NJ Warriors Warriors @ BAB 2014

Wasn't a huge fan of the mix at all, could use a lot of work. Choreo was typical NJ (very fast paced and a variation of moves) but was performed sloppily by all dancers. Fatigue was evident throughout and completion of moves was virtually non existent. I thought BBC was your guys's breakout perfomance and that the expectation became to big for this one. I kept waiting for some kind of a wow factor and it was just choreo slapped on top of choreo. I think this was one of those situations where the reputation of the team played a major factor in its placing, just my opinion.

I'm sorry, but since when was choreo on top of choreo a bad thing? Were you expecting someone to pull a rabbit out of a hat in the middle of the set?

i think too many people on circuit now are only looking for "wow" factors and underrating the bhangra. i respect that they did more bhangra and less hip-hop/tricks/gimmicks etc. the amount of steps they incorporated and the variation in it (regardless of how it was executed) was nice to see.

the 2nd/3rd place teams were no where near this performance i personally thought, but curious to know who you think deserved first here?

always tough to judge dances solely from the videos - but from what i've seen this was first place worthy just from the energy and level of cleanliness throughout such a fast paced set. hats off to these kids, they really do work hard. i will say, however, that this set didn't really showcase the grace that i would expect from an A+ routine. cleanliness at a fast tempo is definitely worth praise... but real skill and discipline comes out when there's more variation

Best team in the circuit.
Quality of the choreography aside, would you not expect the best team in the circuit to be more consistent in terms of execution and synchronization? The team is young and still gaining experience, but when considering them for the title of best team in the circuit, I would expect them to be more precise in their execution as a team and as individuals. The dancers in the back are not as strong as those in the front and the formations do end up hiding a lot of dancers in the back. If you notice, some of the dancers in the back simply dance differently (ie: doing foot taps across the other foot as oppose to its respective side) and there's messiness when dancers go down for squats, spins or start going fast.

While I may disagree about this being the best team in the circuit, this was the best team of the night, on either a folk or a modern rubric. While Boston had more x-factors, I really enjoyed the creativity of the actual choreography here - so many teams these days rely on x-factors for creativity instead of incorporating it into their choreography as well. One of the things that NJ (and the former Warriors) excelled at back in the day, other than creativity, was maintaining that balance between speed and grace throughout the set, highlighting each at various parts of the routine. Some of those graceful segments were when we got to see personality from the dancers and I feel like that's missing with these last two sets with the set being high energy, high speed for almost the entire set with limited moments of contrast.

I don't think BAB is about any X-Factors. It's more of folk style dancing and even judges might not like too many gimmicks. It was a fun competetion and congrats to all the winning teams. Some teams got feedback of being too modern with their moves.

Believe it or not, I found this to be cleaner than Boston. I know the slip ups were there, but overall execution was more uniform and controlled here. Part of it probably stems from the fact that they didn't do as many crazy innovative moves or formations, they kept it relatively simple for this comp. That said, that's only relative to themselves, because their choreo is still on another level. It's the little touches I really appreciate, like the little four step move they do going into the NJ chicken move w/ khunde. Not many teams do that, I love that they are flashy just through choreo, that they don't do cutesy shit or things symbolic of anything other than bhangra.

I'm probably on their nuts a little too much right now, but w/e. The only thing I didn't like was the part of their mix that has Hotel Room Service in it, it didn't blend well with the key of the bhangra song at that time.

Couldn't agree more. This was an OK set.
I know NJW is more than capable of performing an exceptional routine and I will keep holding them to the standard they set for themselves at Boston.

Re: Re: NJ Warriors Warriors @ BAB 2014

Hello btf, so I see a lot of people saying there are no gimmicks or wow factors and the reason for that is that we are trying to step away from all that. I understand at one point NJ had set the standard high for gimmicks but that was then and I think after that every team started focusing of gimmicks way too much than just bhangra overall. As a coach, I learned that trying to beat your own sets from before is not always a great idea, you just gotta see the rubric of whatever competition your planning on going to and make the set accordingly and that's exactly what we did here and which is to go folk and showcase raw bhangra. Our goal now is to just stick to Folk bhangra and motivate other teams to bring more folk routines aswell. If you don't like Seeing folk bhangra on music or its boring for you then you just don't have that passion or your mind is set at that gimmicky routines. We appreciate all the feedback and we are totally aware of all the mistakes and We will certainly try working on those little details for the next competition. Thank you and enjoy

Really enjoyed seeing the raw choreo and lack of gimmicks in a winning set. Would love to see NJW compete more often!
