On behalf of the Rangla Punjab committee, we are very sorry to inform you that the results were messed up on during calculations and the following are the actual placings for the Rangla Punjab Bhangra competition. We know this may upset some teams but once again, we are very sorry for the inconvenience that this may cause and overall all the teams did a great job and we thank you for coming out and being a part of the competition. So here we go..

1. NSM^2
2. PANJ
3. Michigan Bhangra

These results may cause some controversy but we assure you that these are the accurate result after calculated this morning by the organizer. There was a committee who tried to change the results and hence there were different results announced on stage. Once again, sorry for the inconvenience.

I originally intended to hold true to the classic saying that if you dont have anything nice to say, then dont say anything at all, but this takes me over the edge.

rangla punjab is THE WORST competition out there. it started off fine with the committee adjusting to our travel plans and getting us from the airport relatively quickly (about an hour and ahalf). from that point on everything was a disaster. after trying to contact our "liaison" we decided to just do our own thing and explore seattle (shoutout to ajit). We were told that the mixer was scheduled to start at 6 pm, but then around 5:50, committee members were scrambling through the hallways tell teams that the mixer wouldnt start till 7. Thats fine, we understand an hour delay and that no big deal. We got to the mixer at 6:45 ish and did our thing and chilled for a while. We chilled a little longer. and then some more. then around 8:45, the mixer finally started going. This wasnt entirely the committees fault, other competing teams def share the blame for this. Its disrespectful to other teams to show up nearly two hours late, and its a pain in the ass for those trying to cope with any form of jetlag. Back to the mixer. It was awkward. There was no sense that the committee wanted us there, or wanted us to have fun. Show order was picked by having teams draw their lineup spots from a hat. That order was decided by the order in which you bull rushed the committee member with the hat. It was what it was, nbd, we danced after that and called it a night.

It wasnt till saturday when poo really hit the fan. Tech times ran a solid 2 hours late (and im being generous by saying it was 2 hours). There were no committee members at the hotel, no liaisons in sight, and no one answering any questions. After waiting in the lobby of our hotel for a while, we finally got to the venue where we found the committee and the liaisons! All of them were sitting there doing nothing (besides just hanging out and chit-chatting to one another). Overall, tech times ran fairly smoothly, which we were very thankful for. We got back to our hotel did our thing and then waited for our ride back to the venue. We kept getting mixed responses saying that we werent getting picked up when we asked, and that we were going to have to wait, or that we were, and it was very confusing, so we just went to the lobby and waited. The show started around one and a half hours late, and no one was running back stage. They decided to have a judges meeting about an hour before the show was going to start, which is nice, but they took captains from 3 teams and then made them wait for about 20-30 minutes while they did nothing about getting the other captains, but insisted the meeting couldnt start without them. the show finally started, and ran pretty smoothly. we decided ourselves where we should be and when, but it worked out. after the show, our team got all of our props/vardiyaan together and sat by the venue waiting to get taken back to the hotel. several committee members drove by said they couldnt take them back to the hotel because they had to drive their friends to the after party and left. our team waited, waited some more, and then decided that its only a mile and a half so theyll just walk. as theyre walking back the lone transportation van pulled up next to them, they put their props in the van, and asked the driver to wait at the hotel so they could unload it themselves and make sure they dont loose anything. the committee members said she couldnt wait because she was going to the after party. while scb was walking back, I, along with 2 other scb members, watched the madness at the judges room. after it had been going on for around 45 minutes, I asked a committee member how much longer the team that was up was going to take, and she said she didnt know (in a very rude way), i asked if we could speak to the judges at the hotel and she said no (also in a very rude way). we finally got to speak to the judges (about another 30 minutes later) and then walked back to the hotel. Our flights back were at 6 am, so we had to leave from the hotel around 4 am. committee lost the keys to the van to take us, complained that they had to take us, and were in questionable states. the driver of the car i was in said "thank god im sober" to which i replied "why, who isnt sober" to which she replied "i wasnt a little bit ago" to which an scb member replied "we have 3 people who havent drank in the car, we can drive" to which she replied "no, its okay, i usually drink way more than i did tonight." nuff said.

This committee had great intentions. I truly support the cause the competition is working for, and I hope your night was a success. But overall, the committee was clueless about anything going on, never gave clear responses, was completely rude to everyone on our team, didnt provide anything for the teams, completely unreliable, and completely absent throughout the weekend.

This next part is completely my opinion and does not reflect the opinion of my team. Please do not start disliking or knocking my team(s) because of my opinions. It is okay if you dislike me though.

