2 days of partial team practice + 1 morning of full team practice = smd bhangra club :)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PuhfE-Qytos

also, couple of shoutouts
a) to faizan who pulled double chimta bitch duty and came through like a true gentleman for smd, thanks and much love and appreciation to you
b) to the other bhangra team in the audience who decided it would be a good idea to start chanting "khalsa junction", "vcu", and "smd sucks me" during our live portion and throw the girls off beat. its quite a classy move and very respectful to the bhangra stage. we know who you are. smd rolls deep.

enjoy, and any and all feedback would be greatly appreciated as we look to improve upon this performance.

ok, the dudes screaming for KJ are the posterchildren for abortion.

let me start off by saying I love the girls of SMD. They're sweet as hell, and it was fun hanging out with them when they weren't practicing their asses off.

I say that if they weren't practicing so much that day, and if the practices weren't last minute-then the energy would be a lot better. There were points were the girls were forgetting moves and formations. I think as time goes on, hopefully practices won't be rushed-and these errors would be kept to a minimal.

Props segment was pretty good. I think if anything in the mix I couldn't hear Sidrah's voice-kinda threw me off.

Also I wish there was an extra something to add style to the performance. I don't know how exactly-Its 2:30AM, I can't think.

For a first time performance that was 2 days of partial team practice + 1 morning of full team practice, I think it's a good starting point to build up on. The girls worked hard, and I think it'll get a lot better from here.

A good performance, Sulman/SMD! Yeah, the audience was lame, but audiences can be lame at times. As said before, a bit messy at times, but the team is definitely bringing something creative to the circuit. Just needs practice.

While a teams can have unfortunate circumstances, not having enough practices is not an excuse to perform poorly. If a team is not prepared, they should not perform or be prepared to be accountable for a messy performance. It's unfair to teams that either practice hard for competitions or practice a few times, but perform well because it holds a team's bad performance at a higher level than it should be. I'm not saying that SMD performed poorly or anything (because I liked what I saw), I'm just not a big fan of the "few practices excuse". Critique what is seen. Just my thoughts.

You ladies have a lot of potential to be a threat to not only the other girl teams but co-ed teams as well. I've never seen girls go live, and so the execution can definitely be cleaned up and perfected. The singer, while I admire it being a female (for girls doing live), should sing with more "raag"...she should try to be more aggressive during bhangra and dhamaal. If that cannot be done, I recommend a good male singer.

I personally liked the performance, although there were some awkward segments of choreography. Was this really live or was it pre-recorded? In the beginning it sounded as if the dhol was being played faster than it should have been.

Last note: I'm sickened by the assholes that were chanting Khalsa Junction during a live performance. Have some damn respect. If this was some group of drunk hooligans attending the show for fun, than that's a lost cause. But if this was coming from a COMPETING TEAM...you should be ashamed of yourselves, and you should question whether or not you can go to competition and be respectful. F*cking unbelievable.

+1! My thoughts exactly.

For as little practise as these girls had, they were quite good. I'm sure they can improve on this performance with more preparation.. but I appreciate their effort in doing all the hardwork necessary to at least give this audience a decent performance.

Whoever was chanting that stuff before the routine is an idiot. Do us all a favor and let us know their name, because I for one am sick of people two steppin around calling teams out for their stupidity. Whoever you are, you guys are weakk for chanting that stuff.

however, to use that as a reason for why the team was off during the live portion is also weak. the thing is, whenever you do live (and wasn't that recorded?), their will be issues. almost every live team i have spoken with has had at least 2 instances where the mic cut off for the singer or the dhol mic was going on and off or something like that. it is to be expected, and it is really a result of competitions giving the same amount of stage rehearsal to live and CD teams, which is a bit unfair since so much of a live team's rehearsal is spent on sound check.

And like Nikhil was suggesting, the singer did not actually seem to be singing at parts. i would suggest finding a girl or a guy who has a stronger, more aggressive voice.

but you ladies have a lot of potential and its cool to see a girls team going partially live. best of luck next time.

...to those that were chanting....

real classy move...if you had any kind of balls, you'd come on here...and man up to it...cuz I'm pretty sure many of us have our hunches...but you won't do that....thats a bit too brave of you low lifes...

so moving on...i'm definitely glad to see a girls team from the east coast especially one that can go live...with a bit more practice, I'm sure technique will improve...this routine is traditional enough to please many of the judges (sexist ones aside)....and in alll honesty, you guys could quickly become a powerhouse girls team....with NBA not having performed for awhile...and UBC girls haven't done much in awhile, with some crazy hardcore practice...watch outtt now.

East Coast on the rise.

Hey Kinnell, I completely agree with you. A performance should be judged at face value. I just wanted to clarify that the purpose of our disclaimer wasn't to give excuses for a sloppy performance. We just wanted to state that we know it was messy and that's something that can and will be changed, so feedback on all other aspects of the dance (choreo, technique, costumes, mix, formations, etc.) is much appreciated :)

Just stop making excuses and fix the dance. I, for one, agree with the chanters and would have rather seen Khalsa Junction up there, but I also don't think girls should dance bhangra to begin with. Who was in charge of this travesty, anyway?

Please refrain from using derogatory terminology, it is unprofessional and only serves to lower the standards of this forum. Clearly you have some personal issues that you need to work out on your own time.
