NYU Pandemonium's Retirement

After 5 years of performing and entertaining audiences all across the world, NYU Pandemonium is hanging up their lungis and hoodies. That's right we're retiring, but we're going outwith a BANG!

First off, we'd like to thank our parents for rarely supporting us andtelling us to stop dancing around like girls and study for our exams. We'd like to thank our amazing fans without whom we would not be who we are today. We'd like to specifically thank all the hot girls out therewho motivated us to continue to come to afterparties and dance a little bit as well. Apologies to all the jealous boyfriends out there, we didn't know.

We'd also like to thank all the dance teams over the years that have competed with us and inspired us to get even better. You guys are awesome! Specifically shout out to KJ and Three Rivers who inspired usto bring bhangra to the fusion circuit in a fun and entertaining way. Big shout out to Sher Foundation for having the illest bass drops of all time. Big shoutout to POL for hating on us and hugest shoutout to BTF for always giving us good criticism and helping us to grow as a team and improve our bhangra.

Big shout out to all the NYU Teams (Bhangra, Raas-Malai, and Nasha) whohave always supported us and helped us in whatever way possible. NYU asa university has probably gone to over 100 competitions and have won more titles than any other university out there, and we owe a lot of our success to all of you who supported us!

Thanks to all the competition organizers who dealt with our drunk asses at every mixer. We were just trying to lighten the mood.

After dancing for so long, we really thought hard about what thisall meant to us. For us, dancing was all about getting on stage and just straight up tearing it up. We never danced for the judges, we sometimes danced for ourselves, but most of the time it was for the ladies. We always tried to keep true to ourselves, and without props, backdrops, glitter, bharatnatyam, or makeup, we still managed toentertain audiences all over the world.

In all honesty, it's been the greatest 5 years of lives for both ouralumni and current members. We've had an amazing experience meeting allthese wonderful teams that blow our minds. I mean the competitivenessfrom 5 years ago until now has just gone through the roof. You guys allmake us very proud to be a part of this circuit!

We'd love to see everyone come out to our Retirement Party. Whether you dance for a fusion, bhangra, garba raas, or bollywood team or whether you're just an avid fan or whether you just want to get crunk, come out to our party! It will be an awesome time and we'd love to have all our fans and supporters come thru! Please e-mail nyupandemonium@gmail.com if you would like your organization or team to be on supporters list!

I have mixed feelings about this. I'm sure by now, abhigames, you've realized that I speak my mind and this time will be no exception. You guys were SO HOTT back in the day, but I must say it is good to see you guys retire. I was just talking about the NYU Pandas with a few close friends and we reminisced on how we use to jizz our pants watching your performances back 4 years ago. You guys use to be THE all-guy fusion team that every guy wanted to be on or imitate.

But now, we really haven't seen much evolution of your choreography and style. To us, NYU Pandemonium has been the same formula (bhangra, hiphop, track jackets) and it got boring real fast. My friends and I realized that that Wanted Ashiqz were dominant in the last few years and Broadstreet recently had a really crazy set. NYU had lost its charm. Looking back, I really wish you guys took more risks, tried out more things and took advantage of any bhangra contacts you had to bring out the side of bhangra that the fusion circuit is still completely oblivious to. I'll stop pissing on your grave, because I realize you're done for whatever reason. My final words of this brutally-honest-and-probably-very-un-needed eulogy is that your performance at AKD 2006 changed more lives for the better than you could ever realize.

Kinnell that was completely unnecessary. I think if abhigames is kind of joking but also pouring his heart out into the post, this is not the right place to do it in my opinion. Yes I know it's a forum board, but some things are better left unsaid! What you had to say was just too harsh and definitely ill timed.

In any case, sad to see the Panda's go. I hope you had a great time in the circuit, you truly have entertained us! Best of luck in the future.

