I would have to say the one person who really got me pumped about truly getting into the bhangra scene is Akshay from Northeastern Bhangra (NU Bhangra). I always had a passion for bhangra music cuz of the incredible beats and chose to try out for the team on my own, but once I got on the team, I never would have been so enthusiastic about Bhangra if Akshay wasn't the captain at the time. No matter how much we got along or he pissed me off, in the end we'd simply obsess over nothing but Bhangra and ever since, I eat, sleep, breathe Bhangra.

ps. shout out to VCU Bhangra for simply being an additional inspiration...the one team I will never be able to forget

Well I used-to be really bad at bhangra believe it or not. But since I started watching videos of VCU I just really wanted to be good as them and then I went onto the fourth page of VCU bhangra videos on Youtube and found a bhangrateamsforum add

Being born a punjabi it was in my blood to do bhangra.
But to name someone who really developed the way i danced until i was ready to get out of the nest per say was probably Kamaljit Kaur Flower.
Love you phen mareee ey. Really hepled me flourish into a wonderful dancer

Also BMW has really hepled me develop into a way better dancer.
Because all of them dance at sucha high caliber i feel like i owe them to dance with all of what i have.

I started bhangra when i was 13, but on a small India International school team, and I owe my beginning efforts to Aparna Puri, who was my teacher for about four years. Entering the college scene, I would have to say Nikhil, Benny, Arjun, Havish and Sheel have definitely inspired me to become a better dancer and keep striving for the best. Basically the dancer I am now is because of their efforts and patience to give constant feedback and help, I still have a long ways to go, but without them I probably wouldn't be half the dancer I am today. So I don't have just one person I would point out, obviously there's been multiple people that have got me more into the bhangra scene and they definitely deserve a big thank you, so thanks so much guys!

My inspiration has always been my sis, Sonali Johal, she's younger than me, so its funny but she's a SICKK dancer. Everyone's always compared the two of us when we dance, since we were like 5 and because of that we always have our own competition going on and I think it makes both of us work hard. Sona's more of a graceful and traditional dancer and when she does live I think it compares to most guys team, which generally u can't get with girls.

Otherwise, I don't think anyone is an inspiration because I've met a lot of people who preach what they don't practise. The only reason I even do bhangra is because its fun to dance, the 8-10 mins u spend up there on the stage make everything worth it and when ur doing two competitions at once its worthwhile.
