i could watch 8-10 live teams any time. Wait a minute, I have! (In India) and it was one of the most entertaining competitions i've ever been to.
whos with me?
Great... thats exactly what I said about a week ago... Live belongs in India where there is an audience that appreciates it a lot more than they do here... I've seen the live videos from India, and they are vastly superior to the live performances we see out here... I still find those pretty boring, but yea I agree, they're definitely more entertaining out there...

Not true at all. Just because you don't like live bhangra, doesn't mean that the rest of the people outside of India don't either. Stop pointing fingers at others when you have no substance in your own posts, and can't back em up. There are more traditional competitions in the states now, than there are so called "modern" comps. Only few that still exist are bruin, fusion, boston, etc. I can name a whole lot more traditional comps. And having organized DDA for the last 4 years, I can tell you how many people around the bay area have told me that the judges finally got it right last year (when TEB a live team won, heeray got 2nd). And this includes people of all ages, and not just "bhangra heads." So the audience in the US definitely does appreciate live bhangra.

And live teams in North America are pretty much on par with teams in India. But what would you know, since you think live bhangra's boring...

At the end of the day, there's only one way of doing bhangra... there's no such thing as modern bhangra. That's an oxymoron. The stuff that you like.. its fusion, not bhangra.

I agree with Vick, watching 8-10 live teams is boring, especially when a bunch of them aren't as good as the others (masti 3)

You lost all credibility with that line... Live teams in India are far better... Next...

how is "modern bhangra" an oxymoron? there is nothing self-contradictory about a style of dance evolving over time.

I have no reason to try to convince you otherwise, but I can name a bunch that are just as good as Lyallpur, Sadhar, etc. Here are some that I could think of the top of my head: Heeray, Rooh Punjab Dee, Nachde Shokeen, Gabroo Shokeen, Nachdi, Rhythm boyz (when active).

Where are all those people that cried foul when I said the teams in the NA were just as good as the teams in India? When it comes to "music from a cd" bhangra, I've always said NA was on par with India... But from what I have seen with live bhangra out here, I'm not impressed... I think India still does it better...

Top 3 (no particular order) teams that come to MY mind...

KJ: Saw them on the Zeetv Bhangra Competition and was in complete awe.....Bhangra love started here for me and almost everyone i know!

GS: Saw them live at Bulldog 06...then the Giant 07 performance, and fell in love with live Bhangra...so graceful and amazing Nakhre...just FOLK!

NJ: Have seen almost all of their performances EVER. Some live, some on youtube, and each time, I'm absolutely amazed! Got a chance to visit a 2 of their 6 total academies, and there is just so much talent...from the very young to aunties & uncles learning Bhangra....wish that attitude n love for Bhangra existed in our lil town! =)

vick from all these years im sure u hv learnt alot ... why dont u come up wid ur best defined bhangra set... i would really like to see it... now dun come up wid tht exaggerated excuse tht u hv life beyond bhangra... b/c u r on d top list who has most posts.. u def hv plenty of time.

plus i understand u hv been so called "audience" since some time... but u being so stubborn about proper bhangra sort of shows tht u really need to experience urself as a dancer, so u actually understand atleast some basic aspects of it.

I can't think of any trad comp in the states other then dda and wth is proper bhangra?? Considering there's like 20 definitions to bhangra on this forum (I exaggerated the 20, dnt hate lol)

and what's wrong if some1 thinks live is boring, it's their personal preference, just like how ppl hate on "modern" bhangra, it's personal preference

Proper Bhangra is Bhangra done properly with grace, right posture, proper and full execution of moves, shoulder movements when required and doing a particular step the right way or you can say doing bhangra without made up or fusion type of moves. I know that majority of the teams(including mine) is guilty of incorporating made up/fusion type of bhangra steps into their sets, but when the majority of steps in your set aren't really actual bhangra steps than that shouldn't be considered actual bhangra but rather something in the terms of Bollwood fusion/bhangra or whatever you want to call it. These are just my "personal opinions" and im pretty sure majority of the people who actually know and understand Bhangra the way it should be, would agree with me. Whenever i refer to "modern bhangra" i really mean to say bollywood fusion/bhangra. If you really think about it, the term modern bhangra should be used to describe teams such as SGPD, VCU and Nachdi Jawani that take folk elements of Bhangra and present it in exciting and entertaining manner yet they suceed to stay to the roots of Bhangra via their execution, grace, body posture and proper execution of moves.

"proper" bhangra, like everything else in the dimension of time, is vulnerable to evolution. proper shouldn't be confused with traditional.