I spoke my mind. I tend to be very opinionated and offered my thoughts on the matter. Yeah, my timing is always bad and I'm an asshole. But it's my hot body, I'll do what I waunt! :)

Congrats on being opinionated- now try respecting that a team is retiring. They should be able to retire without having to hear you rip them for no reason.

+100 show your respect on what this team has brought to the fusion and bhangra circuits, no need to analyse them or critic them when they are announcing their retirement, should have done this before hand..........you talk a big game for a dancer that hasn't achieved much, honestly how can you be a critic when you have nothing to show for???

i dont think kinnell said anything THAT ridiculous, just that they used to be better and that their style has remained fairly static in the last 4-5 years. it might have been slightly ill-timed looking at the cirucumstance, but no one has disagreed with what he said lol.

with that said, AKD '06 was possibly one of the most entertaining fusion routines of all time..so congrats on that.

The respect is there. If you choose not to see it, then so be it. They came to the fusion circuit and left their mark. Half the people in Cleveland saw AKD 2006 thanks to me being more fanatical than a 7-year old Justin Bieber fan. It's hard to stay on top and I think teams sometimes need to throw in the towel when they realize they've hit a plateau. No one died here, so let's just chill out here. Team retirement means very little in the dance world, especially for an university-affiliated team. And, I completely forgot that you need to have been award-winning movie director in order to be a movie critic. Next time you're watching a football game and you want to rip on the coach for a bad play, stfu and sit back down - you've never coached a professional football team, you don't know what you're talking about.

All I did was attend the Pandas funeral and say "NYU Pandemonium, when I first met you, you were the craziest mofo I had ever met. I told everyone I met you and how amazing you were. But then your jokes got old and you weren't as fun any more. We really didn't chill as much but I wish we did. You lived a good life, but it was your time to go. Just remember that you changed my life." I apologize if you can't see that. It actually sad to think that if I had not posted with such a "controversial goodbye", this may not have gotten the publicity on BTF that it is currently getting. Don't believe me? Check how enthusiastic everyone is about anything NYU Pandemonium related that abhigames has posted in the past year.

Thank you, Nikhil B. for seeing that. And Kunal, if we had negative karma, you can bet your medical school ass that we would get less honesty on this forum and more unconstructive but overtly positive fluff like "sick!!!!" and "killed it!!!".

Guys, in the end ripping kinnell for his comments does a disservice to the thread as well, so if you really feel his post was unnecessary then help keep it on topic (there are certainly times to confront things you disagree with, I personally feel this is not one of them)

If there is one thing that hasn't changed in 5 years....it's that panda guys are still assholes and still know how to have a great time at a competition. We hung out with them as SAS this year, and they had legions of fans throwing themselves to hang out with Panda, so Abhi is right.

Fans first, all else second :p

I don't know if you realize, but NYU Pandemonium has always been a team of entertainment. I remember competing against them this past year, and those guys were the only ones drunk at the mixer and were the first ones to leave after the show was over to start their pre-game for the after-party. As Abhigames says, "For us, dancing was all about getting on stage and just straight up tearing it up. We never danced for the judges, we sometimes danced for ourselves, but most of the time it was for the ladies." To them, entertaining was all that mattered, and that is exactly what they did for 5 years. Maybe for you it got old, but for most other people out there, the hip-hop/bhangra battle was unique and entertaining.

According to Punjabi University's Advanced Learner's Dictionary...Lungi is also a correct term. Even guys that have taught me in India say Lungi in place of Chadra.

Anyway, I really hope that NYU Pandemonium isn't really finished. You guys have been one of the most entertaining fusion team over the past 5 years, and your quote is simply amazing..."Competition 2nd, After-party 1st." I wish you all the best of luck in the future and hope you have a great time at your going away party.

Kinnell...I find your post rude and completely disrespectful to anyone that has ever been apart of pandemonium or has appreciated the show that they put on. Should you have all these opinions then perhaps share them in the appropriate thread like a panda performance video.
