this team can make some moves. Also- Arizona. Kurt + Fitz + Boldin = $$$

Biggest Disappointment: TOO freaking many this year man. Dallas. San Diego. Indy. Denver's running game. The Bungles. Browns not stringing something together. I play with the Browns in Madden 09 I love them in there, but they gotta get it together. But f#@* Dallas needs to throw in Bollinger or something we need some WINS!! Also, LT is a fantasy bust

Rookie: Matt Ryan is playing decent for a rookie qb. Hasnt been sacked on a blitz, has Turner the Burner keeping the D honest, and Roddy White is shredding the outsides. I think he exceeded any expectations set on him. Forte is solid and of course Chris Johnson.

Defensive POY: Haynesworth, Patrick Willis is crazy, Troy Polamalu had a few picks early

Story of the year:
-Atlanta playing tough without Vick and with a rookie QB
-Miami's resurgence
-Buffalo playing strong and looking hard to beat
-Aaron Rodgers playing like a veteran QB
-NFC looking strong finally, while the Chargers, Colts, and Pats look shaky

Wait wait, you are claiming the bills are overrated because of their schedule, and your surprise is the TITANS? Are they a good team, sure... But what did they actually do? Stop that might unstoppable force that is the KC Chiefs? Or that Offensive Jaugernaut that is Joe Flacco? Or when they beat the scary good bengals?

When you have a schdule who's opponent combined winning percentage is 33%, you better be winning some games. I can think of at least 5 other teams, that would be 7-0 with the titans schedule. The titans have a good defense, and have faced teams that cant defend the run, ie-the colts. The titans currently rank 30th in pass offense. They arent that different from last year's 10-6 team.

The way the bills have beat the jaguars, and the chargers and others have been impressive. ALSO, the bills dont have the luxury of having veterans and an MVP candidate in Hanyesworth... They are a young team with a young QB, and are a team that are well coached and play hard.

The titans are NOT legit contenders.

Steve Slaton is a rookie RB who is splitting carries with Ahman green and really only started getting real carries when Green was hurt. Even though this is the case, He has more touchdowns than Chris Johnson and Matt Forte. Whoever is playing Forte with 8 in the box is stupid, and thats not the case if you have watched any bears games. Teams are respecting Orton's arm and big play ability to devin hester. With the Titans, its a different story because they tend to use Johnson and his speed in the later part of the game after white has beaten them up...

Slaton is on the TEXANS. Whose defense is on the feild longer than the refs. He gets no coverage because he is not in Chicago and isnt part of an undefeated team. But in years to come, Steve Slaton will become a bigger name. Chris Johnson is not good enough when he lines up wide or in the slot to be considered marshal faulk. Faulk could line up against the best DB's and Safets in the game and his route running was insane, johnson is not that great a reciever.

Surprise: Titans! It's surprising in the sense that no one on this planet would have picked this team to go 7-0. Usually you lose to a shitty team here and there. I know where Summy is coming from, the titans have played a pee wee schedule. I honestly think the only legit team they have played is the Ravens and thats only because of the Ravens D, otherwise I'm not all that impressed. They did beat the Colts last night, but then again, who hasnt beaten the Colts this year?

Disappointment: Colts, by far and away. No one saw this coming. Peyton manning looks average at best. I hate to say this, but even Eli looks better than Peyton right now, and I hate Eli... 3-4? Wtf?

MVP: Jason Campbell. When he sucks it up, they lose, when he plays well, they win. See how my formula has nothing to do with Portis? The Redskins live and die with Campbell, not Portis. I've probably ripped on Campbell more than anyone, but he's stepped it up big time of late. Good for Redskin fans, your team finally stop under achieving.

Best Rookie: Eddie Royal, Denver Broncos. I might be a little biased, but anyone whose seen the Broncos play knows that Eddie is the man! Steve Slaton, another great rookie, but I hate West Virginia... And Matt Ryan, may your ass burn in hell for the rest of your life, f*ck Boston College...

