Teams That Revolutionized Bhangra

We all have our own opinion on what bhangra is and have our own preference on how we want to showcase it, I just dnt understand y there's this on goin battle lol no matter how u do bhangra we all do it cause we love to and ppl watch it cause they enjoy it, y can't it just be left at that w.o having to bash one another and taking shots at each other??

i think its only after so called "evolution" tht a bhangra performance today incorporates different forms of dances into one performance - sammi jhummer bhangra etc etc etc...while they wer separate dances on its own... n ofcourse u can define proper bhangra as of today... the ustaads that teach those teams in punjab have a very good experience behind them... u can add variations to ur steps, formations, etc... but if u arent even incorporating those folk elements.. how is tht bhangra performance..? next thing u wnna say is dont where paghs, kurta, chaadra,... cuz its goin thru "evolution". i wud say proper bhangra is the actual traditional one.. which is done on dhol...

Not many in our generation actually know what "proper" bhangra is. Based on research done in this area (e.g. Govind for example), I know that people of our grandparents' generation see bhangra in a VERY different light. And I'm sure our grandparents' grandparents saw bhangra in an even different light.
Are you actually saying bhangra from the 1600s in the villages is the same as bhangra in the villages & cities today in Punjab? Also, bhangra has obviously been passed down through both oral tradition and teaching the next generation, all of which will definitely be affected by variations.
I'd go as far to argue nobody really knows what "true" bhangra is, as it's all a matter of when we benchmark the foundation of bhangra as established. So the best our generation can do is benchmark "true bhangra" off of what our grandparents teach us and the variations they learnt.
