Welcome to Washington. That's exactly why I do not miss about my former state. There are only two things in Washington, hicks and hippies. I'm sorry to hear about your experience but the further out you go from Seattle, the worst it gets. These comments were pretty mild compared to what I heard over the years.

I didn't say you shouldn't have placed =) ALL I said was that if one person's injury was made public then all injuries should have been or.....none of them should have been. I agree with your logic though, better to have DJ dance with or without props than get a last minute person like Amy to sub. Probably would've put my injured dancer in myself!

Another note to add onto Bharthi's, JDonsanjh i understand you're saying that you would like to have a clean performance and not place, but your coach just stated that he intentionally let the judges know that the girl had a cast on and was performing.

My personal opinion is that Bhangra if not already is a Sport. That means if it were the Provincial soccer championships and someone had a broken arm or leg no one is going to feel bad and give you a handicap in winning. This there should be no room for this in bhangra. If you're not holding a khoonda then you should automatically be docked the points. There's no reason for your coach to go to the judges and request a bias scoring based on an injury.

I was at the hospital when Kamal (my fav lil kid on shan-e) was getting a cast for breaking his arm during a bhangra stunt. He did NOT dance at IPFF and his team still won 1st. Akash Patel from PCAC was in a car accident immediately after IPFF, he also broke his arm. He DID perform and not once did they approach the judging panel in request for bias judging.

I am in no way saying you guys did not deserve to place, I'm just trying to let you know you are not having very good communication within your team, or out to everyone else on BTF.

Sunny.. the funny thing is dj ripped it up with a broken arm.
From what i heard after the comp ..the judges decided before
we competed.. that if she had a bad preformance they wud deff
minus point, but if she had a good preformance they would think
about it. The girl killed it on stage. Nukra, energy & everything
she couldn't hold props? but she diffenetly made up for it on stage.
BTF :) i can't waiit for ALL the videos to be up :) then you can judge
these videos ur self and watch dj doing jhummar with her
Code:
big
cast LOL

Congrats to AVA girls on placing first at Rangla. However I must agree with Sunny and Barathi. I find it pretty ridiculous the fact that, I'm guessing it was Juggi, went up to the Judges to tell them they had an injured dancer. I feel bad for the girl [dont get me wrong there], but like said before she did have the choice to step out.

Bhangra with one dancer not using the props, whereas the rest of your team is, is a big area of point deduction. Sympathy points? You're kidding me right? Why didn't Akash from pcac get any sympathy points for his team? He did have a broken arm however he did use all props that were necessary.

I'm sure if any other team that competed at Rangla and pulled an AVA off, AVA would also be reacting the same as everyone else is reacting right now. You [AVA] won't agree with me, and will have something to say about this, but just put yourself in that situation. I'm sure you would say it's either a lie, or they're just scared they wont place so they had to pull something off.

Why weren't any other injuries brought up? Looks from the sounds of it Juggi wanted not so much of fair play. Bhangra is supposed to be for fun where everyone just goes out there and gives it their all, judges are fair to all teams, and there's none of this sympathy bullshit.

Rangla better luck with this next time :)
To all the teams, keep up the good work

went up to the judges the MC anounced it while we where waiting for
the comp ppl to download our introvid to pass time. We where kewl with
the points being taken off :S but obvs haters are gunna hate

I think you're looking for excuses to tell us DJ did a good job. We're not denying that she did a good job. And to say that Akash's injury was not that bad, are you serious? Maybe you should not represent your team and come on BTF telling us about injuries. A car accident is a major deal, he spent the night in a hospital, do not try to sit there and convince yourself and your team and your coach that you guys not being deducted was justified because other peoples injuries were "not that bad".

Soon every team is going to go to the judging panel telling them that they don't know bhangra, so is it okay if we break dance? Honestly with the bhangra mentality these days, I would not be surprised.

And I commend her efforts for being on stage and doing a great job, as did the rest of the team, but try to realize the point of what people are trying to get across here. Sportsmanship is a concept lacking in bhangra these days, and obviously I can see from your point of you, you're one of the youth lacking sportsmanship.

[/quote]Just to clearify with the world we didnt do it for sympathy points. We did because the girl couldnt hold any props. Letting the judges know seemed proper to me. it was up to them to dock to points or to score as they saw us. But, I get what your saying

As for dancing like a folk guys team :) I will take that as a compliment thanks ;)[/quote]

As i've stated before obviously there is obvious communication issue in your team. Cleary Juggy has stated there that he talked to the judges. Maybe you should come up with a better story.