Most under-utilized great player on the planet: Vernon Davis. When this guy actually gets the ball, he's dangerous. Probably the fastest, strongest tight end in the country. He chased down a cornerback last week, no other fat ass tight end can do anything like that... The Niners are just wack, so much potential everywhere, but no f*ckin QB..

Best Player in the NFL: Frank Gore... Numbers say it all... 4th in Rushing... 1st in total yards from scrimmage... and he plays for the NINERS, the shittiest team in the NFL... Portis and Peterson would be nothing if they played on shitty teams... Gore is just nasty...

Best Coaching change: MIKE SINGLETARY baby... The Niners will be back someday... The glory years of the past will shine again, just wait... After all these shitty years, we still have the most Superbowls along with the Cowboys and Steelers...

Team I hate most: Steelers... Shitty jerseys.. Rothlesbooger is the most overated piece of garbage... They're just boring...

Vernon Davis = Freakishly Athletic, but a bust as a TE. He was suppose to be the next big "freak" coming out of college, he set unbelievable numbers at the combine, but has yet to show up on game day. The guy doesn't seem to think.....A Pro football player slapping another player? Singletary did the right thing. Davis is a tool.

Best player in the NFL frank gore? He's not even the best back right now......and it isn't even close. Portis is tearing up the league.

MVP: Campbell? ...He's not even the best player on his OWN team.....Portis is. Warner, Brees, Cutler, Rivers are having better years then Campbell. solid qb at the most as of now.
----

MVP: Drew Brees. Aerial Assault master. With a shitty run game, he is airing the ball out and on pace to shatter Marino's all time passing record. He is picking apart defense's left and right. Portis runner up, although a close battle, and could change easily by the end of the year.

Surprise? Bears Offense...WTF 1st in the league? Who the hell would have thought of that.

Rookie? Chris Johnson. Rushing Average over 5 yards. Team = undefeated. Summy pointed out, their pass offense is terrible, yet Johnson puts up solid numbers.

Disappointment? Colts, Hawks, Dallas, San Diego, Cleveland. Playoff caliber teams, having a shit hole of a season.

On the flip side, the niners lost to a team starting a 2nd string qb, with 9th string wr's and 27 yards rushing. Feels good not being the worst team in the league.

If you think about it, the MVP should be Tom Brady even though he's played like 1 game... Seriously just give him the award right now, you can totally see his value to his team with the way they are struggling without him...

Gore isnt even close to the best right now? He's 80 yards behind Portis in total yards from scrimmage... Do take into consideration the state of the 49ers offensive line, QB situation and everything else... Gore is better than Clinton Portis... Clinton would be Gores back up in San Francisco or hell, if Gore got traded to the Redskins, Portis would be his backup even then...

Yeah vick what the hell are you talking about. MVP is the most valuable PLAYER. Brady isnt playing.

Gore is NOT better than Portis. IT REALLY helps Gore when his team is a step above pee wee football. I would give the ball to gore an insane amount of times too if the next best player on your team is ISSAC BRUCE. Hahaha. Even the CFL wouldnt want that bum.

Your organization is in shambles. Your TE slapping faces, firing the coach mid season... The 49ers are the knicks of the NFL right now... Nobody takes you seriously.. Just a couple of weeks ago JT O sullivan was the next Brady, what happened now? You guys are 2-6 and the annual event that is watching the 49ers make a fool of themselves is going on again.

I watched the 9ers game last week for a bit. Hahah, holy shit, they are BAD. LIKE OAKLAND RAIDERS BAD.

Being the leading rusher on one of the best teams in the NFL and being the leading rusher on one of the worst teams of the decade, is a huge difference. The way Portis and Zorn control the clock, mix it in with pass offense, its fun to watch.

Dont ever bring a 49er into a football discussion unless the words "joke", "vomit inducing" and "national tragedy" are brought up as well.

Take of the homer glasses Vick. The only thing you have going for you is Gore.....Of course his scrimmage yards are going to be high, you have no receivers! Gore gets a shit load of dumb offs in the flat. Portis is about to eclipse the 1k yard mark, Gore is roughly 350 yards behind. Gore is a pro-bowl back, not an MVP. HUGE DIFFERENCE. There are shit load of pro-bowlers, but only one MVP. 49ers have been and will be bottom feeders of the NFL for quite some bit. Get a qb, than we will talk, until then....enjoy top 10 picks.

