Team Name Origins

So im curious to know and no ones brought it up yet

how'd you guys come up with your team names?
any special meanings?
who thought of it?
reasons why?
how the ideas conceived?
names/logos that were initially rejected?

We started as Lynden Bhangra but after our first performance at a reception we changed it to Lethal Vibe. We thought of it just randomly.

Rohit and Amit from Boston founded the team and then turned it into and organization.
out logo if you look at it is two B's back to back with a turla on top of it
reason it was started was becuase both graduated from Boston and the Boston teams were all loyal to there school team. so they created an team that covered all of Boston and gave a chance to other team dancers to join and make an Elite team with the best dancers from different Boston teams.

We just sat for a day and went through pages of acronyms we could come up with then came to PANJ and my babhi actually came up with the Pechaan Apni Nachdi Jandi part of it ahaha. Originally we were called 'Bhangra Inc' for the first 6months or so

We were sitting around during our first ever practice trying to think of a good name for our team. After a while discussing our past experiences on our previous teams, one of the guys just yelled it out..."United!"

We all came from other bhangra teams and we were all good friends for many many years...we had talked about it for almost a year prior at Boston Bhangra & Bruin Bhangra when we saw each other. We wanted to get the best of the best male dancers from the lower mainland united onto one team that wasn't affiliated with any organization.

logo we wanted something simple, yet recognizable and bold so came up with the concept of the 'U' for our team shirts.

Before "ASD" we were DBP - Dearborn Bhangra Paarty (all-girl and local performances only) then boys came and laughed at it loll
It was too cutesy

Wanted to use the Panda (as it would surely attract females) as our logo...but wanted a name that also described the "havoc" we were about to unleash...thus came NYU Pandemonium.

We basically named our teams by our affiliation with our university. We are known as George Mason Patriots, so we decided to just name the team Patriot Bhangra. chyeaaaaa. On the other hand, Joshiley Jawan just sounded solid. We are jawan mundey in that team with josh to do bhangra haha.

Yeah similar to Jap. Originally called Case Western Bhangra. The original team had competed in the first two Bhangra Fusions and hit up Blowout once as well (back in 2001). When I got to Case my freshmen year, there was no competitive team and there was a need for a new style and new flavour. Our school mascot is the SPARTANS. After the movie 300, the name was golden.

haha we used to be known as sitare punjab de back in the day...this was b4 i was a freshman at michigan state. the only name ive know tho has been the plain n simple MSU bhangra....

we still use the 300 theme here n there

I felt like sticking to the school tradition was important. And Patriot works for bhangra as well....half the bolis include references to patriots of punjab.

Yeah, as was I... But in the end, no one had touched the name (did extensive google searches and called up a few Michigan friends) and our school, despite being small, were also the Spartans.

And Pooja, thanks for clarifying. I was always curious how you guys came up with that unique name.
