Sue's right about this ridiculous devotion to live bhangra where it doesn't belong. This team could perform at America's Best Dance Crew and when they lose, people on this forum would write it off, saying the judges "just don't appreciate *real* bhangra".
hahah yeah... 8 intoxicated gorillas could attempt a live bhangra routine at a goddamn spelling bee and people on this forum would still denounce the judges as unappreciative of bhangra and punjabi culture.

live bhangra, especially if it isn't executed to absolute perfection, isn't that exclusive of a talent in comparison to what might be hidden amongst a population of 1 billion.

to those so strongly advocating the noteworthiness and difficulty of what shivchand messily showcased... there are more challenging feats out there (i'd put money on it)... you just gotta be willing to appreciate beyond your comfort zone.

Banana Chaadres. Banana scented saaps. And a Bananas in Pajamas gimmick.

I don't think they should have performed there. Like someone said, this is more like a magic show.

Bachhai hain, lights? wtf? haha, jw/shan-e are kids, and they love the lights.
I think what the guy meant was that they were dancing LIGHTLY, not that the lights affected their performance. Also, I agree that the performance wasn't amazing but it wouldn't have killed the judges to be a little nicer seeing that it's a kid team.

he clearly blames the lighting for being too hot and direct on the team which ultimately lead to poor stamina. i don't see how you can even try to come up with another conclusion unless you don't speak the language which is then understandable.

I went back and saw it and yes he does blame the lighting, I misunderstood later on in the conversation (around 5:03) when he asks if anyone has done live bhangra on the show before, it almost sounds like he's saying "light kia hai" instead of "live kia hai" which is why I thought that.

Only one judge thought they were professional dancers. And even she was implying that these software engineers must have some training. They did a fusion dance, anyone could see that. I don't think the judges were under the impression that this was a showcase of folk bhangra alone. The younger judge herself pointed out that she was shocked that mere students could put this dance together.

On this show, which is a showcase of entertainment: students + hip hop + bhangra + popular poppy bhangra songs > live bhangra with no frills.

I'm not laughing at the video, I'm impressed by their strategy for moving to the next round. Just as I would be if Empire made it to the next round for america's got talent...

The coach should've just taken the buzzers and walked out instead of trying to make excuses. That being said, it's obvious they didn't get through because they're doing live. As some of you have said, this isn't a bhangra competition and this act wouldn't appeal to the masses, but let's be real, the judges excuses were complete bull shit. They couldn't just come out and say, "o we're sorry. we don't think people will like you so we're not letting you through." Instead they made up some shit that made no sense.

Dharminder himself says the singing and dhol were good but the dancers weren't on par, and then the old lady goes..the singer sucks? gtfo here. and the young one, let's not even talk about her. I'm surprised people that actually do bhangra are nitpicking Shivchand. Just because three actors thought shivchand sucked doesn't mean they did. You don't have to believe it, but Shivchand got kicked out because they did bhangra properly and these judges and producers aren't in the business of promoting Bhangra. There's nothing wrong with that, but there is something wrong with making up dumb excuses which both the coach and the judges did.

Judges thought these guys in this video were professional bhangra dancers. If this video was put up on btf, most of you would be laughing.
