Are we posting reviews here? Here's mine:
Comp started a full hour late. It's ok we got lost thanks to AmyDee's directions
MC was fine, he handled the hecklers in the back properly. Speaking of the hecklers in the back nicely sitting RIGHT behind us, if you can't have respect for the all girls team(s) or the other girls on stage, maybe you should snap into this century and realize that girls do bhangra too. I found your despicable comments rude, disrespectful and degrading to women. You might not have moms or sisters at home, or maybe were not taught to respect women so next time you're at a competition, just keep your mouths shut and your stupid comments in your head. This is a family show and there were lots of non-Indians there and you made everyone around you uncomfortable with your lewd remarks. The people on stage before you put countless hours into their routines and here to display culture and sportsmanship, and don't need your negativity while they are on stage. VERY uncalled for.
Shan-E Punjab - it was awesome to see Pinda on stage after SO long! The pink jodi had sick energy. Their kato fell offstage when they put them down that didn't throw anyone off. They brought out the junior cutie pies in new vardiyaan at the end as a gimmick, they killed it as usual. They could be cleaner and more uniform as a team I found some moves were executed really different by all dancers.
PCAC - great energy and crazy formations for a 8 man team. I prefer to see them with more dancers. The stunt in the mela scene with Akash on top with his poor broken arm was sick and one of the few stunts of the night. I like that their mix had a good variation as far as speed of songs. CRAZY mela scene!
Husky Bhangra – 1st co-ed team of the night. The short girl in the red and the 2 asian guys just KILLED it, the formations were clean for a 12 person set on a smaller stage. Their energy was consistent throughout.
MPD was a great exhibition team and definitely have tons of potential. Are the girls in the red jodi twins?
AVA – very clean and a huge improvement from IPFF. You girls are on a roll keep it up! Your intro was changed from that dollhouse thing, so that was nice. There’s no WOW factor to this performance, it reminds me of really traditional all guys’ teams. Ericka your improvement as a dancer is an inspiration to all new dancers. DJ, good on you, nobody could tell you had a broken arm by your dance execution; however, if MCs are starting to announce injuries on teams before they perform then it should be consistent for everyone as PCAC also had a broken arm, and I’m sure numerous dancers on other teams have back/knee injuries, I saw PCBCA and a few other teams with people with knee braces and ankles and feet taped up. If you’re injured to the point it’s hampering your performance ability you always have the option to step out, don’t use it for sympathy points with the MC announcing it.
NSM – the gori was SICKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK! I’m not a fan of the color combination I think they could pick something brighter. A lot of the girls are not on the same level as the girl towards the front the whole time, and it shows because the weaker girls are towards the back the entire time. Also the girls line barely ever if at all came in front of the guys line which in a co-ed set I found a bit odd. Great energy though and good nakhra from your dancers featured at the front.
Folkal Attraction – sloppy intro. A Pagh fell but was treated respectfully and placed off stage, didn’t show on the guy’s face the rest of the performance. Tons of crowd support for this hometown team, maybe you can post your mix because none of us heard it over your crowd. Dancers seemed to forget bits of the routine (when to squat, when to turn, when to change moves), and the car/bike stunt reminded me of LBC at Bruin 2009. I’m sorry to say that for a team with so many experienced dancers, I was expecting a cleaner execution.
MVP – great new team! Formations were a bit off, the stage was small and they had a lot of dancers. The petite girl in the front a lot had such a contagious smile she was a pleasure to watch. Huge potential, waiting for great things out of these guys!
AG - poor guys looked REALLY cramped. They had great energy and sick formations, looked a bit SGPDish to me. Props to the 2 guys who fell they got right back up and back into it. All the girls in my section ooh-d and aah-d over your DDLJ gimmick. The beginning was different from all the other all guys teams and was really good. I think if it weren’t for the falls you’d have been my pick for 1st.
PCBCA – what can I say? Crisp, clean and very well executed. They have been placing all over the place and were a shoo-in for 1st place at this comp it was EASILY the cleanest routine of the night. Hands down.
Guys – please learn to pin your chaadray. A guys team we know uses 2 pins and we never see any leg or soccer shorts from them, please take a cue.
More than half an hour elapsed between the last act and the results being announced….a competitor later shared with me that there were two 3rd place trophies? That’s funny because whenever we’ve tied for anything with anyone we’ve had to “share” the trophy ie. One team takes it right then and another trophy is made for the other team. Funny how two were made initially?
To the teams in the hotel – COME ON MAN!!!! Getting kicked out the night BEFORE the competition? When we got there on Saturday morning the first thing we were told is that there’s a zero tolerance policy tonight (Saturday) and that people were going to get kicked out (like they had on Friday night) we were thinking WTF….why is that the FIRST thing they’d say…to a group of girls? I understand that everyone wants to drink and have fun etc. etc. but to be consistently kicked out of hotels is a pain. As Atinder pointed out with Masti, and as I can vouch for Bhangra Bash, both comps provided an area for boli sessions and other some such, leaving less teams (if any) getting kicked out. Aside from that seriously maybe we can start controlling our alcohol consumption and start behaving like the adults that we are instead of having hotels ban bhangra competitions going forward. This kind of behavior is not really acceptable beyond the age of 12? Do people act like this at home?
Congrats to all the teams that placed. My placings would have been
1st PCBCA
2nd PCAC
3rd AVA/AG – because even with the errors, AG was still cleaner and more energetic and had more entertainment factor than some of the other teams.
Just my opinion, if I offended anyone or hurt anyone’s ego I mean feelings I’m sorry.