I'm sorry bro, but this isn't really the competitions fault either. Your mix wasn't ready until 2pm, the day of the show? It seems that your team wasn't really prepared for the show. Most competitions wouldn't have allowed you to submit a revised mix after the stage rehearsal, so that's a +1 for the Rangla Punjab committee for even being flexible enough to make the effort of downloading/checking a new mix.

A lot goes on behind the scenes at these shows, and it's very simple to forget that "hey, we have to play a revised cd" instead of the one they already have in their possession.

Furthermore, how much could you have changed in the mix to make it affect you on stage that bad, and why would you change so much just 3 hours before a show?

No offense to you and your team brother, please don't take this as a personal attack. From my point of view, the competition ran extremely well considering this was a first year competition. I was sitting dead center and the venue honestly had one of the cleanest system's I had ever heard. Many people are bringing up accusations to convey that there may have been personal issues or grudges, how come nobody is praising them for doing all this hard work for a charitable cause?

no big.. well prove our selves next comp
all your doing is giving us more motivation
thanks :)
Congratulations on your trophy, and I hope this does motivate you. But I really hope that as good as your Bhangra was, so were your manners. Juggy taught you bhangra really well, too bad he did not teach you modesty. You have also given me motivation now too.

Davinder that sucks...we were sitting right next to the judges and all we could hear (and feel) were base drops which is why we humbly requested that you post your mix? Because the beginning sounded great =D

Jassu not one person here is saying that DJ didn't do a good job. Quite the contrary, she danced better than a lot of people out there with or without a cast, as she always has in the comps I've seen her perform at. Like I pointed out to you girls right after the competition, aside from the props you could not tell that she was injured in her execution of the rest of the routine. The underlying point that everyone is making is that notification of injuries to judges should be across the board for all teams involved, or not at all.

Rangla Punjab I did have a lot to say but all in all for a first year comp with a great underlying cause you did well and I hope you made enough of a profit to make a generous donation on behalf of Seattle's Indo Canadian community. It's always a pleasure to be involved in something beneficial to the community like this.

I'm with Harjot, generally a competition will only play the mix that is played during dress rehearsal. Sometimes that means getting it in a week before, sometimes that means bringing a cd during your stage time.

Either way, by being late with it, you put yourselves at risk for this situation and it's truly unfortunate given the work you must have put in. The only issue I see is the organizers not being clear about which mix is being used, should have simply said no, you can't change it. But I'm sure they were trying to be accommodating for you and it simply is too hectic day of competition to make such switches.

unfortunate man, live and learn and dance again

Yo Parmar why are you making it such a big deal? Its bhangra...... Dj Danced cuz she is loyal and her team needed help.

I did talk to the judges about the performance BUT AFTER we got named first place.... To ask if everything was fair and two judges told me it was.....So sorry for that misunderstanding

And i told the organizer before i went on stage and before we did tech time about how many pts were going to be knocked they said 5 off each page. They also said getting the mc to announce it on stage is proper.

If you have any further problems you have my phone number call me and I will clearify any other ?'s you have

Yeah we understand that....it's just if they weren't 100% that they could play our final mix they shouldve just said no. Not lead us on...simple as that... Yeah we made a mistake bu not having the mix ready but they made a bigger mistake by leading us on and not sticking to what they had told us. So you could only hear base drops???? How did that happen???

I'm not making this a big deal, I'm just underlining the point that you guys were not deducted points where you should have been. All your team has done on BTF is retort, argue, and give no reasoning for getting "sympathy" points. Whether or not those points would have caused you guys to place 1st or not is not any of my concern. My concern is for the future of bhangra and the direction it is taking. If teams are allowed to tell the judges how they want to be scored then we might as well just get rid of the criteria and let the judges choose who they think is best.

You being a bhangra dancer who has been injured at competition would know that there's no excuse for using it as a way of giving yourself a bias on a scorecard.

Your team did well, shut up and enjoy it, just remember what you're trying to teach the youth about bhangra. It's a sport, not a "sympathy" game. If you can not do everything that you're supposed to do on stage, don't be on there. And if you are going to be on stage, do it all. That's the way its always been, and that is the way it should be. I'm not going to respond to any of your teams posts on this matter anymore. I feel like I'm talking to elementary school children.

My personal bhangra choices are not of your concern. It's just interesting how after having nothing to say to defend the fact that you needed to sway the judges into your favor because your team was unorganized and was unable to find a dancer capable of being able to perform properly, you target me because I choose to call you out on a bias scorecard.

Its a good thing you spent those extra years in high school finishing up, that's if you did. I only thought your team was in high school didn't realize you were still there. My mistake.