The Steelers could have sh*tty colors(and I disagree) but at least we dont pick up drunk irishmen like JT O'Sullivan and try to play with him. By the way, just throwing out there that our percieved sh*ttiness in color is better than the crap you put out on the field.

Frank Gore:

Season Team Rushing Receiving Fumbles
G GS Att Yds Avg Lng TD Rec Yds Avg Lng TD FUM Lost
2008 San Francisco 49ers 8 8 136 629 4.6 41T 4 32 311 9.7 26 1 2 1
2007 San Francisco 49ers 15 15 260 1,102 4.2 43T 5 53 436 8.2 23T 1 4 3
2006 San Francisco 49ers 16 16 312 1,695 5.4 72 8 61 485 8.0 39 1 6 5

Clinton Portis:

Season Team Rushing Receiving Fumbles
G GS Att Yds Avg Lng TD Rec Yds Avg Lng TD FUM Lost
2008 Washington Redskins 8 8 187 944 5.0 31 7 11 77 7.0 14 0 1 1
2007 Washington Redskins 16 16 325 1,262 3.9 32 11 47 389 8.3 54 0 6 5
2006 Washington Redskins 8 7 127 523 4.1 38T 7 17 170 10.0 74 0 -- --

Gore has been a starter for the last 3 years, compare that to Clinton Portis' last 3 years... Throw away Portis' 2006 season, I think he was hurt or something... I threw away Gore's 2005 season, he didnt start that year... The numbers speak for themselves...

Gifty,
I didnt say Gore was MVP, I said he was better than Portis, put on those reading glasses... I know he gets the dump offs, the difference between him and others is, he actually DOES something with the dumpoffs.. how can you knock a player for that?

Summy you tard,

Gore doesnt get the ball as much as Portis does... Calculate the stats yourself... I agree that the Niners are shambles, I actually try to keep it real on here instead of repping my teams hard when you know they suck(maple leafs summy? remember them?)...

If Gore had a line like the Redskins, man, it wouldnt even be close... He would make Portis look silly.... But ofcourse, Portis would be on the bench keeping things warm...

I'll respond to that with this...

Best player in the league? Wouldn't that equate to being MVP?

Best backs in the NFL change easily. Gore has outperformed Portis in the past, this year he hasn't. Like i said, he's a pro-bowler, not a mvp. Meanwhile Portis has a great chance to claim the MVP trophy as of now.

The whole offense of the 9ers is revolved around Gore, even if he doesnt get the ball as much. The skins have talented WR's, a solid defense and a smart coach. You have to realize that linebackers cant cheat on checkdowns with Portis because of the WR's on skins, but nobody is scared that any 9ers WR is gonna bet their DB's safety one on one. Everything the 9ers do is around Gore, and it is annoying. THeir Offense is one dimensional, and therefore once teams figured out the offense of run gore on 1st, then checkdown on second... teams figured it out, and thats why they suck.

I cant believe you think FRANK GORE is better than Clinton Portis and accuse me of being delusional about my home team.... Calvin Johnson? Haha.

Also I find it assuming that Vick focuses on the one non trashy, non borderline national security threat issue on the 9ers in Frank Gore, will not pointing out the fact that he shouldnt be so open about being a 9ers fan. At least the leafs have had winning seasons. The 9ers are as good as a bye this year.

haha calvin johnson. You realize if you put a bunch of children out there, they would have the same amount of wins as the lions right? Another DISGRACE.

I am cool with teams losing but when you have franchise's that suck so bad, they start to reflect on the passiveness of the city and the trashiness of the environment.

49ers = Mess, Trash etc.

I liked what the lions did with trading Roy Williams. With Dallas on the downfall as of now, the Lions could end up with another solid pick, ranging between 15-20, if they draft solidly, they could be an up and coming squad, that's a big IF.....I understand not winning games, but even the draft beats the lions....With Millen out of office, a chance is present to have a solid draft.
