From Cornell, I want to clarify that this thread, nor any of the posts on the other blowout thread, is from our team. We are also not in the business of paying people to post on online forums for us. We try to save our money for more fruitful endeavors such as Pao Bhangra. Speaking of Pao Bhangra, it's next week!

That being said, we appreciate the support from those of you that are speaking your mind. Don't post our video yet, we will be posting our video tonight for you all to see.

I'll reserve my comments on the competition until later today as well.

Moderator's Note: Merged the threads

Side note, it's important to remember that placings are the opinion of a few people, arbitrarily arrived at by a difficult-to-execute point system, filtered by a rubric. To sit and complain is ridiculous, especially without the context of the rubric. It's better to highlight that you though a team did well and give them recognition then put all the placing teams on blast.

Much respect for stating your opinion and supporting the team you thought deserved the trophy. But at the very least be tactful, and don't dick teams reps (i.e. Cornell in this case) when you have nothing to do with them ( "can argue all 3 teams that placed had no business placing." -indiaman5)

congratulations to every team that competed at this competition. honestly loved every performance that we got a chance to watch. MSU really surprised me because while their style was very modern, they were definitely one of the cleanest performances of the night, and they had so much swag. props to making history and being the first all-girls team to compete at blowout!

cal absolutely ripped it. so did vtech and steel city. i really loved steel city's vardiyaan. :)

and while i cant say im on the same page as indiaman09, i really loved watching cornell. your nakhre was phenomenal and im glad you got to execute some gimmicks that were riskier than what others would have tried. i definitely agree that taking risks makes a team stand out just as much if not more than a perfectly executed but much simpler set.

didnt get to watch drexel or NYU. cant wait to see the videos. loved meeting everyone and really hope we get a chance to come back next year!!

Congrats to the placing teams! Apparently the audience was empty which is on the comp and sucks. Blowout has been dying out for years now, would like to see if they can refresh and reboot next year.

There was a comment earlier that the cleanliness of sets, due to the simplicity of the sets, is winning competitions this year. Its important to note that there is a big difference between executing a simple set, and making a very difficult set look simple. The latter is achieved through endless practice, dedication, and effort in addition to a core set of seasoned, strong dancers.

VCU 3 years back and UNC this year have been able to achieve this. Most college teams (and non collegiate) used to study VCU videos to learn how to do a step because of the flawless execution. Now its common to watch UNC as well.

it takes much more to achieve flawless execution then it does to land a saap toss, LED jhoomar, or even crazy mela. It was odd to see teams having members fall or mess up at Elite 8. Its odd that we are ok with this at the biggest stage on the circuit. And its really odd to hear that cleanliness shouldn't win you a comp if your set is difficult but not super risky.

Now to be fair collegiate teams have the advantage of always being together and consistently practicing and performing. Non-collegiate just doesnt have that luxury because were either spread across the country, have jobs, or cant find a decent place to practice where you dont have to where sneakers! This may be why were all so forgiving. What do you think, should this change? Has this opinion formed over the past few years by influx of non-collegiate teams filled with amazing dancers?

on a side note, excited to see what comes out of Bayside Bhangra next weekend with CMU and MBT both winning this past weekend and FAUJ and KGPD killing it this year.

Cleanliness is the most important thing. Everything else takes a secondary role. While a set is a holistic organism, cleanliness is what keeps it tight and together. This is a dance competition, and execution and cleanliness always have, and always should be the most important factor. When a team like UNC or VCU beats a more creative team who is less clean, that's the way it should go. If you're not clean, but you're creative, too bad. You should have practiced harder and cleaner more. Boring + Clean always wins, whether you like it or not.

Faiz is that really you?? WHO IS THIS IMPOSTER? I kid I kid. But I agree, creativity without execution is meaningless unless it's really revolutionary, which frankly doesn't fit most of the 'creative' ideas that come out these days. Fun yes, but not so much so that you can rest on it alone.

Swi, although I don't like what I said, I have also accepted the fact that it's reality, and no amount of gimmicks can beat a clean performance. VCU at elite 1, and UNC at elite 3 proved this. Time to put the arguments to rest and work on cleaning.

But, on the other hand, cleanliness doesn't necessarily get you respect, esp. when it's coupled with a boring, safe performance :)

Anyone know why VCU didn't perform at Blowout this year? I was under the impression that the previous year's placing teams (VCU got 3rd at BB 18) were guaranteed a spot in the following year. Maybe they decided themselves not to, but in the past Blowout has been a big comp for them with so many 1st place finishes in the recent past.