To the team that caused a riot after the competition. You are a disgrace to bhangra as an organization. It was absolutely disgusting how you reacted to the results of the competition. You were not only disrespectful to the judges, but you were disrespectful to all of the teams you competed against that night. I could never imagine cursing and being so absence in front of my parents, someone else's parents, or anyone for that matter. I really dont care if you deserved first, or if you even deserved to place. I promise you that every single member of every single team that was at Rangla will remember you for one reason (and it will not be your performance). You did not deserve to be on stage with the teams that competed that night, and I personally will discredit you guys as a team representing the bhangra community.

Michigan and the girls from Barb-b ripped it!!!- the pictures have been taken, the results were announced, the congrats have been given and facebook statuses have been updated! Thats all ppl will remember :)

Don't know who this is in relation to, but I'm terrified of what the bhangra scene is going to be like in 10 years.

Harman didn't say it but I will. NSM was incredibly disrespectful and a disgrace after the competition. I'm talking dancers AND parents were yelling at judges, at each other, etc. Now I won't get into it more than that because who knows, maybe the arguments were legitimate. Maybe the judges commented on the use of babas/gurus in an intro video. Maybe they commented on the use of the indian flag during the performance. Maybe it got very emotional because the performance seemed pretty personal to the team. I don't know, I only heard bits and pieces clearly but the volume and tone was loud and clear.

It's understandable to be upset, and it's fine to demand accountability. But the way the displeasure was communicated was absolutely ridiculous. every team saw it, every team commented on it, and every team instantly lost respect.

However, they're not responsible for the placings changing. Responsibility is with committee only.

Committee should straight up come out and tell everyone (or at least the competing teams, especially barb and mbt) what the discrepancy was. Ok, it was points. Provide the scoresheets (which must exist since you retabulated them). Let the teams know who this 'committee' was that 'tried to change the results' and be honest. Because you best believe we can talk to the judges and find out what they decided behind closed doors. If it was a matter of points deducted when shouldn't have been, fine. It's all understandable, if you just explain it.

Credibility is lost, but transparency moving fwd is how you get it back. The mission of the charity for RP is great, stay focused on that and out of the controversy. The teams deserve a better answer, and seattle deserves a better effort

--------------

shoutout to abc juniors btw who were adorable and very talented. Watching the interaction of the bache and the coaches/parents gave us an interesting contrast to the tone, mindset, and actions of much older dancers/parents later in the night.

Wow. A few blunt points:

1. It's obviously a disgrace for this to happen at any competition. That said, if this updated story is truth, you owe it to all parties involved to scan and PUBLISH the judges' scoresheets with judges' signatures. I'd even want the judges to come on here and confirm. I agree w/ Swi that, to manage this crisis, you better say who this secret "committee" was. You have just catapulted a team that did not even place into 1st place.

2. I trust Swi and if NSM really behaved so poorly, I would strip them of a title anyway.

3. As a judge, I've never been in a situation where the team that all judges thought were in the Top-3 somehow did NOT make it into placings off the numbers. What sort of process did you have that no one told the judges that this team, who SUPPOSEDLY had the highest points from a number of judges, did not even make it into top three??

You need more information on BTF ASAP. Just posting "J/K guys, NSM^2 actually won" is not a solution.

Again, I'm not saying NSM didn't have legitimate points. I wasn't a part of the 'conversation', maybe they did deserve first. There are scenarios that can lead to this situation. BUT, the manner that all this happened was ridiculous, and the lack of scoresheets is inexcusable (and judges were fantastic). I feel for all the teams because everyone was honestly friendly and jovial all weekend, and this just leaves a sour taste

This competition had one of the most legit and fair group of judges that I know of. I have never been to a better judges meeting for feedback before. The judges gave us so much feedback that it felt like they were a part of the set from mixes, to actual moves, to pointing out individual faults, segments they were/were not fond of, things that I didn't even notice while watching my team perform.

This is the type of judging panel you need which will bring the integrity back into juding. They went by score sheets and deliberation.

We never won and they gave me 101 reasons why and how we can make it better.

This may sound a bit harsh, but if you don't know what you're doing, then you really should not throw a competition. Rangla's lack of responsibility not only wasted the time of multiple hardworking teams, but your utter lack of respect and poor judgment has hurt so many good people on the circuit. You should be ashamed. Please seek proper counsel before putting on another competition.

The committee coming out and changing the placings because of score is meaningless: The judges told all of the captains in the captains meeting that points are not going to be the deciding factor. They would deliberate among themselves to decide the placings while using the score sheets as a helper.

With that in mind, it is hard to believe that if NSM^2 had the highest score, they would not have placed at all in the original rankings. The judging panel as HK said was amazing with the feedback they gave us. They all are accomplished people in the bhangra circuit and have been through their own judging debacles. It is still a shocker that they sat there for almost an hour taking the banter from NSM^2 and their families.

If the committee comes out with the score sheets and the calculations are as the committee is saying, then maybe the judging panel was not as good as we thought they were. Until then, we should dismiss the original post in this thread.

one team doesn't defy the circuit. The rest of us had a hell of a good time :)
